Best Looks The Part At Newcastle – But Must Keep Scoring

Leon Best has done well since coming into the Newcastle first team,  with a good 5 goals in his first 7 games.

Leon Best – in action against Blackburn

Leon will get another chance tomorrow against Bolton, to bang in a  goal or two in a game that could be a water-shed for Newcastle ,because a win will take Newcastle up to at least 8th place in the league and will leapfrog above Bolton.

Best told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I’m getting a good run now, but compare it to last season – the other strikers were in and taking their chances.”

“Now I have to do the same as they were last season.” “I’ve had setbacks, but myself and Peter Lovenkrands are doing a good job now.”

“The manager has confidence in me and that’s a big bonus for any player.” “I’ve got my chance, but I need to keep taking it.”

“If the chances come along I’ve got to keep scoring them.” ““It has worked out OK now.

“There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Injuries are hard but now I feel fresh going into the last 11 games.”

Leon is doing himself no harm at all, and with his goals for Newcastle, his value in the transfer market (and to Newcastle) has risen, since he has shown he can score goals – and good goals too – in England’s top league.

Indeed the way Leon fares through the rest of the season could well be how Newcastle do, because obviously we need somebody to bang in the goals in each game, if we are to win them.

We couldn’t do that against Blackburn, and it cost us 2 points, even though we dominated the game as much as we did at Birmingham, when both Leon and Peter scored, and we won that one very comfortably 2-0.

Leon continued:

“The strikers who are coming in are stepping in to do a job.” “Nile did great when he came on at Birmingham.” “And Peter is just cracking away with the goals too.”

Every goal Newcastle score from mow on will be vital for our season, because with the defense playing so much better these days,  we are hoping one goal in a game could amount to all 3 points.

And we have to admit that Newcastle have a decent chance of making a Europa League place this season, with a little luck – but don’t mention that to Alan or the players. 😀

Best seems like a good genuine lad and I’m very pleased he has done so well – he deserves his chance and it is up to him to take it, if it works out then the job’s his – but we can’t repeat the shola pattern of upteen chances in two years! We need a proven quality no.9 before the start of next season – so Bestie take your chance or we buy a goal scorer!

If Best & Shola can’t prove their worth this season then the sensible thing to to is wish them well and find them a championship club where they will florish & be successful – and probably happier.

I’m not expecting a 2 goal win this weekend. Probably be a very attacking match as both Pardew and Coyle like there attacking football. I’ll go for an entertaining 3-2! Tiote to score aswell, hopefully! Very good to see Ashley signing him up on a long term deal as he is the kind of player that will take this club to the next level. I am dreading next year though as he will be away for a month or 2 with the African nations. Hope to god we have sold Smith by then, i couldn’t bare 2 months of Smith playing!

    NUFC 3 Bolton 1

NUFC: Jose, and Barton (pen); both signing new contracts immidiately after.
Elmander own goal, claiming its the first of many goals he will score for newcastle.

BW: Sturridge; apologising afterwards; saying he was just trying to impress Pardew so we’ll sign him in the summer.

Great that tiotes signed. Puts us in a position of power if nothing else. Worst case scenarios he says in the summer i’m off and we say you’ve just signed six year deal either we let him play for another three before getting our money back or it’ll take a huge bid ala carroll. The carver news is just important for me, gives us two geordies in the mix around the irst team. stone/carver and beardsley with the youth team. Can only be a good thing.

I think Best needs to be judged over a whole season and against better competition than the likes of West Ham and Birmingham (accounting for 4 of his goals). He tends to disappear against the better teams. Surely not the number 9 shirt for him. We definitely need 1 or 2 strikers in the summer. Peter is already 31 and probably time to move him on so make it 2 strikers. We should be strong in the midfield next season but we must get a good goal scorer and probably a left back as well if negotiations with Jose don’t work out.

Best has really played his part in the “post Carroll” period. His display against Arsenal was brilliant! Got one penalty, scored one (another one disallowed wrongfully). Scored a nice header against B’ham, and has in general looked strong and sharp. Hats off to Leon Best! All of u
