Newcastle Reported After Portuguese International Defender

News today that Newcastle United and Aston Villa are both interested in Valencia full-back Miguel – full name Luís Miguel Brito Garcia Monteiro.

Miguel – 31 year-old Portuguese right back

Valencia have put the 31 year-old defender, who has been capped 59 times for Portugal, up for transfer, which is supposed to have  alerted the two Premier League sides.

The news is that Aston Villa and Newcastle have been following the player for some time now.

Miguel started his career at Estrela Amadora in 1998, and two years later joined Benfica, and then in 2005 joined Valencia for around £6M.

Indeed we remember Bobby Robson bring interested in this player about 7 years ago, when he was still at Benfica, but it’s hard to believe Newcastle would be interested in a 31 year-old, whose sell-on value would be close to zippo.

The Lisbon-born player usually plays at right back and is 5’10” tall, and has now played over 150 times for Valencia, but we’d be very surprised if Newcastle are really interested in him.

He is said to be available for around £3M, but we think there are some other good full-backs, who are younger, who would be better buys for the Newcastle club.

And since everybody knows Newcastle have £35M from the sale of Andy Carroll, we will be linked with almost every single player available this summer – so it will be a lot worse – or a lot better –  whichever way you want to look at it. 😀

Too old and to be honest not that great either.

We should be looking at players like
    Gonzalo Pineda or Fausto Pinto
Both players are Mexican and very talented and should cost us no more than 3Million each

I hate to say it as i really like Simmo but i think he has reached his potential, he is definately the best we have got but for the team to progress we need to bring in somebody better to replace Simmo or to make Simmo relise he has gotta to be better than he is now. Its a tough world out there but you need to be on top of your game at all times to be known as a great player. The same goes for Willo too he has been lucky last few weeks that Colo has been there to tidy up his mistakes.

hmm… im still confident about simpson, but with a upcoming young right back (say, as good as van aanholt) breathing down his neck, it’ll improve him, and help the team in general… that’s why we need a pinto or a pineda in this summer… and if simmo doenst improve, we’ve still got a great RB!

No thanks im sorry but Ashley would never pay a 31 year old anything over 10k and Miguels on like 60k he will NEVER accept a player like that.

I also think he isnt that good and too old.

We must have been interested in him for a long time if he’s 31.

pacey .. quite good RB .. although 31 is old but maybe he’d be good as a squad player … 3mill is also a bit much..

I heard Pardew want to wait a while with this signing as he want’s too see how the players develops.

“He’s got loads of potential, and could be one for the future”, Pardew said

“We will scout him for a few more years to be sure we have the right man” he added.

Simpson has steadily improved. Why would we bring in a 31 year old? Doesn’t make sense, don’t believe it.

    Instead we got S Carr…

I would like to get Matthews (Welsh) from Cardiff or Clyne (English) from Crystal Palace to back Simpson up and give him a challenge.

I seem to recall Sir Bobby was after this bloke? If he hasn’t come over before now he can do one.
