Newcastle In Shock Bid For Thierry Henry

The Daily Express is reporting this morning that Newcastle United have tried  to sign French International and former Arsenal player,  Thierry Henry on a short term deal.

Thierry Henry – while at Barcelona

Thierry is now at the NY Red Bulls, and has been training with Arsenal getting ready for the MLS season that begins in a couple of months.

Apparently Newcastle approached Henry’s agent Darren Dein, to see if a temporary deal could be arranged.

It would be a loan deal, but of course Thierry is not half the player he once  was, but there again he can still put the ball in the back of the net, which is a player Newcastle now need desperately.

We don’t think this deal can be pulled off,  because it’s just too close to the Red Bulls starting their pre-season.

A Newcastle source told the Daily Express:

“We had a real attempt to get Henry, but the start of the MLS season worked against us.”

“Carroll’s eleventh-hour departure prevented us getting a regular signing to replace him.”

“But we would like to find a quality replacement, given that we have to look at players outside regular club contracts.”

Newcastle were reported to be prepared to pay Henry a six-figure weekly wage to accept a short-term contract.

It also turns out that Newcastle tried to make a deal with Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic as a makeweight in the huge Carroll deal. But it’;s not clear whether Newcastle didn’t want to do that deal or whether it was Liverpool.

Maybe Liverpool valued Jovanovic at a ridiculously high value, because he’s been a big flop on Merseyside since signing as a free agent on a three year deal last summer.

But for whatever reason that didn’t happen, and now Alan Pardew will look for some free agent(s) to sign – but there doesn’t seem to be too much class available out there right now.

Wonder how many calls from agents Newcastle have received in the last few days?

And is Alan Shearer fit right now?    Just kidding. 😀

Comments welcome.

Whoever we get in, the decision needs to be made quickly before the rot sets in… if it hasn’t already!

Sure pay a temp Henry 6 figures, but you can’t pay England’s centre-forward and the brightest prospect in English football a wage to match his valuation …

    Pardew is a liar.

Boo them out of the ground.

To hell with Henry. ROUTLEDGE. Ah my word. WHAT WERE WE DOING? letting him go FFS? Another match winning goal from him at QPR.

Please spare me the line about him being Championship class. He was excellent against chelsea in the 1-1. And featured in other victories – Villa for e.g. Anyways, we need bodies, if he goes you replace him.

Why the hell would we let him go, when our only other ‘wingers’ are both playing out of position, and NO senior cover whatsoever.

By the way, my point is about replacing him as a valuable squad man- not that he was gonna set the premiership alight.

Agreed Boater completely, he may not be good enough for this level, but he is better than what we have. He had pace, that is sometimes enough with 20 mins to go.

This is literally ludicrous, I have mackems ripping me on youtube etc, and tbf I can’t really say anything back. Like you said, pay henry 6 figures but not a 21 year old England Centre forward.

    Absolute joke

STOP PRESS: Hi Fans, Forget Henry!

I’ve just got back from my pint with SuperMac and he reckons he might be up for it – but only for 15 minutes at the end to start with. This will cost us £100, plus boots, kit, false teeth, wig, garters, support stocking and shower gel, which seems a but steep but that’s the way these days. Not sure I can rush the deal through before today, but rest assured I know what I am doing.

OK, must rush now, my pay as you go mobile is showing Sir Les wants to talk about my earlier texted offer… I can get him down to £50 plus the bus fare, I know I can!

    Don’t worry, we’ll draw 0-0 at some point today*, I promise…

(* after 10 seconds this will be guaranteed score)

where these young players that they are going bring on and sell, if this policy is what they are doing great where the young forward for today’s game, its nor ranger as he’s not ready yet. So why did Pardew not buy some young players in the window, oh yes I forgot that he was so impressed with best & shola that he did not need to bring anyone in. when is the club going to realise that all the mistakes that were made, were decisions made by Ashley, so he should have paid the costs and written the money off. How come us fans have to pay for mistakes we make in life, !but Ashley makes a loan, and it seems the loan is going down, he’s in for a shock next season because I don’t know a single season ticket holder that intends to renew.

I said days ago – if CFs are available get them all because we need the numbers – this still includes Jeremie Aliadiere, Francis Jeffers and Brazilian Ewethon – OK it will cost money in the short term but so what! We are allready paying a fortune for players (including loans) who have not (or can’t) kicked a ball yet.
Pardew said we needed three in but three went out – so we are SIX DOWN on our manager’s plan- and we are going to get suspensions and injuries in the next few games! Get them in – play them – if it works keep them – if it doesn’t at least we can field a full team. We need help – NOW.

Carrol s still injured, and we would be short of strikers even if we has still at the club. The fact we didn’t sign anyone is I don’t think the club had enough money to bring in a striker that’s better than Best, Løvenkrands og Xisco, and then it would only be a waste of money to bring in someone who wouldn’t improve the squad.
When we finally got money from the Carrol sale, It was to late.
I suppose the walue of Carrol should be about £20mill, and the resason the prize went up was Newcastle didn’t want to sell as they had no replacement.
As long as we are not relegated, and I think we will not be, then these money will be reinvested in one or two strikers in the summer. It’s hard to get bargains in the january, especially in the last hours of the window.

pardew never said anything about getting henry, not sure why everyone is having a go at him anyway for trying to get him if he did as he is not that old and i am sure he would have put one past his old club today if we had signed him plus we might of got a bit of recognition from new york.

Gotta think that if RANGER gets his first PL goal soon it will give him a good spark and he`ll hopefully be flyin.
Strikers work on self belief-if you`re scoring the goals will continue to come as you`ll try shots more ofte as you believe you`re gonna score

I think we need players who can score goals directly from set piece..and not just one..those days we had Shearer, Solano and Robert lining up to take free is difficult for GK and defenders to guess who is kicking and which way to go, especially when it is dead centre..

    The current squad? perhaps Benny..
