Alan Pardew has said today that 23 year-old Danny Guthrie is fit and will be ready for the important league game at Fulham on Wednesday evening.
Danny Guthrie – raring to go on Wednesday night at Fulham
We had been getting a little worried about Danny, since he hasn’t been in the Newcastle first team much at this season, but he did a great job when he came on for the injured Alan Smith against Sunderland, and again he had a good game against top side Tottenham in our last game.
And the former Liverpool midfielder was thought to be an injury doubt following that 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, when he hobbled off in the second half.
But Danny was simply suffering from cramp, and as a precaution Guthrie did not participate in the training camp in Portugal, as he rested up with a few of the other Newcastle players.
Captain Kevin Nolan also sustained an ankle knock, but the Newcastle leader will be in the side for the important Fulham game on Wednesday.
Pardew told the local Evening Chronicle today:
“Danny will be fine for Fulham. He did not train, but he’s OK.”
“Kevin had an ankle knock and also didn’t train, but he will fine too for Fulham.”
It would be just great if Newcastle can get all three points on Wednesday night, because it still hurts that the lads gave away those 4 points in the last two game – and yes we’ll get over it some time – maybe in a year or two. 😀
Fulham play Spurs in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow afternoon in a game that kicks off at 4:00 pm, so that could give Newcastle an advantage on Wednesday, since it’s a short three days later.
Pardew talked about Portugal – where the weather was damp and miserable – and you thought it was bad in Newcastle.
This is what Alan said today:
“The weather out there in Portugal was pretty damp and miserable.”
“But at least we had the chance to get some solid training done on grass and I caught up with a few of the players.”
”We also rested a couple of the lads.” “We came back together as a group and, in terms of fitness and football, it’s looking good, it was worthwhile to go.”
“Now we are just focused on Fulham.”
when he had some of his best games for Newcastle.
Newcastle need to push on this season, and finish as high as they can, because for one thing that will persuade good players to join the club this summer.
