Even though Newcastle have some decent cash to spend this summer, we expect them still to pick up some bargain deals in the free transfer market.
Zoltan Gera – free agent in summer
One of the players that may interest Newcastle is Fulham midfielder Zoltan Gera, who seems not to be rated by new Fulham manager Mark Hughes, and Gera’s contract runs out in the summer.
The Hungarian International wants to play more games, and that’s always a good sign, but whether Zoltan is good enough for Newcastle is an open question.
Fulham will talk to him about a new contract, but it is likely that he will want to move on from Craven Cottage this summer.
But Gera turns 32 in April, so he hardly fits the profile of younger players Newcastle will be looking for, and couple that with the fact he’s an average to good player at best, we don’t think Newcastle will be too interested.
The news is that Newcastle and Stoke both made late inquiries for the player on Monday, but that news may not be factual. Yes we know, that would be very unusual.
The player signed on at WBA in 2004 from Hungarian club, Ferencvarosi, and joined Fulham on a free transfer in the summer of 2008.
The 6′ tall attacking midfielder, who can also play on either wing, has played 68 times for Hungary, and 111 times for Fulham with 17 goals.
Zoltan is a decent player, but we doubt Newcastle will be too interested.
