Alan Pardew could well go down at Newcastle, for giving the most inspiring half time team talk of any manager for years and years, and my word – did it have the desired effect!
Alan Pardew – fantastic team talk at half-time
We can never call Alan Pardew a soft manager – ever – as he tore into his players at half time and told them they couldn’t sulk in front of the fantastic 51,000 Geordie fans in attendance and he told them to go out there in the second half and show the fans whet the players are about.
Just think – what would you have said at half time – 4-0 down and were being so utterly and completely outclassed it was embarrassing.
Alan Pardew is beginning to earn his stripes at Newcastle and we have to give the man a chance to succeed on Tyneside.
He told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I haven’t been involved in a game that swung so dramatically as a manager or a player.” “What can you say? For 20 minutes we didn’t make a challenge or get a tackle in. We weren’t close to anyone, and they looked quicker, sharper and faster than us.”
“I make no bones about it. We were trying to do our best, but it wasn’t right. We were feeling sorry for ourselves. We were beaten at Fulham, and didn’t play well at times in that game.”
“The second half showed what a force we can be at this club when you put people under pressure, get tight, and get 51,000 Geordies back on your side.”
“It was an unbelievable day, and I thank the fans for staying with us, and most importantly I thank the players for their character and a performance that showed they were lions out there.”
“We made a call at half-time.” “You either sit there and protect the four, and don’t get embarrassed, or you say ‘you know what, we’re going to play the game properly and see what happens’.”
“We said ‘let’s put them under pressure and kicked down the end we like kicking, and let’s go and show what we’re about’.”
“And my God, we did that, and more. It feels like a 4-0 victory, and a special, special day, yet we haven’t won.”
Let’s get behind Alan and the players through the end of the season, and you’ve got to believe that in each of the 6 home games left this season, our lads will be going all out for a win.
If they come out and play with the guts and glory they showed in the second half on Saturday, then 52,000 mad screaming Geordies will be behind them – and that’s worth a couple of goals.
6 home games could mean 18 points and that would give us 49 points for the season, even if we lose all our 7 away games- and we’d be safe.
We are so proud of what the Newcastle United players did in that final 45 minutes on Saturday – so very proud!

Comment #41Newcastle fans have the chance to vote Magpies legend Jackie Milburn into the Ultimate FA Cup XI.
Last month, sports broadcasting network ESPN launched the ESPNsoccernet Cup of Dreams Fan Poll – a survey to establish the all-time FA Cup dream team, manager and overall dream player.
A shortlist has been produced, with Milburn – who bagged 239 goals in 494 games for Newcastle between 1943 and 1957 – among the strikers in contention.
Former St. James’ Park trio Michael Owen, Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish have also been selected for inclusion.
Voting is open until the FA Cup semi-finals, and fans can pick Milburn by visiting http://www.ESPNsoccernet.com.

Comment #42You say you want pardew to earn his credit, yet, even whaen the players say so, you won’t believe he has even started to earn it, if all fans were like dave1961 then pardew could get us into europe, win the league, sign messi and still would not get any credit! He even admitted there was something wrong after last monday, and accepted it wasn’t good enough, yet still gets slated for lying. There is no point in him being here then, let’s make do with no manager, or better still ashley himself can take over, won’t that be great ffs

Comment #44I wonder how many of the people who come on here have ever played football at any decent level. The manager can make a huge difference at half-time if as on Saturday his team is getting spanked. I believe Pardew did make a difference and shook the players out of a lethargic state & got them motivated to at least give it a go.

were you at the game or did you make your opinion from reading on hear, I was at the game I have not at any point blamed Pardew for going 4-0 down its was the ball given away 3 time that lead to goals, bad marking that led to conceding goals, this was a result of the weeks self inflicted troubles, A I would presume at Fulham Pardew was not happy but we were poor 1st & second half, again down to what was going on at the club. I do not have a problem with Pardew, we will get a good idea how he is as a motivator when we don’t have all the negativity going on. yes I feel he played a part in the conspiracy to get Hughton the sack but that is the way football is, never been any honour (plenty of thieves though) I felt at the time that Hughton time had run out, I never felt that Pardew was the best man for the job but I excepted that no one wants to work for Ashley. we will see what Pardew’s like when we play the Blackburn, & Blackpool’s, this is when we will see how good he is, and the reason I was fuming last week was the fact we had not got any new players in, we all had concerns Carroll would be sold, but when we had not bring anyone in I felt no way would we sell Carroll, so many things that went on was so obvious a 10year old child would show more sense, and as we have no chance of a sale in the near future, the only thing that matters is we get 5 more wins as soon as we can, and I will be supporting Pardew as much as the other 11 on the pitch. if it had ended up 4-0 or 8-0 I would have been one of the few to say what’s the Pont in sacking him we tried that one and it does not work, next season will be the time for Pardew as after the weekend we have the momentum to take us to the end of the season, and one final this I don’t think he will have many decisions to make as we are almost down to the 17 players for the squad, but i think we will get to the end of the season just. and finally remember this is just my opinion and if it upsets people that much it might be wise to sit in a bubble for the next few week as its never straight forward supporting the toon.

Comment #52For fks sake dave1961, I’m talking about your absolute refusal to give credit where its due, just because you don’t like pardew. And I also don’t see why being at the game hearing the fans makes your views gospel. Personally, I believe what the players say, otherwise the whole club from top to bottom players included would all be liars. Barton and tiote both said pardew toasted them at half time, and it had a good effect, they know best, they experienced it first hand. Why did you buy a season ticket? Just to find reasons whinge?

exactly , agree 100%, pardew never had a clue what was going on, he didnt know if he wanted a sh..t shave or a haircut, churchhill would have been lost for words in that dressing room at half time , so cum on ed , dont be so naive, when the boy got sent off , it knocked them a bit, they lost concentration, and full marks to the team no more so than joey who sensed they wernt right and went for it Q the fans, fantastic, pardew could have went home if he wanted to,lost, by the way ed, pardew, played 7 points 9 from a poss 21 bordering relagation that, with that ratio we are down he needs to start winning games and fast.

Comment #59I’ve got to say that I was gutted when Pardew gto the job – just like I was when Hughton got it. And I wasn’t the only one to feel that way.
I was also gutted when MA didn’t/couldn’t sell the club before last season. And I wasn’t the only one to feel that way either.
And what happened? CH did a brilliant job, got promotion easily and became a fans favourite.
At the same time MA – who has put £286M of his own cash in unsecured loans to rescue the club from administration (any fan who says he has kept his hands in his pockets is absolutely clueless to the facts) – decided not to sell to local boy Barry Moat (a man who couldn’t beg, steal or borrow the £90M MA wanted).
Result? We went into the Premier League with a half decent squad, a great team spirit and proper financial plan that didn’t include spending ridiculous fees/wages on mercanaries. Nobody held us to ransom in our pre-season transfer dealings – we held other clubs to ransom.
Then MA sacked CH. Stupidity? Or a very sound and very brave decision by an astute guy who is learning the football ropes fast?
I would ask fans this; if Pardew had lost at home to Blackpool, Stoke, Blackburn, drew against Wigan and Fulham and got thrashed 5.1 at Bolton and 3.1 at West Brom – what would they be saying? Because those were CH’s results.
Pardew has played Liverpool, Man City, Spurs and Arsenal at home and lost one (and that unluckily to MC). Take out Stevenage, consider the situation he inherited – and I think he has done absolutely brilliantly.
I also think neither MA nor Pardew wanted to sell AC and proved that by turning down £25M and £30M bids. But £35M FFS? And AC wanted £80K a week to stay? No club other than the Sheiks lot could afford to turn that down – we can build a top 6 team on that money if its spent wisely.
Will Pardew get the money? I believe he will.
Got to say – as a supporter since 1961 – I am WELL happy with the way our club is being run at the moment. Well happy.

your a very generous man if you want to credit AP with the liverpool win, that game had already been planned and tactics discussed, before AP got yhe keys to his office, by his own admission, he was just trying his new seat out in the dug out, that was CH points. It wasnt the fact that he decided not to sell to barry moat , he couldnt sell to him , he had no money to buy it. as for the sacking of CH stupidity or a sound decision , i would go for stupidity, as he knows f..k all about football CH beat everton , arsenal chelsea away , beat the macks 5.1 beat villa 6,0 who was the last manager to do that. with pardew we have seen 2 of the most inept displays by NUFC stevanage and arsenal seen them concede in the last minute twice and gained 9 poins from a possible 21 better managers would be sacked for that imo weve seen the last of that 35m

Comment #67Astoria – MA is paying me the same as you – Sweet FA.
It’s the likes of you who have brainwashed yourself about MA and Pardew.
MA has made three lousy decisions, 1) buying NUFC without doing proper due diligence and finding out that we were near bankrupt (which is why the Hall’s wanted to sell quickly) 2) bringing back Keegan 3) hiring Denis Wise.
Keegan was a washed out manager who only came back because his football acedemy had lost a few million. Yes MA s&%t on him but he should never have brought him back or employed Wise.
Since then MA has learnt fast. I bet YOU didn’t want CH hired as manager – but MA kicked Shearer into touch and hired him. Result – promotion. So MA gets s&%t when things go wrong but its nowt to do with him when the manager he appoints gets us promoted?
And – he has put more (far f…n more) of his own money into NUFC than the Halls, Shepherds or ANY other previous owners. Like it or not pal that is a FACT.
I was gutted when he sacked CH but when you look at the results at home and the shambles at Bolton and WBA (hardly fn Arsenal or Man U) you have to ask if ‘Mr Nice Guy’ CH could cut it the Premier. MA obviously had his doubts and brought in Pardew. I was gutted about that appointment at first – but unlike you and others I haven’t got my head stuck so far up my s%^££er that I can’t see truth for the crap.
Pardew has done a brilliant job so far. He’s obviously got the respect of the players, he is definitely the gaffer (not sure CH was) and he talks sense + he is on F ALL wages.
Football pal is a BUSINESS now – make no mistake about that. MA is learning fast and running NUFC in the right way. That’s my opinion and after 50 years of supporting the Toon I’m fn well entitled to it. I reckon we can get into Europe next season – who would have thought that possible a year ago?
If we get there MA will deserve credit. The likes of you tho will still have you head up your rear saying he’s a scumbag. Won’t you …

Comment #68Stuartno9 – have you ever managed at a senior level?
Pardew spoke to/trained with the players before the Liverpool game. If he had said a few wrong words or came across as MA’s stooge the players would have been knackin on behind his back. Any tactics etc., would have gone out the window.
As for the the two inept displays – yeh Stevenage was crap but we had a ton of injuries, but still crap I accept. What about CH’s SEVEN inept displays that I mentioned above tho? Do they not count? And for FFS we DREW against Arsenal. It wasn’t inept!! Have you not heard that a game isn’t over till the whistle blows? It was actually one of the GREATEST ever 45 minute performances by a Toon team.
Stop being negative, whinging, and sarcastic and give credit where credit is due. Pardew has done brilliantly – he is no coward or shirker thats for sure. And neither IMO is MA.

This is where you show your blinkered bias and lack of management nous.
He’s beat Liverpool, drawn to Spurs, Arsenal and the Scum away and done that without either Carroll or Tiote and sometimes both – our two most influential players this season. But for two last minute goals there would have been two more wins.
He’s also managed one of the most difficult ever managerial takeovers with great dignity and honesty and immediately won the respect of the players and staff – as Nolan, Barton, Harper and John Carver have all stated.
Not bad for 10 games in charge.
But of course blinkered negs like you who took an instant dislike to him will ignore all of that.

There’s only one muppet in this issue – you pal. MA hasn’t brainwashed me I just look at the facts not BS opinions – it’s you that’s brainwashed yasell.
If CH is so good and had a winning mentality how come we couldn’t beat Blackpool, Stoke, Blackburn or Wigan at home and got thrashed at Bolton and West Brom. Answer that.
I’m more than happy MA isn’t listening to the likes of you – the last time he did that he appointed Keegan.
I’ve said earlier – I didn’t want Pardew in – I thought he was U.S. But watching and listening to him I think he has done a bloody good job – and I’m not so far up my own rs that I won’t give the man credit where its due.
MA is IMO also doing a damn good job of sorting NUFC out and making us financially stable – which most Premier clubs (and most others) are definitely not. The Hall’s & Fat Freddy nearly bankrupted this club by hocking us with debt and fat salaries for lazy bstads who only gave us a buzz when they signed – not when they played.
You’ve got your opinions pal and your entitled to them – just as I am to mine. In 50 years supporting this club I’ve seen them win the Fairs Cup and F ALL else – F ALL domestically in 50 years!! So don’t lay the blame at MA’s door.
And – if Keegan had a real winning mentality we would have won the league instead of panicking, collapsing and throwing away a 10 point lead. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Don’t give me Keegan and ‘great football’ and all that. We won F ALL.
My greatest days as a Toon supporter were watching us beat Ujpest Dozsa 3.0 at SJP in the first leg of the Fair Cup final and listening on the radio to the 2nd leg when we bashed them in the 2nd half.
That team hoofed the ball up Wimbledon style to big Wyn Davies who knocked it down for liitle Pop Robson.
Entertainment? If I want that I’ll go the flicks, the Bigg Market or put a porn channel on. I go to watch NUFC for one reason and one reason only – TO SEE US WIN.
And I couldn’t give a flying F if we do that playing crap football with a goal against the run of play in off a defenders rs in the last minute. Because I’ll tell you what – me and 50,000 others will still be off our feet screaming.
Far better than getting beat 4.3 off Liverpool in Keegan’s time. Exciting football? Not for me it wasn’t. It was the most gut wrenching, heart aching ‘here we go blowing the title’ 90 minutes of football I’ve watched. As were the games after that.
If we can win and play great football – champion. But I’ll take winning and playing crap football EVERY time.
