News in the People today that Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Newcastle left winger Jonas Gutierrez.
Jonas Gutierrez – has played 20 times for Argentina
It seems that City have been watching the Argentine International this season, and are said to be willing to offer around £10m for the player, if they decide to bid in the summer.
Gutierrez signed for Newcastle United on a five-year contract and for an undisclosed fee, in early July of 2008, on a five year contract.
Newcastle are said to have finally paid around £6M for the Argentine star, from Real Mallorca, after the Newcastle club initially thought they had signed him up for next to nothing, after his contract was paid up at the Spanish club.
But Jonas has been more than a decent player for Newcastle, with lingering question marks about his final ball, but he’s done well on Tyneside, and in 104 appearances for the Magpies, he has scored 5 goals.
Jonas has played 20 times for Argentina and played for the South American side in the World Cup last summer in South Africa – at right back!
So if indeed the Eastlands club do bid for Jonas, then maybe Newcastle could get former Newcastle United youngster, 23 year-old Adam Johnson, in part exchange.
Adam was born in Sunderland in 1987, but had the common sense to join Newcastle United Youth Academy. 😀
Adam was on the books of the Magpies between the ages of 10 and 12, from 1997 through 1999, and he was then picked up by the Middlesbrough Youth Academy.
This lad would be great at Newcastle, and would jump at the chance to join the famous club he supported as a youngster.

Comment #7Jonas form this season of late, I wouldn’t want to let him go until we have someone who can replace him, especially if Enrique stays, as that partnership down the left is one of our strongest attacking options & too lose both of them would in turn affect the way we play football & get at other clubs, which if you think about it, as been better option, especially when Barton has been out!!!
Can you imagine what we would do if Barton, Enrique & Jonas were to be sold, where would our attacking football come from 😮

Comment #11Good point by Solaiback.
Enrique definately benefited by playing with Jonas at the same side of the field. A tirelss team player who would works his socks off to cover for team mates.
The idea of swapping Jonas with A Johnson really is beyond me.

Comment #14GK= Harper, Krul, Forester
RB= Simpson, R.Taylor
CB= Collicini, S.Taylor,
CB = Williamson, Campbell
LB= Jose Enrique, Kadar
RM= Ben Arfa, Gosling, Routledge
DM= Tiote, Guthrie, Smith
AM= Nolan, Barton, Vuckic
LM= Jonas, Lua Lua, Ireland
ST= Best, Ranger, Lovenkrands, Shola
We currently have a good squad, just need to replace the dead wood (Campbell and Smith alteast) and buy a couple of first teamers (Winger and Striker). If we can do that as well as get in a new bunch of youngsters from all over the place, I think we’ll have a good season next time round.

Comment #17has anyone actually worked out when (after injuries) we will able to play our strongest first choice team and who it is likely to be against?
I had assumed it would be next season, but it looks like they will get a few games this term.

Comment #18I’m surprised by this news, although Jonas did play well and score against City at Eastlands this season. I would definitely sell if we got a good offer. £8m or Adam Johnson in exchange.
Adam Johnson is a much better player than Jonas, far more skillful and better end product, and he supports Newcastle. 🙂

Comment #19Johnson needs playing time to make him a better player, something he’s not getting at Citey, it’s like any players who’s not a starter, they become use to just playing 20-30mins & then are classed as a super-sub but imo I think if he came to the Toon, he’d get a lot more playing time & turn into one of the best right wingers in the PL.. 🙂

Comment #23Anyone notice that pardew has Jonas playing better? He no longer tries to run at his man every time he has the ball (though I do wish he do that at least once a game). It’s almost like he’s been told to wait for Enrique to overlap EVERYTIME. I’m liking it though. Definitely get to see more Enrique going forward which is normally brilliant!

Comment #25Anyone notice that Jonas is playing better now that Ben Arfa is knocking on the door? He only plays well when his place is in jeopardy. I’d honestly love to see him dropped. He needs some tough love.
My main gripe with Jonas is… of course… no end product. Most frustrating player I’ve ever seen. That includes Laurent Robert. At least you knew Robert could win you the match.
He doesn’t look like he’s going to produce that bit of magic you need from a player like him. His assist rate is shocking.
I do, however, think this news piece is absolute rubbish.

Comment #26It’s all nice thinking about bringing Johnston here in place of Jonas but what is Johnston’s wage and does it fit in our pay scales. Is he prepared to take a drop in pay to get more game time and play for his childhood club.

But if they wanna pay an obscene amount for him ok but an offer of 10 million we should be givin him a new contract.
Great player,final ball is getting better and with a few additions and no selling of our best players we could have a team worth talking about next year

Comment #32The best wide left man we have is ….
ENRIQUE.
We – or any club that buys him (hope not but reckon he will go in the summer) – should move him forward to a wing back position because (like Bale before) Enrique is wasted at left back.
I reckon he could be as good as or even better than Bale in that position. JE is without doubt one of the best players in the Premier.
Jonas is a good grafter but not in JE’s league.

Comment #33how hypocritical are we those that surf this block.we now regard joey barton as our best player…but we never really accepted him when he first started….here’s from and old blog bout 4 yrs ago…………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………….We need Barton like we need a hole in our heads

Joey Barton will be sold by Manchester City at the end of the season and is suspended until then following his well reported bust-up with colleague Ousmane Dabo at the training ground on Monday.
Dabo had to go to hospital following the tussle after suffering injuries to his mouth – and he really looked a sorry mess after the altercation. Dabo is today threatening legal action against Barton in what he claims was a “savage, unprovoked and, worst of all, cowardly assault” by his team-mate.
No question that Barton is a good player – and Newcastle are one of the clubs now being linked with him – so should we go for him during the summer?
I don’t think so.

Comment #34According to the People Enriques agent has already opened talks with AC Milan for a £10m switch in the summer like.
I know its probably sunday bollocks to sell papers but I’m starting to get worried that he’s going to go in the summer like.
I think the only way we’ll keep him is if we do somehow qualify for the europa league this season.
Thoughts?

Comment #36City are daft, Gutierez is a great player, the only reason he’d go is for money, as he well never get played, so if they want him, stick a £22m price tag on him, they’re daft enough to.

Comment #37I reckon part of his fantastic form of late has been that he is playing for a move. I’ve also noticed in the last few games he has started shaking his head and waving his arm if his passes aren’t chased down. That is a dead giveaway sign for me.
With one year left on his contract it is a no brainer that clubs like Man U, AC Milan etc., will be in for him. JE is a class act, knows it, the clubs that can give him Champions League football know it and I can’t see him staying.
Pity!

Comment #38I think Enrique has made his mind up and will be going in the summer. We just have to get as much for him as we can.
I was thinking about players from potentially relegated clubs as well. I’d definitely take N’Zogbia and Dorrans, I wouldn’t mind Ryan Jarvis and Kevin Doyle either, people say he doesn’t score many goals but his build up play and work rate is absolutely superb.

Comment #39I am stunned by those people commenting that Johnson is a better player than Jonas!?
Jonas’ final ball is famously lacking, but the outlet he gives us – never losing possession – pace, directness and stretching the pitch down the left is a MASSIVE part of our doing as well as we have this season. Whilst Johnson’s final ball/goals return is better on paper – Jonas’s massive team contributions would be desperately missed if he were to go.

Comment #40i would sell jonas immediately!i dont understand why he’s rated at all. in my opinion he’s too clumsy, loses the ball way too often, cant cross or pass. the only thing he offers is activity. he can dribble and runs non stop but he’s not effective and always looks like losing the ball to me. think there are much better wingers than him honestly!
i think we should buy hazard or kevin de bruyne!
two belgian youngsters who will be word class players in a few years time.
or why not go for lukaku!he’s the new drogba and would be a massive buy
