Update On Tranquillo Barnetta – He’s Injured

We have been alerted by one of our readers – Hate Prawn Sandwiches (what a name!) – that supposed Newcastle target Tranquillo Barnetta was injured earlier this week and is now out for some time.

Tranquillo Barnetta – injured earlier in the week

It was a Sky Sports story that we reported but three days ago it was also reported the player has a torn medial meniscus in his knee.

The Swiss attacking midfielder hurt his right knee in a match against second division league team VfL Bochum last Tuesday.

And Barnetta was diagnosed with a torn medial meniscus by the team doctor Dr. Achim Münster and will now need surgery.

Barnetta of course was hardly happy about the injury:

“Of course it is upsetting but I can’t change it. After my surgery I will do my best to get back to the team as soon as possible,”

To give Sky Sports some slack,  it could be that Newcastle were after the player before he was injured four days ago.

But since his contract runs out in 18 months, then  if Newcastle are indeed interested, they could go back for the player in the summer.

And they would have to pay even less for him, since his contract at that time will have just one year to run.

Comments welcome.

superb player and is worth buying now, we signed HBA permanently whilst injured, same with Gosling, would love to see us sign this fella, Krancjar and Santos. We’d be sorted. Striker in the Summer and we’d have a superb team/squad.
