Lovenkrands And Tiote Start For Newcastle Against Gunners

Cheick Tiote and Peter Lovenkrands are back starting in the Newcastle United line-up, in a tough game against Arsenal this afternoon at St. James’ Park.

24 year-old holding midfielder Cheick Tiote returns to the side, after serving his three-game suspension for his straight red card in the FA Cup disaster at Stevenage, and he comes in for Danny Guthrie, as expected.

Peter Lovenkrands has been given the chance to partner Leon Best up front, in the absence of the injured Shola Ameobi,  and has a chance to prove he can still score some goals for the Magpies, now we are really short of strikers.

So Alan Pardew is playing an attacking 4-4-2 formation today, and he’ll be hoping for a win to end what must have been one of the most difficult weeks in his management career.

Michael Richardson for the second game running is on the subs bench, as this 19 year-old has impressed playing for the Reserve side this season.

A win today is exactly what we want to see, and with this side – it’s a real possibility too.

Howay The Lads!!

Newcastle: Harper; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Barton, Nolan, Tiote, Gutierrez; Best, Lovenkrands
Subs:  Krul,  Perch, Campbell, Guthrie, Richardson, Ferguson, Ranger

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Koscielny, Clichy, Diaby, Wilshere, Fabregas, Arshavin, Walcott, van Persie
Subs:  Almunia, Eboue, Squillaci, Gibbs, Bendtner, Rosicky, Chamakh

Best line -up we have IMO, suprised he’s gone with Lova as he never seem to get a look in – I think he’s better than Ranger at this stage because of his experience. Is it enough? highly unlikely we can win this one so keep your expectations low lads.

Expect the worst and hope for the best. So long as the performance is a lot better than fulham then whatever will be will be…

I would much rather have seen a 4-5-1 today. Giving Nolan more attacking duties.

Get your point Rob – but I don’t think we have a striker who can hold in a 4-5-1 currently, which is what I think Pardew was alluding to in his change to style of play.

This 4-4-2 could easy transform in 4-5-1, with Løvenkrands and Gutierrez rotating on the flanks, with Nolan in more forward role.
If our boys show spirit and commitment, I wont have complaints whatever the final outcome is.
Here is a hope that we’ll eventualy sneak a win in fighting & battling display.
    Howay the lads!

I’m going for a 2-1 win! Since Tiote is back than we might have some confidence in winning this game.

could be one up front, with loven on the left, guti on the right. That’d be my pick – with the pace the gooners have on the flank.

Playing with a lone striker when the striker in quiestion is unable to hold up a ball is like commiting suicide. It will be trown right back at us. I do fear that Best and Loven even togheter lack that kind of spirit and attributes but at least it’s worth trying.

Nice to have some good news in sunderland losing, however stoke now leapfrog us and we’re now 11th.

We must win that game in hand whenever it is as it put us 3 points further away from relegation and closer to top.
