An excellent interview in the Evening Chronicle today with Jonas Gutierrez, where he talks about both himself and Argentine compatriot Fabricio Coloccini wanting to stay at Newcastle.
Jonas Gutierrez – in action against you know who recently
Alan Pardew seems to be doing an excellent job on securing the best players to new extended contracts on Tyneside, and Jonas today has quickly said the two Argentines want to stay at the Tyneside club.
With Joey Barton the latest to be close to signing a new contract to stay on Tyneside for another five years, one would expect Jose Enrique to be the next in line to get both an extended and improved contract.
The Spaniard has been so good for Newcatsle over these last two seasons, that’s the least he deserves.
And after those deals are done and dusted, new improved contracts for both Andy Carroll and Cheick Tiote would seem very likely.
Jonas talked about the fact that he and his compatriot Fab Coloccini want to stay at the famous Newcastle club:
“We both want to stay.” “The club are focusing on what they want to do and that is to make a good team.” “Now we are having problems with injuries and this league is tough.”
“We have had control of the last two matches.” “The only mistakes we have made is that we have conceded in the last minute.”
“I think we need to learn to hold on to the ball and get the ball in the spaces away from goal.” “It has been tough, we played on December 26 and 28.”
“Every team has to do that, but in the first year I was here we were able to change some players around and rest.” “This time we had to play the same team for two games running.”
“It hasn’t been about skills, it has been about fatigue and condition.”
We have to hope that Jonas is coming into some of his best form of the season, and of course it’s always good to hear players saying they want to stay at the cub.
Something good must be happening at Newcastle these days – that’s for sure.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Yep both would be good players to keep hold of…hopefully and more importantly it might persuade Enrique to sign up for a bit longer as well…you keep hearing whispers that Ferguson is sniffing around Enrique as he offers good value in the current transfer market, if we extended his contract it might put Sir Red Nose of the scent!

Comment #3I think we need another top quality CB to compliment Colo. I think that both Taylor and Williamson are good they are only going to take the club so far forward. If Ashley wants to show his ambition i think another top CB should be a priority. Also @John Simpson is doing a great job this season for us since returning from injury! Bar that mistake against Spurs i can’t remember him putting a foot wrong. Didn’t think he would be up to the challenge this year but he has proved me totally wrong! 10000000 x better than Perch

Comment #4I do like Jonas but it’s undeniable that he has had a poor season. He works just as hard but there’s no end result. Opponents have worked out that if they stop him and Enrique from combining they cut off our best supply line to AC and his replacements. So we now see double marking on our left hand side. Colo is genius.

Comment #6Don’t need a CB with S Taylor & Colo with Williamson & Kadar as back up. We do need a LB a RW & a creative MF

Not at all.
If you had said;
“Is it gat if I say I want to f&ck them both in the bottom”
Then the answer would be ‘yes’.

Comment #9We don’t need a RW, Jonas is a RW. We need a left wing so Jonas can play right.

Comment #10why would we want carrol to sign a new deal we just signed him on a new 5 year deal and he has admitted he doesnt want to leave so there would be no point in giving him a new one
tiote shud get one colo and jonas but b4 them enrique defo has to be secured i think he could become the best lb in the world he is already best in the league in my opinion

Comment #11Not a bad team when all fit and well:
Home:—————-Harper————————-
——–Saylor——Williamson—–Coloccini——-
Gutierrez—Barton—Ben Arfa—Tiote—-Enrique
——————-Nolan——Carroll—————–
Away:—————-Harper————————–
Simpson—–Taylor——–Coloccini——Enrique
Gutierrez—–Barton——–Tiote———Ben Arfa
————————Nolan—————————
———————–Carroll—————————
Squad Members: Forster, Krul, Kadar, Gosling, Guthrie, LuaLua, Ferguson, Vuckic, Ranger & Best.
Looking at the squad I would suggest we require.
1. A striker to work in the hole.
2. A winger, however Ferguson and LuaLua are as good as Larsson if we sign him, they must be given a chance.
3. Give our good youngsters a go, if we are winning games by a couple of goals with 15 mins left. get 1 or 2 on.
4. Ireland if signed will act as cover for Tiote and Barton, and would fit well into a 5 man midfield however he wouldnt get into a 4 man midfield at present.
5. Jonas has to be kept out on the left, played there for his previous team and the second half against Spurs he flourished. it would be like signing a new player.

Comment #13ireland wouldnt be good as cover for tiote because they are two completely different players Ireland is not a defensive mid his best position is behind the striker to put him as a def mid would waste all his creativity

Comment #16cant wait until ben arfa is back so we can put jonas on the right again. when jonas moved to the right side agains tottenham he showed that he infact have a good end product with 2-3 great crosses woth his right foot. Best should have scored on one of them, but managed to put the header wide from 5 meters out.. ben arfa on the left and jonas on the right is going to be deadly!

Comment #17I think that Ben Arfa would be better used just behind the striker. So would probably keep Barton out right as his crossing is deadly on Jonas on the left as he strikes fear into players when running at them and his link up play is quality!

Comment #18Andy, I think Jonas is predictable on the Left, when was the last time he delivered a quality cross from the left. he delivered a minimum of 3 from the Right against the Spurs in only 45 mins of play.

Comment #19I agree that he is better on the right but I don’t think that Ben Arfa has the work rate of Jonas who fills in for Bull time and time again. The couple of games Ben Arfa did play, Everton and Stoke Bull didn’t really look to confident coming forward and was somewhat limited. I think his overlapping and attacking is one of our main strengths so i would keep Jonas on the left

Agreed…..Someone actually wrote that he couldn’t keep the ball, before Tiote he was the only one who would hang on to the ball to relieve pressure…..
