Since Steve Harper returned in the Newcastle goal at Wigan earlier this year, he’s looked good and safe as usual.
Steve Harper – in action against Tottenham Hotspur
The only mistake Steve made, which cost Newcastle is that 94th minute goal at Sunderland.
But Steve and Newcastle just had no luck at all with that, and it was just unfortunate and one of those things – we all have to get over it – at some point.
Newcastle manager Pardew picked out Steve Harper for praise, after he had a good game, and made three great saves that kept Newcastle in the match.
This is what Alan Pardew said today about Steve:
“Steve made three vital saves and it could have been a different game for us.”
“If they had got the first goal it could have given us problems because they do keep the ball so well.”
“Those saves were crucial and it was a very good performance from him.”
“I am really proud of the spirit we have, staff and players all pulling in the same direction.”
“On paper we should have got beat if I’m honest and we are standing here disappointed we got a draw.”
“So they must have played above themselves and as a manager that is what you want.”
Of course Alan has Chris Hughton to thank for that team spirit, and also the senior players for help putting the club back together when Newcastle seemed on its last knees just a short 18 months ago.
But now Alan’s job is to press on from what Chris left, organize the lads more, like he seems to have done with the defense,. and get some class players in during January if possible, and then during the summer.
If he can do that, and keep the good players on board that we already have, which he seems to be doing, then Newcastle could even have a bright future ahead of them in the next couple of seasons.
Wouldn’t;t that be something!
