Newcastle Reported After Argentine Winger

Newcastle are reported to be interested Pablo Daniel Piatti, a 21 year-old Argentine winger who currently plays at UD Almería in the Spanish La Liga.

Pablo Daniel Piatti – 21 year-old Argentine winger

First of all we should say we have no idea if these reports are true or not, but at least he seems around the right age.

The reports suggest Newcastle may be keen on the 5’4″ left winger, who can also play as a second striker, and the Tyneside club may even make a bid for the player within the next week, before the January transfer window closes.

Newcastle already have Coloccini and Gutierrez at the Newcastle club, so the youngster could settle in easily with the two experienced Argentine Internationals already on Tyneside.

Almeria will not allow Piatti to go cheaply, but the third bottom side in the Spanish First division, would surely jump at the chance of a reasonable fee from the famous Newcastle United club.

The player started his career at Estudiantes in 2006,  and in two years there he made over 60 appearances for the Argentine club, based in La Plata, and scored around 16 goals.

In 2008 Piatti was sold to UD Almería in Spain., and so far has played over 80 times for the Spanish club, with around 20 goals.

It’s hard to gauge just how good this La Carlota born player is, but in 2007 he was in the Argentine U20 squad that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

In the final Argentina beat the Czech Republic 2-1, and had players in the team such as Angel DiMaria, now playing at Real Madrid, and Sergio Agüero, now at Atletico Madrid.

What do you think?

‘it is hard to gauge how good this player is’

How? Do you mean you’ve never watched him play?

He’s top notch, im amazed a more successful club hasnt come in for him yet.

For his age he is fantastic, the only problem is his size, I doubt a 5ft4inch player could really hack it over here, but I’d love to be proved wrong.

Also Ed, at which point of his career did he have a face transplant and play for Barcelona? Like in the photo….

I’d take him and Legear over most of the people we’re attached to. We’ll get them on cheaper wages than most EPL players, and, if need be, sell them for profit a few years down the line.

Could be a good replacement for roughtledge and give Nolan and Ben Arfa some back up playing behind the striker

Ed,tht looks like Barca’s Maxwell in the pic u put up… I wud b very sutprised if we interested in Piatti but I think he’s Almeria’s captain, good player, don’t be deceived by his small stature,he’s tenacious, good pace and leftfooted.A natural winger.Maybe Graham Carr is working his magic again. But do we need a LEFTFOOTED winger with HBA coming back?

Yes because then HBA can be moved into the centre – where he prefers playing.

Would prefer this lad over most of our links tbh.

Yeah he hasnt played for barca so thats not him in the piccy.. very good player seen him play on either wing and with his pace doesnt seem to have problems with it .. if there is a chance they are willing to sell would be worth the risk great young player i saw article on sky sports scout saying value now to be around 7-8 mil and potenital value 25 mil so sounds promising

One final thing this boy is a ‘Whizz Kid’ on Footie Manager so he must be good right!!

He plays on the all attacking positions for Almeria. He has played on the left, on the right and in the center. The last game where he scored 2 goals against Sevilla he was playing on the right and cutting inside like Adam Johnson.

He seems versatile enough but I’m not sold on if a tiny man like Piatti can hold up to a physically challenging league like the EPL. He might be better off in La Liga.

To be fair hk_nufc he is 5’4 and that is v barca n maxwell one of the better fullbacks around

Never heard of him myself so il reserve judgement n if we sign him see wat he can do for us

Whitecap- to be fair I’m sure he can’t be any smaller or lightweight than Silva and he has settled in nicely at City. To be honest, of all the links I have seen in the papers since the window has opened, this one actually excites me. Here’s hoping there is some truth to the story.

he ll be a decent goal threat… will win a lot of free kicks coz he’s little… only 5’4″. Seb may be better coz he has abt 2-3 yrs of prem league experience.

Too tiny in size to play in the premier league I reckon

Just look at Routledge, got bullied off the ball so easily by every taller/stronger defenders, even though he has bags of pace

You have to think someone is coming in on that right side with Wayne off to QPR. If we dont we still have options but with injuries we could struggle. That being said I think our first team in a month or two may be

    ………………….Harper
    Simps….Will…Collo….Enrique
    Jonas….Barton….Tiote…Ben Arfa
    ………………Nolan
    …………………..Carroll

I think/hope Jonas and Ben Arfa can switch around nicely on the wings. Jonas played well on the right and I understand Ben Arfa prefers the left. That being said we know he likes to cut in so we should get another out and out winger.

With Gosling and Guthrie coming through and a lot of players on long contracts we dont need a great deal. A good R winger would allow us freedom to choose between them Jonas, Hatem and Barton. A new striker and rid of Amoebi and Xisco and we are looking good. Oh and a left back. So three players and we are doing much better.

Piatti seems a better prospect than Ireland.
Why didnt we go for Ryan Babel??? Plays on both wings and as a second striker? May have been a good shout!

I cant see this piattie arriving, in fact I cant see anyone arriving. I think Jonas is earmarked for Right wing and HBA left.

That will hack off HBA as he believed he was signiong for a more central role.

Spose its just a case of wait and see!

Be surprised if we bring anyone in now though !

No point signing players just for the sake of making a signing.

I would understand if we made none and made it to the end of the season without being relegated and then having more money to build a team….

Saying that however, we NEED a striker so we need to sign someone in my opinion….whether this is the lad i dunno, but as cover for Jonas it sounds exciting….he looks quite the prospect but i just very much doubt we will go for him…

Heard of him but never seen him (until I watched the video)

Looks quite fast and skillfull, eye for goal (for a winger) looks like he gets fouled alot (which is good, coz we are decent with set pieces)

Reckon would be a good signing, only problem is fitting him in. Would be good just playing off Carroll or as back up to Jonas (eventually would succeed him if he settled in quickly)

Another day, another rumour… I would say I hate the transfer window but it’s keeping me enternained whilst at work ha!
