It’s Cold, Wet And Windy In Faro, Portugal

1:46 pm, Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 by Ed Harrison · 56 Comments

Well would you believe it’s  been wet and windy in Portugal,  since the lads have been out there for some conditioning work – and we cannot really call it a sunshine break now.

From what we can tell – the weather is not great in Portugal

The main reason the squad is out there is get some good practice in, morning and afternoon, with the training grounds at Benton being too hard and frozen to do much practice there.

And Alan is putting the squad through some hard conditioning work, in case fitness was the reason the lads conceded injury time goals in each of their last two league games, which cost Newcastle a valuable 4 points.

Its seems that Pardew has been pleased with what they have been able to achieve out there in the Iberian Peninsula:

“It’s going well – it’s wet and windy rather than sunshine, but we’ve got some good work done,”

“It was never a sunshine break. It was a conditioning week to make sure we are ready for the second half of the season.”

“And it was about regrouping too – looking at what we did well, what we can do better.”

It looks like it’s raining in Faro, Portugal today, where the lads are, and only in the high 50s Fahrenheit – not too warm at all.

Over here in Raleigh. NC it’s 8:45 am in the morning and 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Here’s the weather forecast for Faro, Portugal for the next few days – no sun to be seen until next Monday – and they’ll be back in Newcastle by then.

Oh well – the lads will get some good training in which is why they went – but no sun tans!

Comments welcome.

Note – we still use Fahrenheit in the US – for conversion purposes – 60 degrees Fahrenheit is around 15.6 degrees Celsius.

    GAZ09

Don’t forget Fulham’s playing tis sunday in the FA Cup. On paper, they should be fatigued while we’re well rested, but it’ll be a tough game.

  • 13 Lyons // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:18 PM

Whats all this claptrap about Adam johnson to NUFC, is this off the back of the stories of a NE club spending big? urrmmm Mackems sessegnon ?

  • 14 GAZ09 // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:18 PM

Lyons, you have to wear a magnolia outfit!!
    No pastel colours etc etc…..

  • 22 GAZ09 // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:23 PM

My guess is SWP or Ireland as a loan player and as for players we want to buy its either Lallana, Gradel, Barnetta or Tarrabat

  • 23 The Leazus End // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:23 PM

i would take milner back aswell

  • 24 Thump // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:24 PM

15c in Portugal according to that site.

What’s wrong with that? Ideal temperature imo – even better football temperature!

where has the adam johnson bull come from does anyone know

  • 27 kentonmags // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:30 PM

The Leazus various website apparently mate its on football rumors site aswell

  • 28 singamagpie // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:32 PM

Kranjcar from what I’ve read do no want to play on the right, he prefers the left. Don’t think he’ll be coming here.

SWP prefers Bolton and won’t be going to Fulham after they have signed Kakuta.

Taabart and Gradel is not for sale. Personally don’t like them too.

I think Ireland’s the only person we’re targeting.

  • 29 Cockney Magpie // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:34 PM

are we really considering Forlan? we be amazing if we was but surely his wages would be to high for us? unless at the age of 31 he is willing to take quite a bit of a cut?

    lol Forlan? No chance.

  • 33 lesh // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:39 PM

Aye Thump, I’d rather have 50F in Faro than the 44 or so we’re ‘enjoyin’ here on the English south coast!

  • 34 Stuart // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:43 PM

    Haha Forlan?

Spurs have already said they cant afford his wages. How the f**k are we going to? lol.

  • 35 The Leazus End // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:43 PM

    @ Thump // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:37 PM

you got to laugh at some rumours on here lol

  • 36 The Leazus End // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:44 PM

we could always offer them shola lol

  • 37 Thump // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:56 PM

That’s an offer they simply can’t refuse, Leazus :D

  • 38 The Leazus End // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:11 PM

tell you what if they give us 50p we throw smith into the mix aswell

  • 39 mushy // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:16 PM

    to singamagpie (and others):

I’ve seen a lot of Taarabt of late. He’s greedy, petulant, unpredictable, unreliable…… and brilliant. The same mold as Marsh, Bowles, Jim Smith and Gazza. He would be worshipped at the Toon.

  • 40 GeordieGerman // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:18 PM

Suppose the advantage of them training in Fargo is that there is no frost in the morning when they start training.

Oh wait a minute. By the time they start training the frost is gone anyway.

  • 41 GeordieGerman // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:20 PM

Nah Leazus, they’ll want the 50p from us.

  • 42 The Leazus End // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:25 PM

    @ mushy // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:16 PM

he sure aint coming to newcastle united thats for sure, there manager has made that clear. like pardew said carol isnt leaving the toon.
would love to see barnetta here

  • 43 stuckdownsouth // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:28 PM

Leazus, I don’t think clubs want to wait to the last minute but agents and selling clubs are more likely to do deal at the 11th hour or the player will be stuck where he is. Like the prices dropping on Xmas eve…..but what do I know!

  • 44 mushy // Jan 26, 2011 at 4:33 PM

    @LeazesEnd:
Sadly, i forced to agree with you (Taarabt not coming to Newcastle).

What’s this I read from that Guillem Ballague that we have been chasing Jose Angel (21 year old left back) from Sporting Gijon?

    Any info anybody?

  • 47 andyroo // Jan 26, 2011 at 5:34 PM

to be fair a dont no why evry 1 is bamnging o n about transfers?? te lads we have at the minute are a good bunch and a dont think there is many midfielders round that could walk straight into our team if. we should look for a striker to play off andy carroll!! like shearer bellamy partership. cumon alan pardew get the ball rolling and f***ng sign us a goal machine

  • 48 Thump // Jan 26, 2011 at 5:39 PM
