Breaking News – Tiote Signs New Six Year Deal At Newcastle

There is a piece of really good news for Newcastle fans this morning, that Newcastle United have confirmed on their web-site,  that midfielder Cheick Tiote has signed a new six-and-a-half year contract with the club.

Cheick Tiote with manager Pardew – signs to stay until summer of 2017

This is great news for fans, and the deal is said to be worth around £50K/week to the Ivory Coast International.

Tiote only joined the club last summer, but is already in Geordie folklore for scoring one of the greatest goals seen at St. James’ Park, when he equalized in that very famous comeback against Arsenal a few weeks back.

The video clip of that goal will be famous for years and years to come!

We didn’t even know Newcastle were in negotiations with the player on a new contract, as we all know there has been a hitch in the negotiations with Joey Barton, but maybe this can provide the momentum for our other good players – like Joey and Jose –  to sign on and stay on Tyneside.

We certainly hope so.

Tiote said today:

“I am very happy today to have signed this new deal with Newcastle United.”

“The experience of playing in the Premier League has been better than I ever hoped it could be.”

“This is a great club and the fans have been brilliant – I have never known support like it.”

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew added:

“Cheick has been immense for us this season and is exactly the type of player I want in my squad. He is fantastic on the pitch and in the changing room and is vital for everything we want to achieve.”

“Cheick offers us strength and presence in midfield and has proved himself to be one of the best in his position in the Premier League.”

“He’s adapted brilliantly to the English game and I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal with us today.”

Really good words from the manager there.

Tiote was a great signing for Newcastle last summer for a meager £3.5M from FC Twente, and we wouldn’t mind seeing some similar signings this summer.

Cheick  has played magnificently for Newcastle,  and of course Chelsea are already big admirers.

But having tied down the 24 year-old to a long term deal on Tyneside, it will now take a massive bid from Chelsea to dislodge the very popular player from Newcastle.

That could still happen in the summer, as we saw with Andy Carroll, but the chances of that happening are now reduced, and Cheick seems to be made to play for Newcastle and loves it on Tyneside.

For the record Tiote has played 21 times for Newcastle  this season with that very special goal.

This is wonderful news for Cheick, the Newcastle club and the Newcastle fans everywhere, and maybe he can even now bring his family to Newcastle from the troubled Ivory Coast.

We hope that is possible, as we know he sends money back to his brothers and sisters there, which is only one reason he is so loved on Tyneside.

Comments welcome.

Thats the best news in many weeks, for sure.

Now we need to push on and have a crack at getting 7th place and a chance at Europe again? Be such a shame pushing the scum out of the last European place though – we wouldnt do that to them – would we lol.

Excellent, now for Jose and Joey, pushing for Europe, at least finish above the “great unwashed” as I saw someone call them.. Brilliant.

Some sound investments in the summer, think of what the last £10M got us in HBA, Cheik, Willo, Best, Simpson, Gosling, Imagine what Pards/Carr can do with (hopefully) £20-30M!

    Happy days?

Dominant, hard tackling midfield ‘enforcers’ like Tiote are as rare as hen’s teeth. The likes of Viera and Makelele in their prime were almost irreplaceable – and the same will go for Tiote.

Every player has his price – and signing a 6.5 year contract means that price for Tiote I reckon is now £25M+.

We definitely do not want to sell – obviously – but getting Tiote to sign a deal of that length is VERY smart and shows that MA is one shrewd operator.

Another point … the way Jonas’s words have twisted in the Mail to read that players will leave because the club won’t pay big wages is absolute bo%%0x. For once the Sun has got it right – JG is saying he wants to stay, so do the rest of the players, and if the club spends in the Summer we’ll have a cracking squad. EXACTLY!!

Where are all the rants about pardew being a puppet and all that. This just proves that this club might just be the best run club in this league and we have a vision only thing that worries me is the lack of communication between us fans and the NUFC hierachy. And I bet you that there is a buy out clause in this new contract in the region of 25m plus minimum.Very smart move by MA I’m impressed.

Pardew is a proper puppet! I mean, what exactly has he done since he got the job eh?

He signed up Taylor on a new contract, signed up Willo and signed up Tiote.

He’s also got us playing good football and pushing for a european place.

Oh, and he got himself £30m to spend in the summer.

….Oh wait, that would make him class, not a puppet haha!

keep a cheeky smile on your face but keep your feet on the floor. But this is the type of player we need more of, and this contract will make him the happiest man in toon, he’s a great player yes, but more to the point hes a credit to the human race the way he looks after his family, a few of our other players need look no further than this man to see how to run your life.

lads hate to be a boo boy but ashley says he wants to follow the arsenal model this doesnt bode well for joey barton the reason they wont give him a longer deal is cause he wont have any sell on value and wenger always sells players on when the hit the 30 mark i really hope this is not the case as joeys influence has been pivotal but one just cant help be sceptical till joey signs on the doted line heres hoping that im wrong.

HEADLINE….”NEWCASTLE ACTUALLY SIGN A PLAYER!” Bartoon and Bill-Son….this is only the first step in trying to lay foundations for building up a competitive team….we are very reliant on a hardcore of 4/5 players pulling the rest along and although this is undoubtedly good news, it “proves” very little regarding Mike’s masterplan….as you both acknowledge this doesn’t exclude the possibility that he could still be sold (but now for a greater price). I want to see Jose and Barton signed up poste-haste and then actually invest in good NEW players before I even consider the possibility that this guy has a similar interest to the fans……if they hadn’t made it clear to the rest of the world that everyone was available to be bought I may share your enthusiasm….!

Yes Stuart but you can understand the mistrust also can’t you?

Throughout the last window I kept saying that our owner had never sold a player who did not want to go and look what happened on the last day?

I still DO NOT believe AC wanted to leave and if every single person in Newcastle said to me he did, you would still not change my mind. Hence my real worries.

If you’re determined to be cynical though at least you can take solice in the fact his valuation has gone up by at least £10m now that hes signed a new contract haha.

I agree though, I will be breathing a big sigh of relief if it gets to the end of the transfer window and all our key players are still with us.

Dublin Mag Steve…..the “Arsenal model” is just the latest popular phrase to be uttered from our owner….of course, the reality is very different…..the Arse have consistently resisted bids for their best players until Mr Wenger has lined a replacement up and THEN decided the right time to sell (the ongoing Fabregas saga being a current example)….compare that to our sale of AC……
And don’t forget, it wasn’t long ago Ashley and Llambias were wanting us to be modelled on Aston Villa!

solano, mags and other neggers …

You are deluding yourself when you keep harping on about MA ‘selling our best players’.

When he bought the club he gave Allardyce £30M to spend – most of it went on trash, apart from Barton & Enrique – and we paid stupid wages into the bargain for the likes of Viduka on frees + he had Owen’s £115K + other nonsense he inherited.

The only player he sold prior to relegation that could arguably called ‘good’ was Milner – and he got £12M for him. Not many fans complained at the time.

After relegation OF COURSE some players like Bassong wanted to leave – and after the 6.0 defeat pre-season to Orient (?) Nolan, Barton, Harper & Smith told any player not willing to scrap in the Championship to pi$$ off.

So … Bassong, Owen, Martins, Beye etc., leaving wasn’t MA selling ‘good’ players to pi$$ the fans off – it was the reality of being relegated and players not wanting to play for us.

Since MA decided not to sell the club – he has backed Hoots and now Pardew in the transfer market and in renegotiating contracts. Okay, he hasn’t spent alot (because he’s forked out £286M paying off our debts and making us one of the top 6 financially stable clubs in the UK) but he has proven you don’t need to spend £££Millions (Williamson, Tiote, Ben Arfa) to get players FAR BETTER than the ‘trophy signings’ we’ve had before.

So … where is the evidence that MA sells our ‘top players’? Andy Carroll? Yep, he was a top player – for 16 games in the Premier. MA turned down bids of £15M, £25M and £30M. He told LFC the price – £35M and a 25% sell on clause. They paid it.

That to me is GOOD BUSINESS – not WANTING to sell our top players. The price we got for AC was TEN TIMES what we paid for Tiote, SEVEN TIMES what we paid for Ben Arfa and THIRTY FIVE TIMES what we paid for Williamson and Best.

If selling AC allows us to buy 2/3 £5M-£10M players quicker than we could have done – and we buy well – we will have a bigger and better squad.

    MA sells our best players?

It is a ridiculous statement that has absolutely NO foundation.

The only reason Arsenal have been able to resist bids for the best players is because they’re a bigger richer team than us.

We are following the Arsenal model but we’re not big enough/financially secure enough to be exactly like them yet.

Arsenal can resist bids because they’re always in the top 4, always in the champions league.

We did resist bids for Judas from spurs and liverpool. Until liverpool decided to be a football manager team and offer stupid money for him. We also turned down bids for Tiote in January if the papers are to be believed.

In a few years time, if we do stick to the arsenal model we could be a very strong team and should be challenging at least the top 6 consistantly.

    solano @ 30.

Arsenal have been one of the best run and richest clubs in the UK for DECADES man.

They can AFFORD to turn down big money for players + not many want to leave a club like Arsenal.

FFS we (for all we fans love our club) are NUFC.

NUFC who have won sweet fa domestically for 56 years. NUFC who spent ££££££Millions on wages and transfer fees on mostly crap players and where deep in the debt sh*t when MA bought us.

How can you compare us to Arsenal????

Yes, MA wants to ‘model’ us on Arsenal but that doesn’t mean we ARE Arsenal yet. Get a grip man.

Read my post above – selling AC was great business. Whether you like it or agree with it. Thats a FACT.

Sure its great news but only if Ashley commits to building a side and turning down offers for our best players. Didn’t Carroll sign a new long-term deal just months before he was sold to a rival side?

Otherwise it only guarantees a fat fee for Ashley.
Nevertheless, taken with Carver’s extended deal this has to be a good day at SJP. Now to tell Lverpool to get stuffed over Enrique.

Bills-Son i agree 100% with you. But some doesnt get it. Ashly is trying to get ho,d on our best players.Tiote have shown passion and skills on the pitch he deserved a new contract and got it.Ofcourse if some club come and pay alot for him we would sell him,but this time we would have time to get a replacement. The reason we didnt get the replacement for carrol was because liverpool bought him in the last hours of transfer deadline. But like i said before, we will qualify for europe,we will keep enrique and barton and we will spend wisely just wait and see.

To sum up why this news is so great, sorry if people have mentioned already at work and dont have time to read all the comments, is because yesterday Tiote could have left in the summer for 5-15m, today its more like 25-35m..
