In what was another excellent away performance from this good looking Newcastle side tonight,. and manager Alan Pardew was obviously delighted with the performance of his players tonight at St. Andrews.
Alan Pardew – just before KO at St. Andrews tonight – great display!!
Newcastle became only the 5th club in the last two seasons to win at St. Andrews, and to be honest it was a very good win tonight, and the Newcastle side looked extremely competent.
No, it was even better than that- Newcastle looked a good side tonight – once again.
And new manager Alan Pardew described Newcastle’s latest Premier League away victory as the complete away performance, and he’s not far off the truth.
It was really a triumph for Pardew, as the Newcastle side were so much better than Blackburn on Saturday, but had to settle for a 0-0 draw, but not tonight, as goals early in each half rightly gave this good looking Magpies side all 3 points.
Newcastle are now in 9th place in the Premier League, on 35 points from 27 games, one point more than the total points we amassed in our relegation season. And we are just 2 points behind Sunderland with a better goal difference and 4 points behind 6th placed Liverpool, with a better goal difference.
Alan Pardew talked after the game tonight with Sky Sports:
“We defended resolutely and got another clean sheet and suddenly the draws against Arsenal and Blackburn are now really good results on the back of this performance so we’re in good shape.”
And make no mistake – both our current strikers Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best got the job done tonight – with two excellent goals, and you could see how thrilled both lads were after the game – and rightly so.
They’ll get the plaudits in the next few days to be sure – but they will deserve it – they came through for Newcastle when it really mattered, and you cannot ask more than that.
The Serbian striker Zigic may be 6’8″ tall, but as the commentators pointed out in tonight’s game, Best is a much better header of the ball, and he was winning a lot of balls in the air with his great jumping ability.
We’ll have to have a rethink on Leon, after he has proved us wrong tonight. 😀
He again looked a really good striker for Newcastle United and now has 5 PL goals for the side this year!
Alan continued:
“I think the crucial thing was two goals in open play from our two strikers and that’s the lift we’ve needed.”
“Both of them have scored but not only that, one’s had to come off because he’s strained his thigh through sheer hard work, and the other had to be subbed because he couldn’t move anymore .”
“That’s the sort of commitment and effort you want and they’ve got the quality to match.”
It’s true that both Peter and Leon came off, either exhausted or slightly injured, but that was after they had given all they had, for the Newcastle cause tonight.
It was a great Newcastle win tonight,. let’s make no mistake about that, and while we will not get be getting carried away – well not to much anyway – Newcastle again looked a really good side tonight.
Next up is Bolton Wanderers a week on Saturday at St. James’ Park, and there’s no reason why we cannot win that game too – and it would be great to have 52,000 screaming mad Geordies there too – it helps!.

Comment #4I posted the following optimistic forcast for the rest of the season at the begining of the month after the fulham match when things were looking bleak – now things look so much better.
despite injuries we look like a good unit who are earing their pay and our respect – and we have some very good players due back from injury.
next step – four in (1 defender 1 winger 1 CF and a wild card) and four out (RTaylor, Campbell + 2)

Comment #5The games against Bolton & Everton are winable. Anything less than 4 points from these two games would be a worry considering form & injuries to both clubs. Hope the hard work tonight builds up confidence and momentum leading into next game in 11 days time. I think we really need to stop obsessing about the threat of relegation. This season our squad have shown repeatedly that we are exactly where we belong. Let’s hope the fat man digs deep and backs pardew to the tune of 50’million so that we can press European places instead of merely consolidating our league status.

Comment #12We should have a whip round to buy ranger a goal. I’m sure once he gets one he’ll be off and running.
But great performance all round. Hope Jose gets out of fannying about on the ball in dangerous areas, though

Comment #13I don,t need to remind you lot that there at least four or five of our first team who may be moving on in the summer!
Tiote, Enrique, Barton, Nolan and maybe Krul are all in the sights of other clubs. I don,t trust the owners not to cash in come the time!
Hopefully we,ll be safe soon and the Bull and Barton will sign new contracts!
But don,t hold your breath.

Comment #16Pardew did well last night, if he keeps this going he might get on my Christmas card list. I am starting to dislike him less, the more time goes by. if one day he’s liked by all he will get to this point by his hard work & I would guess it will mean that much more to him.
