Newcastle Pursuing Croatian International Play-Maker

It’s anybody’s guess just who Newcastle will be after in the summer, but since the Tyneside club has money to be spend, the club will definitely be bringing in some players, and of course we’ll be linked with hundreds more, that we are said to be after.

Milan Badelj – 21 year-old Croatian bidding star

And with that in mind, there is a report out today that both Tottenham and Newcastle are targeting the  Dinamo Zagreb star Milan Badelj.

The 21-year-old Zagreb, Yugoslavian born play-maker, is having a really good season in the Croatian Premier League, and of course he fits the profile perfectly of players owner Mike Ashley wants to bring to Newcastle.

The player, who turns 22 next week, has played for all the Croatian youth sides through U21 for a grand total of 54 times. and currently has two full caps for Croatia.

The report suggests that Italian club Lazio and German club Bayer Leverkusen were interested in the player last month, but Zagreb didn’t want to let him go until the summer, but it seems they will let the lad leave his home-town club this summer.

Reports in Croatia are suggesting that Newcastle and Spurs have both been keeping tabs on Badelj, but of course Newcastle, with money to spend this summer, will be linked with anybody and everybody who is available, from anywhere. 😀

But the asking price of £3.5M, looks to be a decent price for such a young and seemingly very promising player.

Zagreb officials have already said they have received inquiries about the 6’1″ central midfielder, who so far has played 84 times with 19 goals for Dinamo, and played 28 times with 7 goals for Locomotiva, while on loan during the 2007-2008 season.

He joined the Zagreb club in 2007, when just 17 years old.

This player would seem like a good signing for the Newcastle club, from what we can tell of his record.

If there are any Croatian readers, or those who have seen this lad play, maybe they can offer more information on how good Milan is.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Could be a very good player for us. For that price he is up for grabs and we should be in.

Does anyone else reckon we should look into Felipe Caicedo???? Has had a wonderful season for Levante so far, has PL-experience and would not qualify for a starting 11 at city. I think he is on the way out and we could really get a bargain here.

Think about Gervinho -Caicedo up top!

What would this say to the youngsters coming through the ranks (Vuckic in particular)??. Have plenty of central midfielders, would rather spend the money on a good up and coming CF like Sturridge (looks class in the 3 games he’s played at bolton – not really gonna get a look in at chelski now torres is there).

Also Gervinho would be nice alongside another right sided winger……

Stop talking about sturridge as he is the messias… He’s good but he hasn’t really proven anything yet. I think Ranger will be so much better than him

I dont get it, every player we are associated with is a midfielder ?
With guys like BA & Ireland, Joey ,Nolan & Tiote , plus Jonas.
Ok a bit of depth with quality players is great, but I get the feeling we may be getting ready to unload those highly compensated players, for cheaper replacements.
Though I hope its the Smith`s, Guthries and Raylors who leave instead.
It`s up front and in defense where we need help.
Who apart from Perch can fill in at either full back spot and i dont wanna hear Ferguson, kids not ready.
Perhaps as El Toro is`nt interested in a contract extension right now (so we have been told) his head may have been turned.
In which case there could be a repeat of the “what`s is name” sale with no replacement.
Hey once these guys see the money, seems they never saw a transfer fee they did`nt like.
Then what do i know ?

Crying, screaming and pulling hair out (if I had any). I thought when the transfer window was closed the daily speculation would end. But no it just goes on and on and on and and and.

This is from my Croatian friend who supports Dinamo Zagreb:

“He’s ok, he has good potential but he’s still young so plays hot and cold a lot, sometimes hes great but at other times he does nothing and I doubt Dinamo will sell him since he is the most valuable player, unless you want to pay a lot of money”

Pure speculation, but it would make sense to bring in a player of his age to replace Nolan in a couple of year time and compete with Vuckic, can’t really go wrong for 3.5m. I’m hoping that’s the plan anyway and that the board don’t see this as Tiote’s replacement.

Here is Croatian fan of NUFC obviously :).I can speak few words about this player Badelj. So,in my honest opinion he IS good player, but I think not good enough for Newcastle. The positions he can cover is postion on right wing and postion on central midfield. He has good tehnique (SP?),but he is not so good at duel and he is not that fast, especially for Premier Leaugue.Bottom line is:he has talent, but would he add some quality to squad and acutally make some difference?I think not.IMO Tiote is much better player than Badelj.
Also,I would rather recommend Niko Kranj?ar instead.

I think it is important that we shop outside of the Premier League. The prices here are ridiculous.

Look how much we paid for Tioté. I bet we could sell him for at least 4-5 times of what we paid for him. Not a bad return after only a year.

That just shows how important scouting is. Its important that we get players that has not been mentioned by the news papers as being linked with…. That makes them too expensive.

There are several Champions League clubs with very good players from the “smaller” leagues that can be gotten for between 2-4 mil each that is where we should look.

Tioté was champion with Twente in Holland we got him for i believe 3,5!… In comparrison we paid 7-8 mil for Stephen Smith and his wages are insane!

This fella is an incredible talent. Closest I would say he is to Fabregas in his style, good vision, picks a pass very well, always on the move. 3.5m for him is a good price.

Off topic but What think ?

Heres some mail I sent to Real Radio as it’s now getting totally out of hand with Mick Horseswill slagging the town off at every turn.

The producer is also a Mackem. Horseswill even has his Daughter answering the phone

Almost every call is from Sunderlan** Fan’s and He is in total denial about the yob fans invading the pitch. also remember the Middlesbrough disabled supporters bus? ..and the two police officers that were hit on the head with wall bricks from the scum supporters at the stadium of Shay getting attacked in the goalmouth and that happening again with the attack on Steve Harper.. The FA dont seem to be taking any action ..and 2 years ago Horsewill was defending their fans after the pitch invasion at the stadium of plight ..

HE will defend them upto the time someone gets killed with one of their Bricks …

What will he say when that happens? .
The man is an Idiot .
    HEre’s the email

Dear Malcolm, could you ask Mr Horsewill If he has ever had a meeting with Sunderland football club with any official of that club over his roll on Real Radio’s 3 legends show

And also has he ever been offered a wage or a payment to represent Sunderland in a positive way on Real radio, or had a holiday or freebies in any way …to be an unofficial behind closed doors representitive of Sunderland football club in his roll on Real Radio…Bob Murray tried to co-erse Eric Gates into that underhanded roll And Eric told us the story on century radio when Bob took him for dinner ,,Eric walked out of the dinner ..remember ? and would not compromise his his roll on century radio as it was at the time.

IT seems that Sunderla*d football club has the Sunderl*nd echo in it’s pocket now . Is the same thing now happening to Real radio?

Mick Horsewill is the Charver of the Airways and he is dragging Real Radio down with his Bad Behavior…Its Now the Sunderland Show

Funny how someone said we should sell Jonas.. He is soo creative and his crossing has been good in the past couple of games! (he assisted both goals tonight!) Also , he plays very well down the left with Jose, probably where most of our goals come from! Anyway, my team after the summer transfer market would be (realistically) ..

    ……………Ben Arfa………..Gervinho

There’s central midfielders and then there’s playmakers. This kid looks like he could be another Fabregas, he can certainly pick a pass and his touch is sublime.

Seen some clips from the Croatian League but not quite sure about the standard of play as Dinamo seem to win most things. However if Charlie Adam is off to the red bin dippers for £10+ m then this fella is worth that at least.
