Pardew In Praise Of Harper And Newcastle Team Spirit

Since Steve Harper returned in the Newcastle goal at Wigan earlier this year, he’s looked good and safe as usual.

Steve Harper – in action against Tottenham Hotspur

The only mistake Steve made, which cost Newcastle is that 94th minute goal at Sunderland.

But Steve and Newcastle just had no luck at all with that, and it was just unfortunate and one of those things – we all have to get over it – at some point.

Newcastle manager Pardew picked out Steve Harper for praise, after he had a good game, and made three great saves that kept Newcastle in the match.

This is what Alan Pardew said today about Steve:

“Steve made three vital saves and it could have been a different game for us.”

“If they had got the first goal it could have given us problems because they do keep the ball so well.”

“Those saves were crucial and it was a very good performance from him.”

“I am really proud of the spirit we have, staff and players all pulling in the same direction.”

“On paper we should have got beat if I’m honest and we are standing here disappointed we got a draw.”

“So they must have played above themselves and as a manager that is what you want.”

Of course Alan has Chris Hughton to thank for that team spirit, and also the senior players for help putting the club back together when Newcastle seemed on its last knees just a short 18 months ago.

But now Alan’s job is to press on from what Chris left,  organize the lads more, like he seems to have done with the defense,. and get some class players in during January if possible, and then during the summer.

If he can do that, and keep the good players on board that we already have, which he seems to be doing, then Newcastle could even have a bright future ahead of them in the next couple of seasons.

Wouldn’t;t that be something!

What do you think?

What’s happened to crazycoosy? His updates from the hotel seem to have stopped completely.

Someone mentioned he had a twitter account – anyone know his username?

Hoping for some kind of indication we’re actually serious about signing someone this window rather than just talking about it.

never rated harper before this particular part of the season, always, for years whilst everyone was saying he should get called up for england could never see it. He was very indecisive in the past and has been known for it…. Having said that he definitely brings stability to the back that Krul, unfortunately, does not and has made a number of amazing saves recently. I just hope he can keep on like this as hes doing brilliantly at the mo

Did anyone notice if David Bentley played over the weekend? Just wondering if he managed to get a game, and that we had another lucky escape by not signing him……

Ameobi to Brum? No, let them get relegated without him.

Just saw that too howay man!

Great news. I truly think getting rid of Ameobi would herald a fresh start to NUFC. We have a great team core of players I’d love to see playing for us for the future. I’d hate to lose Collo, Barton and Jose so we eed to tie them up with new contracts. We have Andy, Ben Arfa, Will, Taylor all around for five years. Getting rid of Ameobi will allow Best and Loven to compete directly to be Andy’s partner.

How bout Xisco….where is his agent when you need him? Surely he is due a move hehe

OMG please Brum, take him [Shola]!!!

Not a bright move unless we’ve got someone who can replace or improve on him.

Why must there always be a whipping boy? If Shola goes, who’s next to be the target for derision?

If Shola went, it would be with my best wishes and thanks for his efforts. He may be inconsistent, but he’s bailed us out plenty of times and I for one wouldn’t be without him.

Hmmm, I’m not sure about losing Shola – Davies is right, he’s scored so many important goals….Did you know he is the 2nd highest scoring player EVER in the tyne/wear derby? The only player to score more than him is Jackie Milburn!

Plus, can you imagine him playing for another team? It’d be too weird, like looking at your mate’s missus…Even if she is really fit, it’s just plain wrong!

never beeen a fan of donkey (strolla) but after watching the game again today against spuds i thought e was actually very good..his hold up play was as good a i ever seen = his final ball let him down but i still think he is a glorified version of Zamora……..and let me finish to the tune of its amore:

if the ball hits your head and you sit in row Z
    thats zamoraaaaaaaaaa
