Nile Ranger Selected For England U20 Side

Good news today that Newcastle United 19 year-old London-born striker Nile Ranger has been selected in the England Under-20 squad,  for their friendly against France on Wednesday, February 9th.

Nile Ranger – will Newcastle allow him to play?

Andy has already been part of the England U19 set-up, when he appeared 7 times at the Under-19 level, and scored 5 goals, and always played well for that side.

We had been wondering when and if he would get back into the England set-up,  because he had been left out of the England U19 side for quite some time.

Head coach Brian Eastwick has selected an 18 man squad to play France at Shrewsbury Town’s Greenhaus Meadow ground next Wednesday night.

We all have to hope that Nile doesn’t get injured in that game!

And indeed, we wonder if Newcastle will withdraw him because of their current shortage of fit strikers?

Here is the England Under-20 squad:

Nathan Baker (Aston Villa), Nathan Cameron (Coventry City), Steven Caulker (Bristol City – on loan from Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Crystal Palace), Jake Kean (Blackburn Rovers), Jason Lowe (Blackburn Rovers), Scott Malone (Burton Albion – on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jordon Mutch (Birmingham City), Alex Nimely (Manchester City), Dean Parrett (Tottenham Hotspur), Matt Phillips (Blackpool), Nile Ranger (Newcastle United), James Severn (Derby County), Adam Smith (AFC Bournemouth – on loan from Tottenham Hotspur), Marvin Sordell (Watford), Cameron Stewart (Hull City), Reece Wabara (Manchester City), Sanchez Watt (Leeds United – on loan from Arsenal)

    Surely you mean “Nile”
Someone still has Carroll on the brain lol

It might bring him on as a player, the more games and confidence he gets, the better for us

Sod that he needs pulling out!

The F.A realise the mess we are in so its a no brainer.

I also assume the F.A didnt watch Sky on Wednesday either as once again Nile was shocking at least from where I was stood in the away end. Not watched the game back on Sky yet as that would be a bit masochistic.

Yeah I know he is a kid but I have been saying for months – I dont see anything there to suggest Ranger has “it”.

But he is one of only 3 strikers (senior) we have left and cant be released to play for England.

Needs wrapping in cotton wool and Tagged to stop him going out on the beer.

This is your big chance son either grasp it or blow your chance at a career at this club.

@sammy. Yes, tell him that most fans seem to think he has the most potential out of all our remaining strikers to step into Carrolls boots, and ask what he intends to do about it lol!

@Davies. I’d like to see him used as a wing forward, with his pace he’d be well suited to the role. it means we can centralise Joey too

davies if he learnt how to pass and to be aware of other players around him then he might be able to play as a cam.

hopefully nile will improve and i just think he needs to be a bit more brave and confident, hopefully he can score a few for the under 20’s and that might see him gain a bit of composure but i think he is a bit clueless on the pitch and could do wwith a confident decent and experienced striker beside him.

i hope we get a few strikers in next season and then we can send him out on loan for 6 months to see how he does playing every week in the championship.

i think aliadiere could be a good move, he looked decent for arsenal in the cups but only really got sub appearences in the league so his 1 goal in 29 or whatever stat is not as bad as it woulod seem, plus kris boyd didnt really score many for the smoggies and he got 163 goals in the scottish league which is probably at a similar level to the championship.

@selbymag – agree he was shocking on Weds night, tho best wasn’t any better – thier decision making leaves a lot to be desired and ranger was constantly whinging to best, barton and anyone else within earshot

it defies belief we didn’t get in vela or sturridge after pardew had obviously decided to get rid of Xisco and Routledge.

    Tiote

    Jonas (right) Barton Ireland

    Nolan / Ben Arfa

    Ranger / Vuksic

Best, Loven and Shola are donkies in this league.
    At least Ranger has potential.

Keep in mind there was a hard wind blowing the length of the field and everyone was having trouble getting on the end of anything in hte air.

Don’t let Ranger go to the U-20 game. NUFC is just too short of strikers.

Can somebody please explain to me why Smith, Routledge, and Xisco, are all included in our official squad handed to the Premier League, despite two of them being at other clubs and the other out injured for the rest of the season? Is this yet another example of Pardew having his finger on the pulse?

Hey, but Claudio “Piojo” Lopez, he plays very well, forward and midfielder.Good shot.

    Or Ewerthon.

    Both are better than Aliadiere.

when you look at the rest of the U20 squad, it shows the potential that Nile has that he is playing Premiership football whilst the rest of his peers are at the level they are…

Ranger can become a target man, he won a lot of headers on Wednesday and when you think one of the players he was up against Hangeland. It was just Best never anticipated the knock ons – they just never worked together up there, which, with them two possibly being the main men, I hope they’ve been working very hard on.

I can’t see how the club lets Ranger leave given the current situation. It will be great seeing Ranger playing in the Olympics this summer though.

    agree with nufcburty

it’s well known players scan this blog. the last thing someone like Ranger needs is more pressure from insensitive, idiotic fans. this isn’t his time but he’s being forced into it. He shouldve been sent out on loan to L1 or championship club to gain experience, but instead the powers that be charged him with now pretty much being our #1 striker. It’s not his fault. It’s people like Nolan, Best, McLoven who need to stand up and be counted.

On a side note, unfortunately I don’t think we’ll see the best of Peter as he depends on those balls being whipped in, cutting inside defenders or being a “johnny on the spot” type. It’s not cause he’s not “PL standard”, he is, our team just can’t play his game i’m afraid
