Stephen Ireland To Have Medical At Newcastle

Sky Sports is reporting that 24 year-old Stephen Ireland is to have a medical at Newcastle United.

Stephen Ireland – SSN reports he is to have medical

The news is that Sky Sports understand that a loan deal may now have been finally worked out between Aston Villa and Newcastle United, and the next step is for Stephen Ireland to have a medical at the famous Newcastle club.

The deal had been delayed by a disagreement between the two clubs, on  how much Newcastle would pay of the player’s massive £65K/week wages, but the news is that Stephen will now travel to St. Jame’s Park to undergo his medical.

It seems the medical will take place this evening, and that should clear the way for the loan deal to be finalized  some time tomorrow, and maybe even before tomorrow evening, which would be good.

There is also some other  news today that Stephen has told friends that he is “open” to a move to Tyneside.

And while that doesn’t exactly say he would walk to Newcastle to join the club, it’s another clue that perhaps a breakthrough has indeed been made in this rather long standing deal.

Newcastle will also have agreed a  transfer fee with Villa, should they want to make the deal permanent in the summer.

And we would have thought the fee to be around £6M(?), which could be another good deal for the Tyneside club, but only if Stephen approaches his best form before the end of  the season.

Stephen Ireland has played 170 times for Manchester City with 23 goals, and appeared just 12 times for Aston Villa, whom he joined only last August.

What do you think?

I still think Ireland is good creative player and wonder why he cannot make first team at Villa. maybe not his ability but his attitude there.

Even in current form he’s streets ahead of Guthrie and Smith. Thus we can get at least one of them of the books and further develop the squad. Plus, playing in front of a decent crowd and in a side with a bit of spirit will do wonders for his confidence.

I think Ireland will be a great signing, sure he hasnt looked good at villa this season but in truth who really has..the excellent togetherness of the newcastle players might just give him the confidence to find the form he showed at city…

    Good signing.

Ireland is a top class midfield player.

Anyone training with our squad must automatically get a lift (or a kick up the ass) from the great team spirit we have.

I have no idea how we are going to play Barton, Gosling, Ireland, Tiote, Nolan, Jonas, Guthrie & HBA?

We have quality in midfield that’s for sure.

Shrewd move by pards. Gosling crocked again, hba a little while away from full fitness, Guthrie a bit lightweight and tiote liable to a card it two, looks a good bit of business all in all, assuming a loan with view to buy.

So what position is he going to play? It will have to be him or Nolan?

people underestimate this signing, it is absoloutley massive, i have said it many times, Ireland is the most technically gifted british player. this is a massive signing and a huge step in the right direction.

look at our transfers since old carr come into toon.

    Gosling
    Tiote
    HBA
    Ireland??

thats 4 amaisingly good transfers for an excellant business, this season we have done the best business sofar regards transfers with a net spent of about 8 mill

Ireland is obviously a fairly complex and sensitive bloke. Feeling valued and welcomed are very important to him and as a result his form. I don’t think he felt valued or welcome with the Ireland side or at Villa.

Its rare you go from being a top, top player to being a waste of space in 7 months. Take a look at some posts on his YouTube videos from City fans 7 months ago when “Superman” left to Villa. That was only half a season ago.

Watching an interview on Youtube, there was obvious a lot more to this Villa move and I think there are a lot of similarities with him stopping playing for Ireland as well.

The Villa moved was pretty much forced on him, bad start at the club (6 nowt :-), change of manager who doesnt like him much etc. I dont know what happened with Ireland national team but I imagine something similar. Maybe he thought they were being unreasonable about his lass, he was homesick… who knows.. oversensitive? Yes .. petty? perhaps …. moody and over-reaction? possibly.

BUT… if we make him feel welcome and valued at the toon, we could have a tremendous talent on our hands …

Ireland is class…what all the sceptics need to realise is that the system at Villa doesnt suit his game at all. You dont become a bad player in half a season, he was brilliant for Man City. Judge on performance at the toon, not villa. I think he would have to play in the nolan role, supporting forwards, linking play.

Who else is coming, I hope we get a suprise signing…Love the idea of Mcgeedy but doubt it will happen.

Would be very hard to see him in the starting 11,unless he is willing to play on the winger and push Joey Barton in the middle ( Holding mid).

Its a good move on behalf of the TOON as we need quality players in the SQUAD. Players get injured and also loose form, having a healthy squad leads to more competition for places = better team.
    Hope the lad does well.

Only two or three years ago Ireland was one of the top four midfielders in this country.
If he could get back to that form we’d have a great deal.
If he plays regularly, to accommodate him, it looks as if we’ll be going with one up front, with Nolan just off the striker, for the rest of the season.

Ireland will be good for us im sure of it, whoevers moaning about him coming in will sson change there mind if he returns to his city form, if he doesnt…..then he’ll go back to villa. i can’t see why people are so against this, i mean…..seriously what have we got to lose? it’s a good gamble imo.

With all due respect to anybody who puts HBA on the wing…….really? i mean really? his best postion is behind the striker, he aint happy on the wings, i think thats where psg played him didnt they? when uve got a class player like HBA, u want to be getting the best out of him.
