Alan Pardew had talked a couple of days ago about wanting to keep his top players at Newcastle.
Cheick Tiote – just before hitting the ball like a missile into the net
And Alan specifically said the next one that could leave in the summer is Cheick Tiote, and the Tyneside club may have difficulty holding onto their star Ivory Coast International.
And news today that Chelsea will renew their interest in the holding midfielder in the summer, after trying to get him from Newcastle in the January transfer window.
The News of the World is reporting that money came in during January for Tiote, but Newcastle turned down the bids for the 24 year-old, who has quickly become a big favorite on Tyneside.
Cheick scored the goal of the season for Newcastle yesterday afternoon, to dramatically snatch a 4-4 draw for Newcastle, after they had been down 4-0 after just 25 minutes against Arsenal and completely outplayed in that first half.
That was Tiote’s first ever goal for Newcastle, but somehow the famous Tyneside club has to hold onto pearls like this lad.
The news is that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich asked Newcastle to name their price, but Newcastle resisted the advances, but we expect some huge transfers to be made in the summer, because next season is when the Financial Fair Rules go into effect for European clubs.
Then any transfer paid out by a club, will have to come from the revenues generated at the club, and not from the pockets of billionaire owners shelling out the money.
It could even be another painful window for Newcastle fans this summer, if the side loses any more of its top players, but Newcastle will be doing some significant buying of their own – or at least we hope they will.
But surely Newcastle will give Cheick a new contract to keep him at the club, but then of course a huge bid can always come in – that the club cannot turn down.
When is football going to stop top clubs buying up all the top players – and put a little more competition into the game?
And did you notice how I got through this article without even mentioning Andy Carroll – whoops!

Comment #41Tiote’s style of play does not at all fit in with how Chelsea play the game. The Chelsea players are much faster than the Geordies and they would be losing that advantage while Cheick dances around with the ball. This is not to say Tiote is not a fine, fine player, just that he is not cut to the Chelsea mold.

Comment #42If he hands in a transfer request and we have no choice again, £25m + Sturridge + van Aanholt would be good.

Comment #43Hopefully in the future the UEFA rule for fair financial rule will stop clubs like chealsea screwing over every other club.

Cheick no doubt will be a Chelse player in the summer with Cashley accepting another huge offer.
What a goal though!!!

Comment #44Wen the new uefa rules come in, if we’ve sold some big players (I don’t want to and hate Ashley circa saving us from fat Fred) we would have 35+ mil for Carroll and whatever for tiote etc yes I know the whole downsides etc, but could some of these other clubs compete with us? As they cannot use the owners money only generated income/sales so we would or should have a hefty sum to “invest” unless Ashley pursues his other hobby- Greggs

Comment #45What will happen is the imperative of qualifying for the Champions League will be even greater and the top sides will squeeze a bigger amount from that competition to ensure the gap is maintained.
What next with this circus – are we to hope Ranger only has a modest end to the season so he doesn’t get taken from Newcastle by a ‘Big Club’ in the summer? Or maybe Cheick will break his leg on the final game of the season?
Sooner or later Cashley has to say ‘no means no’ not, ‘no means more’.
And if ‘profit from player sales’ can be carried over, you could argue there’s money from Martins, Milner, Duff and Given that can be added to Carroll’s fee – IF the owner didn’t pay himself back for costs. And who is to say that won’t happen to the 35 million from Liverpool?

Comment #47all of you that are slagging off carroll couldnt be anymore wrong. why do you think all pundits and managers believe him over fat ashley?? i was with andy on sat night in newcastle and he knew then that he was being sold yet liverpool say they didnt bid till the final day. how did andy know then? also, havent you seen that liverpool have said the price for torres was set by how much we wanted for carroll but they had already said 50 million before we knew they wanted carroll so maybe, if you look at the facts, all it was, was ashley wanting the money and telling him to go.

Comment #48Brain dead @ #26 after having spent aprox 300 mill please do tell me where the profit is???????
Ashley will only be in profit when the value of the club exceeds the money he has already spent, understanding this concept is what makes Ashley the multi millionaire as he is only worth around 700 mill at the moment.

Comment #491. Won’t be suprized if he is gone in the summer.
2. Tiote, Barton, Jose – more important then Carus or Cabul, you know, th guy that we sold a week ago.
3. The news about the Mexican dude, not true until it is confirmed that it is true.
4. No news about Best – those are good news
5. News that we are after the brazilian free agent, forgot the name. Nice news.
6. Happy after yesterday. Would be histarical if it was 5-4 in the end for us.
7. I think the team added couple of thousands of fans last night worldwide. People love the underdog.

Comment #51I guess that if anyone comes in with big money he’ll be gone. Especially if that somebody can offer Champs League football. This is so gutting it’s hard to stomach so I hold on to these 2 hopes:
1. He won’t be guaranteed a starting place so maybe that’ll put him off?
2. If they buy him in the summer, that WILL affect their UEFA financial fair play commitments (starts financial year ending 2012 – i.e from April this year). Deals that are already done are a grey area becaue the purchase price may not count, but the wages will. (So ManCity are already screwed because ignoring purchase price, their wage bill breaks the rules – Champions League is a MUST for City this year or they have no way of meeting the rules.)
Therefore, unless they sell first (or plan big sales within the next year or so), they won’t be able to spend more silly money.
This, of course, assumes they don’t have a way round the rules and that the rules end up amounting to anything significant – which is debatable but I strongly hope they do.
So let’s all cross our fingers that UEFA comes to our rescue. Haha ;o)

The reason anyone could prefer to buy us could be that one of the following are taken
1. man u the best team in the world (at least reckoned to be) taken
2. man city the richest team taken
3. Liverpool the biggest thieves in the world taken
4. Arsenal the biggest wingers in the world £700m.
5. Tottenham the biggest pretenders need stadium cost & £500m
6. Newcastle greatest fans in the world cost £240m + £160m redevelopment cost south stand & east corner.
7. the rest too small or play in mueums.
