Pardew Working Hard To Keep Barton and Enrique On Tyneside

The two players who are giving Newcastle fans a little heartburn right now are Joey Barton and Jose Enrique.

Joey Barton – contract stalemate at Newcastle

It seems that both of them will not negotiate new deals with the Newcastle club until the summer, at the earliest, and both their current deals run out a year come June, and that’s not a good position for the Newcastle club to be in.

It was great news today about Cheick Tiote and coach John Carver, both signing new long term deals at the club and Alan Pardew deflected talking about the specific positions of Barton and Enrique by concentrating on today’s good news with Tiote.

When asked specifically about the futures of  Joey Barton and Jose Enrique, this is what Alan said:

“It’s something we have to resolve.” “We’ve always said that we want to keep our best players.”

“We have to keep trying to do it.” “We’re trying to keep that together.” “Negotiations are never easy.”

“Hopefully we can build on Tiote’s signing with others.” “We had to send out a message and Mike wanted to make that statement.”

“It’s fantastic news for the fans.” “They were hit with the news of Andy.” “But the results since then show it wasn’t all about Andy.”

We have to hope that shortly we’ll get a few more nice surprises – that Joey and Jose have signed new deals at the Newcastle club – or even that we’ve arranged some deals with free agents, to join us in the summer.

Alan has even come out today to say the £35M the club received for Andy Carroll, will be invested back into the club, and that he will definitely be bringing in new players in the summer.

Whether that’s good enough to have Jose and Joey  sign up on the Newcastle band-wagon remains to be seen, but we hope it is.

We’re waiting for positive outcomes on these issues and according to this article, it’s all sorted!

    http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/856599-alan-pardew-newcastle-will-buy-big-money-stars-in-summer

This is a prime example of how the press can transform a commiment to signings into an expectation of big-moey ones!

Aren’t big money stars what we wanted to try and get away from? The likes of Owen, Duff et al? Also no where in that article does it say Pardew will be signing big money stars. Misleading headline if I ever did see one!

I am pretty sure from what Barton has said so far that he wants to stay. He obviously wants to see the kind of statement made by the club today so I am fairly positive about Joey signing. However, I can’t see why the club are offering only a 3 year contract – if indeed that is the case – when Tiote has been given a 6 year deal. Jose on the other hand is a real worry. Liverpool are still living on past glories and are a smidgeon from the wheels falling off altogether but I worry about his agent’s input into this suggested move.

Although Pardew has little really positive to say about the situation with these two I reckon he doesn’t want to be left with egg on his face as he was after the Carroll fiasco. He may talk all he wants about wanting to keep them but there might be circumstances beyond his control which make it impossible. I’m sure that’s why he doesn’t wish to appear too upbeat about negotiations.

Strange offering contracts to Tiote and Carver is this to say, we ARE keeping our best players and trying to make Joey agree to lower contract? we know Jose is leaving OR waiting for the summer to see if we survive, i have faith the love we the fans showed him he wont chuck it back in our faces IF WE AS A CLUB spend the WHOLE money and improve.

I very much doubt we will spend the whole 35 million. We will probably spend about 15-20 and then cruising the free market. I see Celtic have just signed young fullback Adam Mathews on a free, he looked a very good prospect last year and is the type of young player we should’ve been looking at imo

Untill we higher our wage bracket we will struggle to keep and sign good players. if carroll can leave for higher wages and he is a local lad then what makes people think and pardew think we can build

bristolmagpie that point is void from the very start. We have just signed up possibly our BEST player this season on a 6 and a half year deal on a reported 50g a week which is a very competitive wage for the division we are in and the position we are in. Personally I think Jose wants to leave and Barton is probably just making sure we’re safe as he doesn’t want to play in the Fizzy again. Awful awful league! Would you rather we just offer these guys crazy money like we did with previous players? Owen, Martins, Duff etc

Appears Ashley &Co. having screwed up again by not securing Enrique`s contract extension earlier and having insulted Joey with a two year offer, are now panicking.
Sure a five year deal for Tiote is a no brainer and hopefully an example to both that there`s ambition in NUFC`s future.
That plus the fact they are confirming that the Carroll money will be used to bring in re-inforcements.
But do we have to constantly go through this on the job training (for owners & top management)
or do you hire a football guy with a track record ?
Look at who is on the boards of clubs like Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man. U., plus the fact they have savvy managers.
We constantly hear about a five year plan , a salary cap and stuff like wanting to replicate what has been achieved at Arsenal.
But the truth appears to be there`s no real plan at all, only re- acting to circumstance.
Ashley has to make up his mind.
Does he want to sell ?
Does he have any ambition for the side?
    Is mid table acceptable?
When he figures it out, hope he lets us know !

    Good points chuck….

You have to agree though 3 out of 5 of our best players signing long contracts is progress, Barton will sign making it 4, Enrique is touch and go but the platform is being built for us to kick on up the league.

What we are seeing is the £35m being reinvested, so when we make offers for players they know we have spent most of the money on player contracts, so we continue to pay these clubs, really high fees like the Cheick Tiote £3.5m. And when we spend more than the £15m or so we had left then its mike putting in more of his own money in. so what’s the other option we go to clubs and they think we have £35m+ then the £3.5m players then £15-17m, then we get 2 players instead of 5-7 for the same money. That Ashley blokes a genius & certainly nobody’s fool.

sDave 1961 I totally agree with your post. MA is a proven business man running a v successful company making huge turnovers every year. Sports direct made a massive profit this year with it being a WC year through sales of England tops and the like so i wonder if we were to get to Europe would we be in for a surprise? Hope we win something soon i’m sick of not having anything! Would absolutely love to win the Carling Cup! Then again if it means we end up where Birmingham are , relegation scrappers screw that idea!

Hey ED I know you are not mentioning AC in this article but this should make some interesting reading especially to those that think MA was just cashing in.

An apparent quote from the player himself while talking to the Chronicle….

“’I was in talks about a new contract and talking to the gaffer about that”

Now bearing in mind he had just signed a new 5yr deal at the back end of the year why was he trying to renegotiate a new deal.

It looks more and more like the interest from cesspool and other clubs had turned his head and he was trying to hold the club to ransom by trying to renegotiate an even bigger contract just months after signing a five year deal.

If that is the case then MA was spot in getting shot of the money grabber.

Here’s the link how do you read it??

I was never against the club over Carrollgate. What I was angry over was, the fact it was a risk as we did not have a lot left to cover. to avoid this from reoccurring we should look to have back up for every player position, then when we get totally mad offers for players we can sell then have a good laugh about it, almost all agree it was good for the club to take £36m for Carroll, next time we need proper cover, so we can keep moving forward, and those that are critical of the club, this is the place for it, it’s not negative it keeps our feet on the ground. The last thing we need is a situation where we think we are too good to go down; constructive criticisms are good it keeps away from complacency. As a club we seem to be going in the right direction, our owner is not perfect by any means, sadly we could do a lot worse, apart from the big mistakes the owners done well and he’s offered to give the fans a ticket price freeze for 10 seasons without a catch. If this does not warrant a fresh start nothing will. Mike Ashley’s business is mainly an online sports retailer; he never has to meet them so maybe a new approach is needed from both sides.

I’d rather accuse some supporters of getting too ahead of themselves and claiming that we should be pushing for Europe this season than having to criticise some “supporters” of being negative.

Oh and chuck why don’t you give it a rest. Since when did the board have to tell us about their plan, MA owns the club if he wants to sell it or keep it it’s up to him he doesn’t have to let any of us know. IrishGeordie was being positive and on a day of great news you’re being a soaking wet blanket so if you have nothing constructive to say (I’ve read your comments and have determined that you don’t) please errmm BOG OFFF!!!!

Some people can’t accept that Mike has made mistakes and is trying to rectify them. Some people have a vendetta against him. Some people would rather the club they ‘love’ struggle along, then see Mike garner it into a success, for some pathetic self-satisfying prophecy. In my opinion, that’s the truth of it.

Could someone tell me, that if a year I’d have said “We’ll have 2 players worthy of £25m+ price tags and just sold 1 for £35m, oh and the French starlet Ben Arfa playing for us. Sitting 9th in the league, Europe within our grasp, with a favourable remaining fixture list” – just what your response would have been?
