A Message To Stephen Ireland – Welcome To Newcastle!

With all the news going on in the press about the Andy Carroll affair, we’ve neglected to welcome our one new player to the the club – Irishman Stephen Ireland.

Stephen Ireland – welcome to Newcastle United!

We always thought Stephen was a fantastic player at Manchester City, but since the new owners came in, he’s not the only existing player at Eastlands to be forced out – and it’s hardly surprising he’s not been in his best form over the last 12 months.

He has had another bad time of things at Aston Villa with new manager Gerard Houllier – so he’s ended up at the right place in Tyneside, that’s for sure.

He will get huge support from Newcastle players and the Newcastle fans, who love to see great players in that famous black and white shirt.

Stephen is out injured right now, with a hamstring strain, but he should be back in two just two weeks, and it will be great when Stephen makes his debut for Newcastle United.

And we were heartened to hear Alan Pardew say good things about the 24 year old yesterday – as Alan said:

“We’re hoping that Stephen is two weeks away from playing.”

“We have constructed a deal with Villa that makes sure he is fit to play – in doing so we hope he is back to his best.”

“He’s a guy who was one of the big commodities in the Premier League with Man City and Villa.”

“He’s somebody who needs to be rebuilt.”

As we said when we first signed him, the main thing he needs is some tender loving care – that will certainly help rebuild him alright – and he’ll get that on Tyneside.

Welcome to Newcastle United Stephen – it’s great to have you at the club – and we all want you to become great again – in a black and white short – best of luck!!

Nice thing that they made a deal to makes sure he’s fit 🙂

Well, with a load of midfielders and few strikers, anyone else see us playing 4-5-1 for the rest of the season?

Really hoping Ireland can have some of him form back, would be awesome. Are we sure there’s no buy clause?

guys referring back to the carroll deal, but not carroll. Does anyone else think that since ashley has said that we’ll get all 36 million (up to debate if we will) that clubs wil demand ridiculous prices for players to us, and also players will demand ridiculous wages?

Waste of time signing Ireland without a to-buy clause.

We bring him back to form and Villa benefits.

that’s the risk this 36m has we were just seeing an improvement to our transfer system, now this money will be a poison chalice & might have put 5-10 million onto any deal, as everyone will want a slice of the money. that’s why its always (up until now) undisclosed.

I really think Alan Pardew will work with Stephen Ireland and make him the player he was at Man Citeh. He really just needs to come to be under a manager like Pardew. But, if Pardew helps him out than we should sign him on a permanent deal.

its always good to c a player of his quality running out in black n white, will be interesting to c how he fits in as we have quite an amazing midfield when everyones fit
    ben arfa
    and the rest
but id rather have the problem of too much quality than not enough, lets just hope whoevers played up-front can step up to the mark, love him or hate him a think ameobis been the only consistant striker, rangers shoed alot of quality but so far failed to rurn that into goals.
whoever he plays lets get behind them
    hwtl lets hammer fulham tonite!!!!!

I second that – easy to miss Stephen joining – I can see him being pretty key for the rest of the season given what’s happening around him (other MF’s getting crocked and carroll running for the hills)

Welcome to the madhouse Stephen – you’re very much wanted (and needed) here- fill your boots and you’ll be adored.

PS – Formation – mr ireland now lends us more to a 4-3-3 (ireland, barton, tiote – nolan, shola and either best or ranger) – so 4-3-3 with a 4-2-2 twist

geoff777, Forget what the others are saying. You are 100% correct.

They will not be saying you are negative when come summer, we have Ireland bang on form, playing in a successful midfield with Barton, Tiote, Nolan for Villa to just come in and thanks and good bye him from us.

And I know what Villa are like with transfers. They will ask 12m for a decent Ireland MIN. Now that they have wind of this new 35m money, who knows !!! But had a buy clause been inserted BEFORE Carroll was sold, we would have averted that problem.

I blame Ed in here for making the banner color. Think it caused all of Nufcs problems. And perhaps even the economy.

totally agree what if he scores every game he plays his value rockets, it’s a puzzler it make no sense at all, if true i hope we at least tried to get one, if not it could be another balls up when we would have nothing to loose.

Why wouldn’t there be a to-buy clause in the contract? You’re talking like you know there isn’t but if there is one thing this club has shown it is that they are much much better than most at keeping insider knowledge…. inside for lack of a better word at the moment. Generally leaks of info seem to come from other clubs not from us (that’s a good thing). I would guess that most of our signings in the future are going to be loan signings with a to-buy clause inserted so that we can judge what will happen when that player is brought in. They want to keep a good dressing room spirit and if you have the to-buy clause in it you just make sure that the player does not play the mandatory amount of games needed to activate it. Better to take a 500,000 hit on wages than to take a massive loss like Luque created when we signed him. If we had done the sort of deal with him that required a certain amount of appearances he wouldn’t have made it and we wouldn’t have lost millions in wages/fees never mind the amount of time put in trying to get him off to another team (forced to play him to put him on display as well creating bad results and bad atmosphere for the other players). Making loans with the option to buy is the most prudent transfer policy. Wonderful idea with HBA… based on his history he could have been an absolute mess in the dressing room.

They had to sign someone. Ireland at least gives the illusion that he might be able to kick a ball by the end of the season. I doubt if he gets a start unless NUFC is desperate, and have run out of bodies and strategies. Not playing him will be the way to sign him on the cheap in the summer, which will make management appear to be improving the squad.

ys everyone saying if he plays well his price will go up, i was under the impression that normally when you have the right to buy clause u agree the price before the deal is made as im sure that has probably happened before

I don’t know if we have a option to buy clause in the contract. I hope we do as it is the best way to make sure your money is not going to waste. Recently our loan deals have included the clause but as soon as we signed Ireland the reports flying around were mentioning that there was no buy on clause in this particular deal.

Either way Ireland is a great talent that when fit he will be a huge boost to our creativity on the field and he will score a few vital goals on the way. He is only a couple of weeks away so the sooner Ireland, Ben Arfa and Gosling come back the better we’ll be. With those 3 coming I can’t see us struggling in the league. It’s a damn shame we had an incredibly talented and greedy geordie as a striker that’s just left as his headers and hold up play was very important to our success. But I believe that Ben Arfa can play in the hole just behind the striker well and with these players in our midfield we’ll be okay.

    Have faith guys!!

    Howay the Lads!!

    Fcuk Carroll!! 😀

I know it isn’t the best source, but wikipedia currently says that we do have a option to buy Ireland at the end of the season.
