Pardew – Enrique An Excellent Player For Newcastle

10:45 am, Monday, January 31st, 2011 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 62 Comments

It’s good news that Joey Barton is very close to signing a new deal to stay long term at the Newcastle United club.

Jose Enrique – next in line for improved contract at Newcastle

And Alan Pardew has talked today about another one of his top core players, who he wants to build the new Newcastle side around.

Jose Enrique is the player Alan wants to tie down to a new long term contract , and the Spaniard has been interesting some top clubs lately, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

But with his excellent displays over the last two seasons, that doesn’t surprise us one little bit, as Jose is one of Newcastle best players these days.

The Spanish left-back is also keen to stay on Tyneside, and has often said he would love to finish his career on Tyneside.

And Jose famously said once that he preferred the weather in Newcastle to that back in his native Spain.

Maybe that freezing cold North Sea breeze has gotten to the Spanish star? 😀

Alan Pardew talked about Jose today:

“We haven’t started negotiating with José yet, but I want to keep him,” “He has been superb for me since I got here and he is an excellent player.”

“We will start to talk to him in due course because he is an important part of what we are building here. He’s been very impressive.”

“Getting these contracts done is important and I’ve been happy with the support I have received from Derek Llambias, the managing director,  and Mike Ashley in doing this.”

And with things on the contract front going very well since Alan arrived,  we can see Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson, Ben Arfa, Joey Barton, Jose Enrique, Cheick Tiote and Andy Carroll all on new long term contracts before too long.

Of course the first two in the list have already signed new deals to keep them on Tyneside through the summer of 2016, and Ben Arfa’s  deal runs until the summer of 2015.

Comments welcome.

It’s amazing how far Jose has come along, when we first bought him it looked like another disaster signing, as he wasnt adapting to the premier league as much as we hoped…now look at him. Brilliant news with Pardew wanting to sign him up, Pardew has surprised me…. be fair to say he’s surprised alot of fans.

Sky have announced that Luckypool have accepted
    Chelski bid for Torres!!!

I hope that doesnt mean they start throwing silly money on the table for Andy C!!!! Just how long will the FCB be able to resist an offer of £25 – 30 Million??

  • 10 BiffBaffBoff // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:07 AM

Liverpool just bid £30m for Carroll :/

  • 11 Stuart // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:09 AM

Why would Carroll want to go to Liverpool, they arent exactly much better than us at the minute.

Plus if the worst comes to worst and he does leave, why would he choose liverpool over the likes of Chelsea, Man U and Real Madrid?

Silly scousers punching above their weight.

  • 12 marshy // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:10 AM

konchelski has left liverpool fot notts forest so they could also cme in for enrique.

David Craig of Sky has confirmed from the club a bid for Andy of £30m from an ‘unknown’ club (assumed to be the scousers) has been rejected.

If I bit my nails, I would have none left and it is only 11.20 a.m.

Please Newcastle DO NOT sell Andy.

  • 25 carlton nufc // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:19 AM

I actually belive in Ashley I think he’s known what he was doing all this time if you look at it we all had what we wanted big players that didn’t get
us nowere so now he’s doing it his way and it looks like it’s working I mean look at that rejecting 30 million pounds things are on the up I hope you prove everyone wrong cmon the toon camren jarome or elmander+ irlend and I’m a happy bunny

  • 26 dave 1961 // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:20 AM

Ashley will not sell as he’s just had 100 million half year profit and his only expansion now is into mainland Europe.

  • 27 BiffBaffBoff // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:20 AM

1116: Rolling, rolling, rolling. The Press Association is reporting that Newcastle have rejected a £30m bid from Liverpool for Andy Carroll.

  • 28 aDeadlyTicTac // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:21 AM

According to cwarro7 we have already agreed terms with Larrson and Bentley, no? I don’t believe that source.

  • 31 digereedo // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:25 AM

If it was guaranteed that the money made would be spent on the team then above 30m is worth taking. Particularly if we get tiote/ben arfa standard players in. But I fear the money would go to ashley and maybe 10 -15 mil spent on players.

  • 32 toonfan09 // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:25 AM

they have already come out and said carroll is not for sale at any price so i dont get why people are bidding for him

  • 34 Milzzy Rascal // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:28 AM

God I hate the transfer window!!! Saying that I think if Bent is worth £24 Million AC is worth at least £40 Million.

As long as it holds and Mike stays firm he’s done well. Although I do have the nagging feeling that he’ll wait until summer to sell. You know just after everyone’s returned their season ticket applications!!!

  • 35 BiffBaffBoff // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:29 AM

    CaulkinTheTimes George Caulkin
RT @TonyBarretTimes: LFC bid for Carroll is 25m. Newcastle trying to set value by claiming 30m? Sparking an auction?

  • 36 MattNUFC18 // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:31 AM

cwarr07 is rubbish. He said the Liverpool bid of £30 million was accepted then sky sports news came out and said it was rejected and he changed his mind. He just guesses about what other people have said.

  • 37 lewman // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:31 AM

he has been better than torres this season so unless they are going to bid more than what they are getting for torres they can fcuk off

  • 38 toonfan09 // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:32 AM

why wud liverpool bid 25 when spurs bid that and the toon laughed it off

  • 39 JohnnyBrookes // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:32 AM

If he sells AC now, on the last day of the window I am done with NUFC, shows no ambition, no hope for the future, Liverpool are below us and are selling their best player, which will see Reina go as well.

It’s a sham if he goes with no time to replace him. Just heard NUFC have confirmed bid rejected:

    Please be true!!

  • 40 GeordieGerman // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:32 AM

If it’s true that Ashley has turned down £30 million. Then I think it’s time for me to stop knocking the man…

… Till the next time he does something unexplainable.

  • 41 tdt // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:34 AM

its all over the place now, we’r erejected a £30m bid from Liverpool for Carroll.

  • 42 thegreatoba // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:34 AM

cwarr07- Sad to say money talks 30m for Carroll accepted by #nufc

this guy was spot on about Ireland the whole time, his sources have been accurate. We were in talks with Bentley and Larsson and he reported we were going to sign them because it was down to personal terms as the teams had agreed fees of loan. But both broke down (larsson because of wages and bentley bc of the amount of playing time, wanted to play every game). hes been right before, but my god this is going to be a long 12ish hours.

  • 43 SuperShearer // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:34 AM

Guys a close friend of mine is a football journalist and he is telling me that Liverpool’s bid for Carrol was 25 Million and that Newcastle are claiming it was 30 Million to spark a bidding war. I hope he’s wrong. Bid was rejected though.

  • 44 tdt // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:35 AM

Hahaaaaaaaaa lets all laugh at Liverpool! Just bin arguing with my bets mate who his a Liverpool fan, get on really well generally but when it comes to stuff like this the passion flares up and we do go at each other nasty. Lol! He reckons we’ll end up selling him come the end of the day, i beg to differ…. im having faith in u Ashley, considering your previous mistakes let’s see if you’ve learnt something!!

  • 54 jimmymac // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:43 AM

Important facts for people complain about MA:

    – We are in top half of the league.
    – we have the best squad we have had since Sir Bobby era. Plus they care for club and play for each other.
    – Without his money we would be worse off than Leeds as Sheppard ran the club as a joke.
    – He is signing our best players on LT contracts
    – Wages are reduced and we will soon be in profit, which is good for the financial future of the club.
    – The controversial appointment of Pardew has seemed a good decision, as he is doing very well IMO.
    – He is backing the manager: HBA, Ireland +1 maybe, we’ll see at the end of the day.
    – He is turning down stupid money for our best players, personally id take £30m for someone who has played half a prem season.

So give the guy a break, yes he has made mistakes, but he seems to be successful in most things he does, and this eventually seems to be the same with our club.

    ……now for the abuse 🙂

  • 55 aDeadlyTicTac // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:48 AM

  • 58 geoff777 // Jan 31, 2011 at 11:58 AM

    Can’t say you are wrong.
You’ve just omitted all the negative stuff.

Lying – Keegan – Wise – JFK – No Communication – Necking Pints Like A Yob – Relegation – Sacking Hughton

I must say I like the way the team is progressing.
If Ashley doesn’t get tempted to sell Carroll, he’ll have proved that he is building a team for the future.

Something he should have been communicating to the fans.
Why don’t Llambias or Ashley write monthly articles on the website?
Detailing in B&W their hopes, dreams for the future?

The club seems to be moving forward and building for the future but there is still a huge communications chasm between the owner & the fans.

  • 59 nufc1984 // Jan 31, 2011 at 12:00 PM

And why would we sign all these “key” players to 5 year contracts if we were planning to sell off arguably our best and most important asset? Every time pards has come out he’s said Carroll is not for sale. He hasn’t said the offer isn’t big enough, and were all forgetting we don’t need the money and Carroll knows that, so unless its going to get the club out of a black hole then why would he want to leave? He’s the same as gerrard at Liverpool. He’s born and bread in Newcastle and will one day captain his club.

  • 60 toonfan76 // Jan 31, 2011 at 12:10 PM

Totally agree with everything you’ve just said.
If Mike Ashley keeps Andy Carroll and signs him up to an improved contract and improves Tiote and Enriques contracts then he has proved to me he has the clubs best interests at heart. Lets not forget, he bought this club, saved us from doing a leeds and more importantly to him, he’s not gonna want to damage his investment any further by selling his prized asset. All will be revealed!

  • 61 GeordieGerman // Jan 31, 2011 at 12:21 PM

geoff777, I don’t think I could blame Ashley for our relegation. He wasn’t on the pitch playing. I put relegation down to the Prima Donas we had at that time.

  • 62 jimmymac // Jan 31, 2011 at 1:12 PM

i agree communication is one thing lacking, but i think that is more llambias’ responsibility as the chairman.

i agree with you also, the players we had: Owen, Martins, Viduka, Duff etc were on crazy money but didn’t care enough. now we have players like barton willing to take a pay cut to stay with the club.

If we get Ireland and even more importantly, get him playing again, he could be massive for us. he was arguably the top midfielder in the country over a year ago and is still not in his prime.
