Good News On Leon Best And Shola Ameobi

Good news today that Leon Best is expected to be fit to start at Blackburn on Saturday, and there is further good news today on Shola Ameobi.

Shola Ameobi – operation yesterday – prognosis good!

Yes, we know this may be a surprise and rather unexpected for Newcastle United – good news that is – but there’s some definite good news today.

It seems that both Leon Best and Nile Ranger picked up knocks in the amazing game last Saturday afternoon, but both will train tomorrow and will be fit for the game at Blackburn.

Peter Lovenkrands is also fit,  so Newcastle have three strikers fit, and there is more good news about Shola Ameobi, who broke his cheekbone at Fulham last Wednesday.

Shola was operated on yesterday, and the news from the Newcastle Journal this morning,  is that Newcastle now expect him to be fit to play, long before the two months that was first put out.

So the good news today may have an effect on whether Newcastle bring in a free agent striker, and of course Frenchman, Jeremie Aliadiere,  has been in talks with Newcastle, and we’d be very surprised if Jeremie or the Brazilian striker, Ewerthon, are not signed through the end of the season.

This is what Alan Pardew said today:

“Both Nile and Leon are due to train again on Thursday without any problems and that is obviously a bonus for us as we are short.”

“We are still looking to see if we can sign somebody to beef us up a bit in that area. We are going to make a decision on Wednesday as to whether there is anyone available who can do that.”

“If all goes well, we could even have somebody in by the time we play Blackburn at the weekend and, failing that, for the trip to Birmingham City on Tuesday night.”

“There aren’t many to choose from on the free agent list as you can imagine, but we have done the necessary research and now we are about to make a decision on whether we are going to do something.”

So it looks like today is D day on the free agents, but we would think bringing Jeremie Aliadiere in through the end of the season would be a good move .

And with Shola hopefully coming back a lot earlier than that two months, Newcastle should have enough strikers to see the side through to safety this season.

And that’s all we are looking for this season – safety.

Howay The Lads!!

I would prefer Ewerthon to Jeremie Aliadiere. In 2008/2009 Ewerthon was scoring 28 goals with Real Zaragoza. Aliadiere scoring record is abysmal.

This is good news on Shola, I honestly think he brings more to the team than Best.

I don’t like this horrible rumour about 34 year old injury prone, slow as a donkey Shefqi Kuqi. Why didn’t we just keep Routledge and play him as a striker?

Good news if it stops us going in for Kuqi. If we have to have an emergency signing, then Ewerthon sounds the best bet.

Even then we could play ireland and later Ben Arfa as a second striker.

Good news about the strikers but if the club’s prepared to a gamble on the three being fit for the rest of the season, I’m surprised to say the least.

I would have thought they’d realise that Sod’s law’s sure to prevail…. as it did when Shola was injured immediately after AC’s departure.

As Ed said, it makes sense to plan for the worst and hope for teh best which translates into ‘belt and braces’.

Will these guys ever learn from past mistakes?

This is Sam Stapleton’s agency… smacks of somewhere that would represent Shefki Kuqi if you ask me…

Whoever they bring in, I dont think they will be used that much anyway unless more injurys occur. I think they will be brought in as back up only to Lover, Ameobi, ranger, best etc. I know were down to 3 at the moment and it isnt ideal but the last thing we need is someone like Aliadere as he has proven nothing so far in his career apart from an inability to score.

Saying that, theres not a lot available on free’s. I just have a feeling that eworthon could end up another pancrate although that cracker against watford is still a happy memory!

This Sam Stapleton guy, could he not be an agent that has stepped in to broker a deal and not directly represent the player? you know what some of these agents are like. He probably heard that we were looking for free agents and started to put the feelers out.

@Sinner – Any sources for that?

I’ve got a feeling it’ll be Aliadiere or Kuqi. If Craigcoozy is right and Stapleton is involved, it would look to be Kuqi. He’s heavily involved with Eastern European Footballers.

If it’s Kuqi… well… we’re better off playing Colocinni and Nolan upfront.

Looking at Stapleton’s site, it’s noticeable that apart from one, all the deals involve incoming transfers from Europe.

    Mmmm….

jarra geordie, the link about stapleton suggested he only served 6 months, then had a 12 month bender.

Jarra – ban was for 6 months, 18 months were suspended (i.e. if he’s found guilty of another violation again, he’ll be banned for the 18 months).

Sinner – not exactly reputable. About as reliable as nufcblog 😉 I’m kidding…

Must disagree with post regarding the Best – Ameobi dilemma. If u look at their scoring records ratio u will easily decipher who is a better starter. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a striker miss so many sitters as one of the 2 above.
Lads, please don’t criticise Alia after you’ve seen him in a …reserve game

Both Kuqi and Aliadiere are lucky to still be professional footballers. Nowhere near good enough for the toon.

Ewerhton is by far the best out of the freebies.

I watched him loads of times in La Liga, he’s fast, knows where the back of the net is and will be a very decent impact sub.

Maybe it’s his attitude or wage demands that have seen him not get a club?

No to everyone else’s name being banded about.

Ewerthon is clearly the best shout but hey maybe Best hasn’t been given the proper run in the first team that he so desperately needed, and Shola’s finishing could be improved upon. Ewerthon is a proven striker at a top class level so I say bring the fella in 🙂

We could also be lining up the summer targets we can sign them on pre- contracts, I know its wishful thinking but they do some things the right way. Then something to annoy us.
