Alan Pardew has talked about his search for a free agent, but he thinks whoever he signs will unlikely become a starter this season.
Alan Pardew – this photo had to have been taken this week
That’s hardly a surprise, because the players available don’t have any contracts with clubs, and are therefore struggling to find a new club, so are hardly top players.
This is what Alan said today:
“Yeah, we are exploring the free agent market,” “I have looked at our bench in terms of attacking options to change the game or put a different picture on the pitch.”
“I need to explore that thoroughly and there are one or two options we can take and we are on to them. That is all I can report.”
“I think it would be a great opportunity for any player to come to Newcastle and into this team because if I was a striker, I would be quite confident of getting chances with what I have behind me.”
“But I do not envisage there is a player there who will definitely be a first-team player, but someone who can make an impact from the bench or maybe earn the right to start.” “There is that potential.”
It’s really a fantastic opportunity for Lovenkrands, Best and Ranger to show what they can do – and maybe Phil Airey too – when he’s fit.
And Kevin Nolan hit the nail on the head yesterday, when he said they’ve been wanting opportunities all season in the first team – so they’ll now get that – and it’s up to them to show what they can do.
It’s almost put up or shut up – but good and truthful words from Kevin.
We hope all three players can rise to the occasion in Newcastle’s hour of need.
Comments welcome.

They’ve got their chance now to show what they can do.
If they’re shite they can’t complain when they’re shipped out at the end of the season.

Comment #8If we could get Ewerthon on a free I’d be happy. He’d certainly five us something different.
However, in a few weeks i can see us playing a 433/451 with Best up top, HBA and Nolan playing just off him, and Tiote, barton and Ireland in the middle.

Comment #9The top clubs introduce young players when they are doing well, only cowboy outfits throw them in when they are in a self contrived chrysies. this is how to destroy the kid’s confidence.

Does no one remember Jon Dahl Tomasson? Got thrown in at the deep end after signign for us, after Dalglish sold Ferdinand and then Shearer did his knee in. Was too much pressure on him at the time, and he was judged harshly to have been a flop.
A flop who went on to play for AC Milan and Feyenoord and have a very successful career.
The kids do need to be given a chance, but you can’t expect them to be world beaters if theyre just chucked in the team.

Makes me wonder though why we let routledge and xisco go without replacement, even if they end up being bench warmers or impact subs? Very strange indeed as unlike Carroll there was plenty of time to replace them.
Also wonder what happened to the other player we were meant to sign?
Everything crossed we can put a few points on the board over the next few games. My expectations are zero for this game, but perhaps thats a good thing.

Comment #12We have a cut-throat money obsessed owner.
We now have a spineless Championship manager who just lies and lies and lies.
I’m sick of him praising and appealing to the fans.
The fans he’s been lying to since the first day he arrived at the club.
Nobody wanted him then … who wants him now?
I see Tiote is now playing with a huge “For Sale” sign on his back. Cheers Pards you puppet.
Pardew needs booing out of this club.

Fat Fred sold JDT, Dalglish wanted to keep him! He thought six million for a 31 yo old striker was good business!
It has parallels with the current situation. I was at JDT’s debut v Sheff Wed, he had a 1 on 1 versus Kevin Pressman after about a minute. Pressman saved it and the 38,000 fans let out an almighty groan. He walked away with rounded shoulders, and from that moment on his NUFC career was ruined!
He was also as you say played before he was meant to be, he was a withdrawn striker not an up top striker. He was supposed to play off Shearer.

Comment #18One thing you’v got to say bout Pardew that he is very honest in his interviews. Totally opposite to hughton.
Maybe Pardew goes abit too honest some times, like before the fulham game when he said they have some weak links in their defence that they will target etc…
And with routledge, he said he basically wasnt good enough..
Like above hes not bigging up his free agent signing….fair play for not beating about the bush.
