Jose Enrique Opens The Door To Leaving Newcastle

Some worrying words from Jose Enrique this morning,  as he says he’s flattered to be attracting interest from some big English clubs.

Jose Enrique – flattered by interest from big clubs

Usually that is a “come and get me” communication to the interested clubs, so it’s a little worrying to hear those words from the Newcastle star left-back today.

This is what Jose said today:

“It is flattering that Liverpool are interested. I’ve also heard that Manchester United and Aston Villa have asked about me,”

“They are both big teams and I’m not closing the door on anyone. I’m ambitious and want to play in the Champions League. I want to win things.”

“I’m OK at Newcastle but I aspire to more.”

I’m OK at Newcastle but aspire to more – what exactly does that mean?

The 25-year-old has been one of Newcastle’s best players this season, and the conventional wisdom is that he would be a lot more appreciated – for instance would get into the Spain National squad – if he was at a more successful club than Newcastle.

We hope it’s not true, but these are definite signs that Jose would be willing to leave Newcastle United, if  one of the big clubs, like  Liverpool or Manchester United for example, came after him in the summer.

That’s only one reason why Newcastle should show they are indeed willing to build a top team, that will soon challenge for Europe, before too many of out top players are snapped up by bigger clubs.

We hope that will not be true, but we don’t regard this statement form Jose as being very positive or helpful, at least from a Newcastle viewpoint.

We suppose one solution is for Newcastle to qualify for Europe this season.

Comments welcome.

good bye jose. no chance of us ‘achieving’ things as far as the fat cis concerned. he’s bought the club as a sole reason to make money and he is successfully doing so. once he makes a good profit of about 100 mil from selling players, he’ll make another 100 from finally selling the club. an asset stripped club without any winning players. and no one will want to buy a club without good players coz no one wants to spend millions in building a squad. sad to see this happen at my beloved toon. makes me want to shed a tear for the fans putting up with this back in the north east coz I am a fan from overseas supporting the club since 7 years now .

Well if this is true NOW is the time to look for a replacement. I he wants to go then let him go, we don’t want players “aspiring to move”.

If True his Attitude is getting worse by the day.

I read on Sky sports Guillem balague saying that we were interested in JOSE Angel of Sporting Gijon and who he thinks will be a better left back than Enrique.

Personally i hope we keep him but if not as that old cliche goes. “everybody has got a price”

Sorry Ghali no points for 2nd place.

It is printed by the daily mail with quote marks from Jose so they may not need a source if they have Jose himself.

I understand where he is coming from. He was bought as a good player not an untried youngster. He stayed with us through relegation and has become twice the player he was when he joined. He knows he could walk into any team in the premiership so he finds himself wondering why he is with a team that is selling their best players who has not won a trophy in a long time. Sorry but we cant hold him to Carroll standards. He was not born in Newcastle and he wants success. I think if we buy some good players and show him that we want to succeed as much as he does he will sign another contract but lts face it. Contracts are meaningless except they get you more money.

I can understand for ManU but for Liverpool ? what the fuxx ! If Jose think they can go UCL within 2-3 years, he has to think again. Nowaday there are not too much different between them, us, Mckems, Everton or Aston villa. No top 4 anymore.

Jose needs to stay at newcastle, he is one of our best players if not the best !

hope pardew persuades him to do the best thing and sign a new contact.

Mike Ashley needs to spend big in the summer and bring in quality players.

I believe jose will stay if we promise to spend big and offer a good contract.

CANT BELIEVE THE STATEMENT ABOUT VILLA BEING A BIG CLUB… lol

Well all I can say is we need to start TALKS with Jose to try and keep him at the club, if we don’t we won’t get much for him as he is nearly out of contract! We do however only want players here that want to be here, to help NUFC get to europe!! So if you seriously want to player champions league then help us get there ENRIQUE!!!

A footballer’s career is short and he would be stupid not to make the most of his talent while he can especially in the ages 25-29 – before that he is establishing himself, after that he has a couple of years swan song – and allways there is the problem of injury. I would not blame any player seeking to leave NUFC, and if he has been hardworking , honest and loyal upto that point I would wish him well.
Look at the medals won by Andy Cole – in that time no one won anything with NUFC! The only thing they tell me we won was the Inter ToTo cup – then we found out it didn’t actualy bloody exist! Just like our management’s ambition!
I hope we have a good policy and plan to develop success (I have to hope cos I can’t read one) but I have a bad feeling that our only aim is stability and profitability.

Would also like to know the source of Jose’s comments. Villa a big team? Liverpool a bigger team than NUFC? Which league are you playing in Jose? In terms of home crowds and potential to go places you are already playing for one of britain’s biggest teams!!! Think on it Jose. We have two home games comng against Bolton and Everton. This could give us 41 points. Our mackem neighbours have two away games coming against Everton and Arsenal. So Jose we can leapfrog them very soon too. If we keep up our present performances we can get a Europe place. Want to go places, want to play in Europe Jose? Then play for us and not some team who have 10,000 fewer fans watching you than at St James. Sadly if you aspire to wear a red shirt – a rather common attire – then perhaps we must look for a player who prefers black and white stripes. Hope this is just another media wind up.

Start talks with Chelsea and get Van Arnholt deal in the pipeline immediatley as these comments mean one thing only and frankly who can blame him.
I said selling Carrol was good money however tells the squad that we have no ambitions to reach the top.

Enriqure is good player but I think everyone is bigging him up just a bit to much, dont get me wrong i love the lad and he has a big future but he still makes mistakes i.e. the duff goal and he got caught twice on tuesday nearly costing us, and for a attacking full back howmany goals/assists has he got this season? If he wants to leave, which I doubt he really does, let him, and that goes for any of our players. How come we have this fantasitc spirt at the club if everyone wants out? I think press will keep on naming our players for moves away as long as we are worth talking about thats what they do. If we stay up then im sure new and improved contracts will be offerd to those that deserve them and not before, which would be stupid really cos you cant pay top wages in the championship as we already know.

    NO WAY JOSE!

The lad must be getting disillusioned (with the board) at the Toon must like many fans only he has the option of changing clubs ?

We will stuggle to bring in anyone as good as Jose is as good as ANY LB in the world at the moment and still only 25; is it any wonder the top clubs are after him?

Seems like yesterday when Jose and Carrol were saying that they want to stay at NUFC for the rest of their careers. How are we supposed to improve and break the “top 4” when all the best players move at the first chance. Its hopeless, 6 Nations anyone. :s

Enrique is getting a bit too big headed; we need someone to bring him back to earth, he’s a top player but he needs to realise his future is at Newcastle will all off his Latino cameo.

Anyway, this can’t be Enrique his English isn’t even that good unless he used a translator.

I know Enrique reads this blog so all we can say is: Enrique don’t go!

To echo what Dalglish said about Liverpool… “the club is bigger than any 1 player”, you cannot blame Enrique for wanting to play in the Champions League, if we get £15-£20m for someone we signed for £6.5 then so be it. The club will move on, and still be here when both Carroll & Enrique are long gone & retired. But i also agree with Bartons words today that money has to be re-invested. To be fair i think Ashley has begun to redeem himself, we are 9th, have a good squad who work for each other, money to spend in the summer & on a safe financial footing. Also, he took the wrath for sacking Hughton, which i didnt agree with, and appointed Pardew despite the backlash from the fans, and IMO Pardew is doing a fantastic job. Lets be positive, it’s inevitable we will lose good players as our best hope is Europa League in the next 5-10 years, but if we get good money for them and it is invested wisely we will only get better & better.

Enrique might end up like a Bernard. Bernard was brilliant at the Toon. He got greedy, could not agree terms ended up leaving and his career went down the pan. Although the big clibs where not sniffing around Bernard. This club is heading down the road of a selling club. We can not keep our best players. Tiote, Enrique, Barton,Colo and a few others have the potential to get us into Europe but because the players hear very little from the board they do not know where they stand. Ashley should be holding meetings with the payers telling them his ambition for the club and that the money made from the Carroll sale will be invested in the summer on players that will add class to the squad and hopefully push us on to bigger and better things BUT he does not do that and does that mean Ashley has no ambition for the club and only wants to bring in cheap and sell on for a huge profit?????

Calm down people… just because he says a few words doesn’t mean he wants to leave. Please wait until the summer and see what happens before you start moaning- he’s still our player right now (the best one if i may add). Don’t start hating or spread negativity from the things you ASSUME will gonna happen, seriously.

Look, if you had followed him on twitter, you will know that his English is not that good- so maybe he’s saying it without much thought. Besides, it’s normal for professional footballers to say that in the media, due to respect for other clubs.

Of course he wants to aspire more- all footballers want to win trophies. He’s not stupid, he knows we have 35 mil to spend, and will assess his options in the summer. If we can spend it wisely, I think he will more than likely stay with us. And yes, i think Pardew will be given money to spend that money.

zangwill_ho – he stayed and fought during our relegation season. Jose’s a decent, down to earth lad who understandably wants to make the most of his career – he’s never let us down in terms of effort or loyalty up to now. I would accept his request to move to a CL side – albeit with sadness. Just hope it isn’t to Liverpool or Villa.

Let’s not damn him to hell just yet.
