We’ve seen the two differing accounts of what happened with Andy Carroll yesterday.
Alan Pardew – I will take Newcastle forward
And each Newcastle fan will weigh up what has been said, and then make their own decision about that what they think happened, and that’s the way it should be.
We’re pleased both sides have the story have been aired, and would only ask readers on this site to respect each other’s opinions, and let’s try to give each other a little bit of civility – it can work wonders – honest!
We were worried about how Alan Pardew would take Andy Carroll leaving, but we must say it’s a huge relief that Alan has tried to remain calm about it – because the last thing we want is another new manager on Tyneside.
Indeed, it is another huge challenge for the remaining squad at Newcastle to get the job done tomorrow night at Fulham, and if we can do that – we’ll be absolutely delighted.
Unfortunately the Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Pardew may be interested in bringing in West Ham United striker Carlton Cole in the summer.
We really don’t rate the guy much at all, and would much prefer to see somebody else brought in to replace big Andy, whose career at his local club ended rather sensationally yesterday under somewhat confusing circumstances.
Pardew will need to use every striker he has at Newcastle in the remaining 15 games, to somehow fill the gap left by the departed Carroll, and young Phil Airey, the Amble born 19 year-old, for one, will be given every chance.
Phil is currently out with a hamstring injury, but the 19 year-old 6″ striker will get a chance when he recovers.
And Alan has talked further about how giving Andy a wage rise after just negotiating his new five year deal, could have had negative consequences with some of the other players.
Alan said today:
“We did not want to do anything to destabilize the club.”
“Derek contacted Andy’s agent and said that if he wants to go we need a written transfer request, which he gave us.”
“It was fairly evident once that came in we would have to accept the offer, but still at that point he didn’t have to go.”
“My job now is to take this club forward with out him.”
The powers that be at Newcastle were concerned about what would happen if they gave Andy another immediate wage rise.
Steven Taylor and others then had every right to go and potentially ask for a wage raise too, and it could have catapulted out of control.
I’ve had lot of experience in managing different people and their wages, and in situations like this it can be sticky wicket, and you have to be very careful about what you do.
So we can appreciate why Andy wasn’t offered a new contract.
But at some point it’s time to move forward and put this mess behind us, which is what Alan and the lads will be trying to do today.
If Andy didn’t want to stay on Tyneside – so be it – he’s now a Liverpool player and I'[ll probably not watch too many of their games this season.
I’m not interested what the Reds do – only what Newcastle do.
A win tomorrow night and that red wine will be consumed – promise you that.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Rangerman, do you think that if MA and DL were not owning/ managing the club, the Carroll situation would have been resolved? It’s just a simple question.
MA does not care about his client [i.e. fans]. This is a major problem for any business. It’s not sustainable.

Comment #82@Rangerman Dont event try to compare Pardew with Keegan. Keegan has a genuine love for the geordies and walked when he spelt the sh#$t. Pardew has just been made in the cockney mafia

Comment #83That depends on who was owning the club but the majority of clubs have sold their better players in the past.
How I see it is we’ve sold a player that wanted to leave for more than I think he is worth, as long as that money gets reinvested well I’ll be happy.

Comment #84Thanks Rangerman, I wasn’t sure who had made the suggestion to him to put in the request. Something still doesn’t sit right with me though in understanding this. The only evidence we have that Carroll wanted to leave was the fact that he handed in the request – all other indicators, including the texts, previous comments he had made himself etc, all pointed to quite the opposite of someone wanting to leave the club- he was a local lad too afterall. So if the only evidence we are going on is the transfer request to signify him wanting a move isn’t there a possibility there is something more to this whole thing – and the reasons why he put in the request.
Something that will not go down well with me is if he is suddenly playing for Liverpool this week – suggesting at least to me this whole injury and trips away were a decoy which I would expect the manager would have had to be aware of?

Comment #86I meant that Keegan did it once and delivered. Hence he had second chance for our trust. AP f***ed up at the first attempt. Not because he’s by all means incompetent, but because his landlords are greedy b*****s, who are interested only in money making. This is entertainment business, not a bloody investment bank or gold mine! Or a sport goods retailer with cheapest goods.

Comment #87@toonmobile Somthing doesnt sit right . .thats true. The transfer request was all to convenient, and David Craig looked all too pleased to sell it to the geordie faithful . .he’s on Ashleys payroll

Comment #88Remember AP said that he and MA and DL ‘sat and discussed the offer’, when Andy popped in to try to speak with AP. Why they did not reject the offer straight away?
That is the question. Did they plot how to get the money?

Comment #89@88 well spotted Big Al 1970 – I wonder what those discussions about the offer amounted to? Surely no discussion is needed to say no, but of course discussions would be needed to make sure everyone was on the same page on how to make it happen before the end of the window…oh and here comes Andy wanting a talk about a new contract, wait a minute there’s an idea…

I know thats a Question to Rangerman, but the only way to answer it is to give an alternative management team.
FFS & DH – same outcome, he would have been sold, the difference being that the cash would have been used to cover old debts and the rest paid out as dividends.
NUST – They would have offered him the extra 50k a week, and then asked the fans to use their pensions to “invest” the aditional £2.5M a year to fund it. Repeat for 4 years, then watch your pension funds assets walk out on a free.
Mid East Oil Magnate – Would have given Liverpool 15 Million and AC, but in fairness we would now have Torres.

Comment #91Big Al 1970, Well spotted. You just conveniently left out the bit about Pardew getting a call at 8 in the morning and him telling them to turn it down as there was no time to get a replacement.

Comment #93@GG Can’t you see it’s all so convenient and the rejection, the request and everything else has been designed by the cockney mafia to paint a picture to the fans!?
Ultimately the decision to sell lies with Ashley and he made his decision. Now he’s trying to keep the fans on board by spoonfeeding bullsh#$t

Comment #94beardsleyschin – So how did the cockney mafia get Carroll to hand in a transfer request?

Comment #95@Rangerman lets look at it like this.
Yes 35mill is a lot of money but it’s only a good deal if we can get a player of equal quality in return. We can now afford the top strikers but the fact is none will come to us . .why would they?! We’ll sign 2/3 mediocre players.
Carroll is 22 and he’s a unique player. Hes not the best centre forward in the world, but there is not another like him whos unplayable in the air – thats why he was valued so high. KD is not stupid – remember when he bought Shearer for BB, sound familiar

Comment #96@rangerman Why didnt they refuse any request – thay wanted to sell. Don’t be so gullible man, the writing was on the wall as soon as MA brought in Derek Llambias best mate Pards!

By the same token does the Andy Carroll text sequence not look a bit bland and passionless for a young man whose world was being turned on its head at the time?
Anybody can paint a picture to suit there opinion on this because at the end of the day none of us know what actually happened.

Comment #98@Dagga True. But the fact is the ultimate decision lay with MA.
Blackpool chose to keep Adam as they know staying up is worth more than any transfer fee.
MA chose to gamble. With Carroll we could have made Europe, now theres a good chance we’ll go down, only this time- Collo, Enrique, Barton, and Ben Arfa wont stay. Who’s to say we’ll bounce back and if so it will look like very bad business made yesterday

Comment #100While I’m sure that MA/DL were more than happy to take the cash, AC had as much choice as anyone in this. Do you really think that Gerrard hasn’t sacrificed bigger deals to stay at Liverpool, even when Hicks and Gillette would have happilly gobbled up the cash. Do you think Shearer wouldn’t have been better off taking the Man U deal. That is what most of us as fans expect from players (we all expect the board to screw the fans over when a big enough wedge is dropped in front of them). But the real examples of this are so few and far between as to be negligable. Look at the Liverpool fans burning their Torres shirts in the street – Do you think their board wont be rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of them rushing out to replace them with “Carrol” shirts. How many of them will be honestly evaluating it – one of the worlds best strikers leaving a club which has no chance of providing him with the chance to realiase his ambition for the second season running.

Comment #102Liverpool were offering peanuts for Charlie Adams and trying to bully the seasiders into selling him. They almost sold him to Tottenham but they came in too late for him.
We are not ready for Europe yet our squad is way to thin and we cannot afford to spend the sort of money needed to change that at that level for at least a couple of seasons.
Survival and consolidation were our goals at the start of the season and still should be barring a rich sheik taking an interest in us in the near future.

Comment #103@Rangerman, I said in Dec that we would be daft to turn down a bid over 30Million. Although the only team that I expected to offer that was Man City.

Comment #104How can a bunch of liars take this club anywhere.
Pardew needs to grow a pair and resign.
He’s lied for weeks about building a team for the future with Andy Carroll as No9.
Greed all around caused this club to do this.
No one said no.
Pardew didn’t say “No, there is absolutely no way you are selling Andy Carroll, I’ve made so many public promises to the fans and players.”
Liar Resign Now Pardew.

Comment #105Pardew complete statement: ” my job is to take Newastle United forward … or backward, whichever direction makes more sense to the owner. Once we have moved forward, or backward, my job will continue to be a front man for the owner, who has no spine to make a statement to the public for himself”
