Danny Guthrie Did Himself A Power Of Good On Saturday

We’ve been a little worried about 23 year-old Danny Guthrie this season, since he hasn’t been in the first team too much.

Danny Guthrie up against Steven Pienaar on Saturday

But in the last two games, Danny has been brought back in from the cold, and put in two excellent performances for Newcastle.

He came on in the first half for Alan Smith against Sunderland, and while we were a little worried about how he would do – he did just great.

And then on Saturday he had an excellent game before succumbing to cramp,   in a game that was played at a fierce pace.

Alan Pardew has been simply delighted with the form Danny has shown over the last couple of games, as he said today:

“He gave everything.” “He was up against world-class players, and did a great job.” “I think he’s just got cramp.”

Danny has put himself right back in the picture on Tyneside, and he’s such a good lad, like so many of our current Newcastle crop of players.

We are a little concerned about Dan Gosling though, and he may be out for a week or two, or even longer, since his bad knee swelled up after playing three times in a week, which in retrospect was too much.

We’re not even sure if Gosling made the trip to Portugal yesterday.

Comments welcome.

i know Guthrie make mistake but i would stick with him IF we were to compare with Alan Smith

    Younger than Smith

Can pass the ball than Smith

He can play like xabi alonso (give him time guys…he will)

    Am i missing something????

He can’t move! He can’t pass!

Why was he not shoved on the right (where he can do less damage to us) and have barton in the middle?

    Wake up NUFC fans…

Do you all need any other proof to believe our squad is strong enough?

Do we need another player after our youngster already in the making?

Give our lads time to improve and they will pay us with glory, i trust them after watch they in Championship, and what i really like obout us today is we don’t have Owen, Duff, or primadona…

To me, in this transfers window if we don’t sign any player, i really happy.

yeah i believe for title contention, europa contention, to stay up.

Our NUFC is in the making, if not why need to buy Ben arfa, yven moyo, raise Carroll wage. Give them time.

Hahah, Im sorry Rashid but at the minute our squad isnt strong enough to do any of those things.

We simply dont have enough quality in depth. We rely too heavily on players like Enrique, Barton, Nolan and Carroll.

Without serious competion for those places we have to play them lads to death.

If we stack up alot of injuries to the first team at some point during the season, we won’t have players good enough to come through into the team and do the same job.

Show some faith in and respect to our players, and especially the players who stayed with us during CCC. Newcastle need time as club to build up a good team.

If anyone would have said to me last year at this time of the year that we would be in 8th place after 23 rounds in PL. I would ask if you were having a laugh.

It is the TEAM spirit that have led us this far, and many of the players have improved tremendously during this period. I would like additional players over time. If we were to sign a new player this window I would say the most critical area is a forward to play along with Carroll.

Sorry Ed. disagree on this one, he`s one of the squad we should be moving out like Routledge.
They have had enough opportunities to prove themselves , but inconsistency is the problem.
That`s how teams are built, by selling the ordinary and replacing with quality.

if you base your opinion on the strenght of our current squad, we are not going to talk about Europe. But as the other teams, those big guns with BIG players and those wannabe’s countinue to do us favour by playing worse than us, why not? we could have been higher in the table if we didn’t have those poor performance against the “lesser” teams, may i add during CH reigns!
Is the word “Positive” absent from the Geordie’s dictionary? it doesn’t harm to dream. Aim for the star, at least you might shoot the moon! Aim for the tree, you really might just get in the drain again!

i think many on here stopped watching us when in the ccc as guthrie was immense, he passed the ball well, scored a few and did some fantastic link up play aswell as good free kicks. he is young and will improve and has just come back from a bad injury so will be short on match fitness and confidence.

it is because of constantly changing our playing staff that we got in a mess under fs and we were left with a bunch of mercenaries as any of the average players who lost form where shipped out and replaced by high cost crap players

That was in the Championship, lewman. I still think Guthrie could be a good talen, but he needs further development. Until then he’s a good squad player.

John – If it’s true, it’s his money. He can do what he likes with it.

im just home from newcastle there with 12 lads to see the match and have never been more embarrassed, the squad we have is simply not good enough, imagine flying over to see shola and leon….no quality what so ever, we have to many passengers in our team!!, joey colo harper simpson nolan only players worth their salt!

Eh, not sure if anyone noticed but it was Guthrie who picked out Collo for that one hell of a goal against Spurs… Who was it who said he couldn’t pass?

Granted he’s probably not first team material, especially with Nolan, Barton, Tiote in the squad. But he definitely comes in handy when those guys are injured/suspended. Case in point – Sunderland and Tottenham.

I suppose the point is moot that no one rates Smith higher than Guthrie right?

He’s come into a derby game and against a top 5 team and done very well.

He’s a young player that’s done all that’s been asked of him.

He was really good last season when he got a run in the team.

I’m pleased he’s in our squad.
    Well done Danny.

I cant believe some of the people who have commented on this! We have had our squad stretched thread bare with all the “top players” out for some reason or another. Guthrie did brilliantly and on his day is a top class player, many times have I seen his class but unfortunately it would appear a lot of you are glass half empt kinda guys who remember days like WBA where he had a shocker. Sorry like but not one player in the entire world is 100% consistent. If Guthrie plays the way he did against sunderland and spurs 75% of the time Im a happy man. We arent barcelona or manure or shiteh, we should support who play for us and LIKE to play for us. Love to see any of you pessimists do better!

although I don’t want to belittle perch as I feel he needs time to become settled in the premier league, I felt it was the introduction of perch that cost us 2 points, and that’s all pardew’s fault, the bloke’s clueless, he should introduce perch in his own position, i.e. defence, and against more inferior teams than Tottenham, for the 2nd week running parderw cost us 2 points.

who else was Pardew going to replace Guthrie with? there was only perch who could have played that position, and with Spurs gaining momentum and taking over the midfield he needed someone to go straight into there and battle. Trust me, I seriously don’t enjoy watching Perch, but Pardew had no other choice..
