The sickening story of Andy Carroll leaving Newcastle on Monday continues today as the club and Andy fight a PR battle to tell what really happened, and therefore who was to blame.
Derek LLambias – we cannot afford 80K/week
But of course to Newcastle fans the local icon is gone, and it’s just very painful to have to watch Andy become a great player – but wearing the red strip of Liverpool.
It’s just soul destroying to most Newcastle fans – including me – in truth I feel devastated by what’s happened – but I’ll get over it don’t worry – but only when Andy retires or when I kick it. 😀
Llambias was said upset and dismayed at Carroll’s false claims that Newcastle wanted to cash in on him.
Newcastle’s Managing director Derek Llambias said today:
“We didn’t push Andy Carroll out, far from it – he asked to go.””The fact is Mike Ashley didn’t want to sell him, it’s not like he needs the money is it? And remember we turned down bids of £30m and then £35m from Liverpool.”
“That’s serious money for a 22-year-old with only six months’ experience in the Premier League. But finally Mike’s point of view was the player’s put in a transfer request, so what can we do?”
“Andy was already earning top money at the club after signing a new deal recently.” “But he said he’d been offered £80,000-a-week from Liverpool and asked what we would pay to make him stay.”
“We told him the club just couldn’t afford to give him a deal like that, nothing close.” “And when we said ‘No’ – well, that’s when he put in his transfer request.”
The press will be very happy about all of this, and will try to prolong all the discussion and discussion, but we all need to move on from this sorry and sad state of affairs soon.
Llambias added:
“Yes, he went in our helicopter. But the sooner the deal was done the sooner we could make our own moves in the transfer market.”
“It was already very late.” “We will spend in the summer. Every penny of the £35m will stay in the club.”
The problem that Mike and Derek have is that they’ve lied too often to Newcastle fans, so that whenever they tell us anything there’s always that suspicion that surrounds their statements, and whether they are true or not – or just for PR.
As they admitted, when they said Kevin Keegan was in charge of all transfers at the club, but actually wasn’t, which they later admitted.
Did we say this was a sorry state of affairs for Newcastle United?
Hey, by the way, we need all 3 points tonight at Craven Cottage.

Comment #41Daneevz Andy Carroll is a 22yrs old England International,i don’t believe he’s asked for £80k a week,i think that’s a number the club have came up with to make him look bad, i think he’s asked for nowhere near that,as i’ve said Alan Pratdew said they were going to renew his contract in the summer,6 months away, common sense would be to offer him his contract early to fend off interest from liverpool.Joey Barton is 28 and on £60k a week,i don’t think any club working within a financial budget(outside the top 4 clubs) would have gave him a pay rise.

I love your blog but this is starting to go to far, as it did with the Hughton saga. People in here think that MA, DL and Pardews are liars because they said Carroll was not for sale at any price and historical reasons. Complete nonsense.
1. If you have been following football for a while. He’s not for sale, means: We will sell if the price is right.
2. I honestly believe that they weren’t expecting a bid in that region, simply because it was the second highest bid within PL, in history. Make it the 14th highest bid on this planet.
3. How many times have we not heard player say: “I’m staying”, and then in the next moment their gone.
4. If Andy wanted to stay why didn’t he? If he really wanted to play for Newcastle why did he sign for Liverpool? If the club is so important for you, aren’t 25K£ a week enough? He could just say no.
5. I honestly believe no one saw this coming, not even the press had a clue. It’s the most shocking move in the PL in years, but it always happens.
Get over it. Every player has it’s price, and this time around it was met by Liverpool. Looking forward to the game tonight, and hopefully three points at Craven Cottage.
PS! I’m tired of whining Newcastle supporters.

Comment #44Andy Carroll sale. £35 million to spend in summer (supposedly) on players AND wages. Wage cap £50k a week. Say £2.5 million a year wages for a player at the top of our wage cap. Over a five year contract say £12.5 million total cost on wages. Cost of a top player? Well we know that can be sky high now, but lets say between £5million (what we have known Ashley will spend) and £10million. Total cost of player (cost+wages)- £17.5million – 22million. This is of course assuming a recognised Premiership player with pedigree. This is of course a rough scenario but it shows that £35million won’t go far on established players.

Comment #45Carroll on £50k a week for next five years. Cost to club – £12.5million.
Carroll on £80k a week for next five years. Cost to club – roughly £20million.
Cost of buying a new striker on wage cap of £50k a week for five years. Assuming cheap striker circa £5million – £17.5million
£2.5 million difference. Make up your own mind on the value of the deal. Not claiming to be totally financially aware of all this but this rough scenario doesn’t seem to actually make much better off?

Comment #47lol that £35million isn’t going to strech far for a new striker + wages over 5 years. At least not an established one. Never mind the other players we have lost / will lose and need to replace.

Comment #48£35 would be enough, coming into the window most fans would of been happy with a winger a back up striker for carroll and some cover for jose.
Now we need 2 strikers, not even sure we need a winger who can cross now that carroll has gone and a LB.
We will still have money left to pay Ashleys tab at the local casino.

Comment #503 top players at the limit of our wage cap over a five year contract would mean over £35million though over the five years just on wages, not on the actual cost to buy them.
Sorry I might have the maths wrong of course and not be totally accurate on what is involved. Even if we go for 3 average players on £25k a week that is still £17.5million over 5 years on wages. That leaves £17.5million for player costs, which wouldn’t be too bad, leaving the average of £5million for each a possibility.
So yeah maybe 3 average players on £25k a week might be possible. So we replace our old number 9, now Liverpool’s number 9 main striker, with three average players? Just food for thought!

Comment #51Something else i’ve noticed aswell,i’ve heard both sides of the argument now(Pratdew and Carroll) and i think Carroll’s side makes more sense than Pratdew’s.Carroll said. “The owner made it clear to me that I was not wanted at the club,” said Carroll. “Saying that his own helicopter was waiting for me to go down to talk to them. So being shown I was not wanted, I said, ‘Okay, I will talk to them’. Then suddenly the bid was rejected. That would explain why on SSN David Craig was outside St James’s with breaking news that” Carroll was on his way to Liverpool for talks and he could be there already”,can’t remember the exact time he said it 3 or 4ish,then we got the news about an hour later that Newcastle had rejected their 2nd offer(knowing that behind the scenes he’d already agreed to talk to Liverpool),by the way, what a great(?) move that was, kill 2 birds with 1 stone, rejecting Liverpool’s bid makes the club look like they are trying to keep him and get’s a bit more money out of the scousers. Here’s how it goes down,Carroll say’s he was forced into going for talks, source inside the club phones david Craig outside and tells him carroll agrees to talk to Liverpool, then you get SSN taking the ball and running with it with the breaking news that he’s on his way to Liverpool for talks,Newcastle already know behind the scene’s that Carroll’s going, now it’s all a matter of seeing how far Liverpool will go knowing that time’s running out to find a replacement for Torres(by the way i have a theory on this,Chelsea offered the £50m for him a lot earlier than reported,Newcastle and Liverpool knew that Torres was defo going to Chelsea, that’s why they milked 35m from a desperate Liverpool).Andy Carroll’s statement seems to fit the events we were all watching on SSN.One thing i didn’t understand is if Andy didn’t want to go why didn’t he contact Liverpool and just say i’m not interested in a move end of,but understanding what i’ve learned why would he if he said in his own statement he was forced out.

You also havent taken in Carrolls wages this time, so another £12.5 at £50k over the 5 yrs.
Lets face it even if we had kept him he would of been after a payrise at the end of the year.
I am glad he has gone, the better he got the more trouble he got in. That would of had an effect on the other youngsters coming through if they saw him as a role model.
Lets just finish the season safely and hope for a few good players in the summer.

Does seem this move was about money its a shame we couldnt of secretly upped it or something but he was holding the club to randsom and AC knows we have a salery cap so why bother asking for more i mean damm you just signed a new 5 year deal weeks ago and havent featured in the last month why did he want more? maybe another pushy agent and a stupid client!
End of the day both were in the wrong but i feel if AC loved NUFC and what he had here he would of outright rejected Liverpools offer!
MANY MANY players have done that namly Mamadou Diarra at Madrid rejected sooo many offers over the last few years or more and then he recently went, but the club accepted any offer but he rejected as he LOVED madrid and wanted to stay! AC could of done the same but obviouslly NUFC didnt mean too much to him! or he is stupid enough thinking we will take him back latter on in his career!

Comment #56I’m no fan of Ashley and Llambias, but I’m inclined to believe Carroll went for the paycheck. However, it is sheer stupidity to let AC go without a suitable replacement. The transfer should have been stipulated on that, just as Torres to Chels was stipulated on a replacement. Why do we have to be the only fools in that chain of events left without a striker. fml

Comment #58has anyone thought that the helicopter was in newcastle cause ashley was there. thats how he travels up to the toon. i dont blame ashley and co at all they rejected £35 millio for him. carroll is a greedy twat. he only just signed and new deal and was told they would negotiate new one in summer. he wanted new deal now so basically it was gonna be on his terms no player is bigger than the club. also hes said many of times that he wanted to spend rest of career at the toon if true he would of been more than happy getting 30k a week at moment and then getting pay rise in summer. instead hes wanted the big bucks cause at end of the day he would never of got 80k a week like hes getting at liverpool. if i was in his shoes i would of loved wearing number 9 shirt and playin for the toon on 30k its still 1.5million a year which is more than enough.GREEDY B*****D get behind the toon
also to all n’zogbia slatters the boy is brilliant get him on the left wing for next season

Comment #59As far as regards Carroll! I think i,ve heard enough of his name in the last few days!
Basically he,s gone, we need to get used to that and stop bitching on here about!
Don,t care about how it was done, coz if you look at our recent history, it does,nt surprise me.
Its not worth all this bullshit, lets move on and concentrate on staying up, if this drags on too long the confidence of the rest of the team is gonna suffer!
It is typical, however that an important player has been sold for big bucks without stopping to consider a replacement, and the timing of the whole deal was totally unproffessional.
Further to the above:
I,ve just watched us lose to Fulham away! Not a good game which Fuklham did,nt deserve to win. The transfer hype of the last few days has maybe already dented the confidence of the rest.
Lets not let this transfer bull spoil our whole season! Arsenal at home on Saterday!

Comment #60Don’t people realise that it’s not just transfer of Carroll thats the problem,it’s what the transfer say’s about the club.My favourite player is Enrique,i love watching him play, now after the sale of Carroll i’m horrified to think that if a big club comes in for him in the summer or any of our top players they’re going to sell him,not only that it’s hit the team morale,we don’t know whats going on behind the scenes, how would you feel if you were a Newcastle player with all that’s happened over the years, how much more can the team take?.It’s all well and good to say well we’ve got 35m to spend, what happened to the Milner and Given money?,as far as i can recall we spent 3.5m on Tiote(bargain of the decade)in the summer.Bottom line is we need Ashley out of our club before they can be any moving forward, isn’t that obvious?and i personally think us fans should be on here everyday to make the fans with the wool pulled over their eye’s aware. It makes my skin crawl seeing ashley in the Black and White, disgusting
