Xisco And Newcastle Nightmare May Be Over – For This Season

Newcastle’s acquisition of Xisco for £5.7M from Deportivo in September of 2008,  must be one of the worst buys in Newcastle United history.

Xisco – on his bike – and back to Spain at least for this season

And that’s saying something, because the same club sold us a certain left winger called Albert Luque, who cost Newcastle over £9M, and was another flop at the Tyneside club.

Sky News is reporting that Xisco is being strongly linked with a return to Spain, and to his former club Deportivo La Coruna.

The striker, who was signed by Dennis Wise and led to the departure of Kevin Keegan from the club, and which ultimately led to Newcastle being relegated that season, made only 11 appearances for Newcastle, and scored one goal in his very first game against Hull City.

Of course, it was hardly the 24 year-old’s fault that Newcastle paid way over the odds for the player – and also that his wages are rumored to be around £50K/week.

But, unfortunately for Newcastle, it may be only another loan deal.

Xisco was on loan last season at Racing Santandar, and the lad may well stay at the Tyneside club, and see his contract out though the summer of 2013, which of course he has every legal right to do just that.

But if he does, another one of our Spanish players, who quickly comes to mind, and did the exact same thing is   Marcelino.

Sky Sports says the former Spanish U21 International is on his way to Spain right now  to undergo a medical, allowing the final details of  the loan move to be put in place.

Newcastle will also negotiate a transfer price, in case Deportivo want to take him permanently in the summer.

While his deal may  not be as bad as the one we made to bring Michael Owen to Tyneside, if  Xisco stays at the Newcastle club and sees out his contract, he will have cost Newcastle just over £18M over the five years – and that’s for 11 appearances and one goal.

Hey – maybe it will be worse than Michael Owen’s deal. 😀

Let’s hope Newcastle don’t make any more of these ridiculous buys, which will also stand with Jean-Alain Boumsong, Marcelino and Albert Luque – as some of Newcastle’s worst ever deals in the transfer market.

    I really hope we get Daniel Sturridge now. Great young player, could compliment Carroll really well.

    The latest rumours on Twitter are that Jason Puncheon’s agent has said we are not in for him and we have made a loan offer for Daniel Sturridge but so have other clubs, including Bolton.

    OK I’ve just read the houllier and mancini quotes about Ireland. I take it back – what TF are we doing ? He went on an awesome run of form a while ago, but has done nothing in 2 years apart from upset managers and team mates alike.

    It’s not like we need another central midfielder, and to take an INJURED and seemingly arrogant and lazy reject from a club struggling below us in the league is a very depressing transfer acquisition.

    Ye Danny sturridge would be good, old mates with Ireland from MANC?

    England under 21 with Andy C?

    Would compliment each other Sturridge & Andy.

    Hope the rumours are true…and he will want to go after being offered as a part exchange towards a liverpool torres deal. No one likes to be dispensible.

    i think ireland would be good addition provided pardew gets the best out of him which im confident he will, this is prob why its only a loan…If he’s shit we’ll send him back to villa come the end of the season…

    Yeah, can’t go wrong with a 6-month loan. Win-win situation for us, he can either try and get a permanent deal, or act like an idiot and get sent back early.

    His choice.

    Sturridge is yet another premiership forever-prospect who doesn’t actually score any goals from what I’ve seen,, great! At least he isn’t injured,, so the club are stepping outside the transfer target tick list this one time.

    Boater;

    Completely disagree. Form is temporary, talent is permanent and Ireland has got talent is abundance. Very few midfielders in this league are as technically gifted as him. Even Nedum Onuoha said he’s the most talented player he has ever played with.

    We need creative players because apart from HBA and Barton, no one in our team has creative vision and passing ability.

    You say we don’t need another central midfielder but I don’t think Guthrie is top class, Smith and Gosling are injured and Kevin Nolan is 28, Ireland is 24, so you could see Ireland eventually replacing Nolan.

    Boater;

    Sturridge is only 22 and hasn’t been able to get into Chelsea’s first team because two world class strikers in Drogba and Anelka are ahead of him.

    He’s really quick, mobile and has got got feet. He would do well alongside Carroll, and we could get him relatively cheaply now. His valuation will increase massively in a few years.

    not sure about Vukic he’s not on here?
    (maybe because he is reserve/not first team or something like that)

    nufcfans usually do their research. They speak to player’s agents etc before giving out information.

    North east based journalists like caulkinthetimes are also quite reliable.

    Everytime iv seen sturridge play he has been poor. He hasnt got a right foot at all. Ranger is younger and on much lower wages so i cant see us bothering with him. On the other hand Ireland is top draw… he is having a bad time at villa but at times he was world class at man c and we are doing well at turning players around lately so i have no doubt he will be a star.

    lewman;

    Ranger has got great attributes but clearly his finishing ability lets him down as we’ve seen this season with the misses against liverpool, spurs and hammers. Sturridge is a lot more clinical.

    sephir0;

    Apparently Pardew wants a striker, Sturridge has been mentioned.

    Don’t honestly understand why this lad has not been given a chance. If he had been at the club last season, the lower league may have helped him settle, much in the way it has with Colo and Jonas. Everytime I have seen him play, he has looked decent.

    Well, he certainly is one of the worst signings. But I think Hugo Viana was even worse business. Oh, wait a minute, the list is longish: Marcelino, Guivarc’h, Cort, Owen, Boumsong, Luque, Mari?… I’m glad that we are not continuing that politics though.

    if someone can create as well as score goals then that is an improvement on Nolan whose mobility is not great and creatity virtually non -existent, but he scores goals.

    I would say HBA and Ireland is actually a productive transfer window. Two very talented players,.Would still like a striker and maybe a right winger but I’m happy with the business we’ve done.

    Why do people keep saying that we need a right winger? Jonas is a right winger who is playing out of position on the left. We need a left winger so Jonas can play where he plays best.

    yeah i know, but as i said, if no one was injured we’d have carroll and i think if he is our main striker we need creative midfielders like barton, hba and ireland whereas nolan just doesn’t cut it in the creativity area IMO.

    Dunno, there are a host of players who had one hit season in the prem and then moved from club to club never to muster that level again.

    What does it say about the ambition of the club when all around us are bringing in quality and looking to improve. We are gambling yet again on coaxing back outcasts into form, and injured or – in sturridge’s case unproven players rather than showing any bold ambition. We should be

    If Ireland signs we don’t need a striker this window as he can play behind the CF in a deeper role.

    Wouldn’t mind a RW to give us options, but would defo be happy with HBA and Ireland in a traditionally difficult window.

    He would provide good defensive rigour for Simpson on our weak side.

    Still will be supprised if Ireland passes the medical, if he passed they must of not bothered doing one.

    I Hope for the Toons sake he could get some decent proformances but im still not sure if he will, if its on a loan he wont bother as much and might not work at all for the cause if its only a loan.
