News in the People today that Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Newcastle left winger Jonas Gutierrez.
Jonas Gutierrez – has played 20 times for Argentina
It seems that City have been watching the Argentine International this season, and are said to be willing to offer around £10m for the player, if they decide to bid in the summer.
Gutierrez signed for Newcastle United on a five-year contract and for an undisclosed fee, in early July of 2008, on a five year contract.
Newcastle are said to have finally paid around £6M for the Argentine star, from Real Mallorca, after the Newcastle club initially thought they had signed him up for next to nothing, after his contract was paid up at the Spanish club.
But Jonas has been more than a decent player for Newcastle, with lingering question marks about his final ball, but he’s done well on Tyneside, and in 104 appearances for the Magpies, he has scored 5 goals.
Jonas has played 20 times for Argentina and played for the South American side in the World Cup last summer in South Africa – at right back!
So if indeed the Eastlands club do bid for Jonas, then maybe Newcastle could get former Newcastle United youngster, 23 year-old Adam Johnson, in part exchange.
Adam was born in Sunderland in 1987, but had the common sense to join Newcastle United Youth Academy. 😀
Adam was on the books of the Magpies between the ages of 10 and 12, from 1997 through 1999, and he was then picked up by the Middlesbrough Youth Academy.
This lad would be great at Newcastle, and would jump at the chance to join the famous club he supported as a youngster.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81By getting to Europe.. is just to attract more younger players. Thats the point.
Maybe we can sell them as well if they are attracting big offers.
But at least the club is moving forward in a way.

Comment #85Steve Carr is just too fat at Newcastle. At that time Newcastle was just feeding chickens. players just got injury and never came back.
But now we are much better already. Some better players are coming in to change the dressing room.

Comment #86basically to anyone that doesn’t understand:
if Newcastle want to play European football next season then they have to finish in at least 6th place as Birmingham have now taken that spot which would have previously been given to 7th place.

Comment #87Europe next season!!! We have just been promoted, i mean come on. We don’t help our reputation do we? I still feel that our main target and Pardrews main target is to stay in this division. Anything else would be a bonus.

I will explain you why our chance is slim. We have to finish at least 6th to have any chance with the condition that top5 must play each other in FA cup final. If not, FA cup runner-up will get Europa place. Therefore, we have to finish at least 5th to guarantee Europa place next season. So do you still think we have a good chance? LOL

Comment #91@mgermino: i strongly believe aston villa has what it takes to beat bolton or draw with them.
Next fixture is another chance given to NUFC,hopefully they can take it,after losing yet another chance to go up yesterday.

Comment #93No way we should sell Jonas Gutierrez. I know their was times in past where we dislike the lad but certainly those times are gone. He style of play makes him one of the most important players on our squad. He will kill beat and terrorize any defender in the league, as he has shown. His dribbling is immense. But his crosses are not the best at times. That is why we have an attacking machine called Jose Enrique who has beauty crosses and excellent dribbling who is always and always their to help him out right behind him to whip in a perfect cross. I have to say our left hand side is perfect. Hope they 2 don’t leave in summer. Put Hatem Ben Arfa in the Center Attacking Mid role where he can have a stingering shot or a descent through ball hopefully to either Hulk or Gervinho. The right keep Barton there with Nolan and Tiote controlling the midfield…..

Yes, I do still think that.
I am not a optimist in general. But I am hopeful.
I am more concerned about staying up because the league is so close this season, but I do think that 6th place is possible. 5th? well, if we finish 6th and not go to Europe, I wouldn’t mind that at all.

Comment #100Hopefully 6th place is going to be a europa league spot now, but liverpool will be pushing hard for that… unless of course Birmingham get into top 6 then 7th will be available for us! lol very unlikely though! I dont mind, as long as we’re top10 and above mackems I’ll be happy this season. Next season we can worry more about pushing into the top 6 or7. If we make it this season, great. But I wont be too disappointed if we dont.

Comment #101We’re only 3 points behind liverpool with the same games played! Europe is still reachable! However, if we dont reach it, i’ll still be happy with the way the team has performed this season, it has set us up for a good year next season if we can keep our better players and qualifying for europe will only help on that front, so we must try to get into Europe this season!
How many of you would have thought at the start of the season that come 10 games to go, we’ll be 3 points off of a european place? The way we’re playing means Europe is a real possibility…

Comment #104Europe? at the start of the season we just wanted consolidation and PL survival. So what’s happened? Is our team playing better than they should? It’s no wonder we have a reputation of being deluded. We should just be pleased that we are close to hitting our target and try for bigger and better things next season.

Comment #105Europe next season is a stupid idea. 2 injuries already knocks our squad depth, and affects our league position. We still have a squad of players we needed for the championship to get here. We have nothing like a squad capable of competing on a domestic season and a European campaign. Next season I expect us to be competing for that sort of thing, but this season could and probably would cause us a disaster.

you wouldn’t complain if we managed it though would you, i know its unrealistic but just shows how much our team has progressed over two years which is amazing and if we keep building and progressing just imagine…
I know it wont happen, very happy with our position at the minute its 7 places above what i expected

Comment #107Europe without extra signings would, of course, destroy us. But it can also bring extra incomes and help us attract better players.
On the other hand, I think most ppl are just hoping that we could get there rather than demanding it to happen.

Comment #109Haha yeah tdt, we did, and we posted it at the same minute too.. spooky 😮
Anyway as Widowmakerpointed out, fans aren’t demanding that we reach europe next season, it would be a nice bonus and as I said, I wouldnt be disappointed if we didnt reach europe because I would have taken 17th at the start of the season. But as the season has unfolded, being 3 points off of a European spot with 10 games left, we must be in with a shot right? Just be optimistic for once, it might do ya some good 😉

Comment #110DarloGeordie, No I wouldn’t complain if we made it and Ashley strengthened the squad enough to compete in all competitions. But if he didn’t we’d be, very quickly the laughing stock and not just in England. That to me is worse than not getting into Europe next season.

True, without strengthening we would be cream crackered I have all my fingers and toes crossed that Ashley invests this summer because as Tiote has said our team spirit is awesome and could lead to great things…
We are playing some nice football nowadays and I haven’t seen that for years, not many teams benefit from being relegated but WE have, but hey only Newcastle United can do it this way (the bloody hard way) 🙂

Comment #116Darlo, I probs wouldn’t complain, but I would be bloody worried. We are in need of a squad overhaul still. We are getting some good players in, but we still have a lot of players on the books that aint up to the Prem, never mind a humid night in Milan. The players who are up to the prem would be hesitant to put themselves on the line for a Prem match if it meant they would miss out on a Euro fixture. Yes it would generate a bit of extra income, it would also put our few excellent players in the shop window of some of the bigger boys, and overall, I think until we have a team that can expect to finish in the top 6 regularly we should avoid the competition.

Comment #118GeordieGerman0 post 104- I agree with ya m8. All of a sudden everyone is being greedy and wanting more than what we really can achieve. Europe would be great but it is looking very unlikely now that Birmingham have won the Cup. To reach 6th would take a lot of effort and one or two injuries and we won’t make it. Don’t get me wrong I would love to see us in Europe again, but we should be happy that our team is playing wonderfully and keeping a Europe spot in our sights for most of the season. We are over achieving really and if we SURVIVE as we can still go down I expect us to push on for Europe next season when we will have big players back like Ben Arfa and big players signed to help us get there. We have to be realistic and stop all the hype of Europe as it may just distract any player that might actually read the blog. We should go out for wins but we also have to be cautious and realistic in our targets. Next season I have no doubt that we can achieve a Europa spot. This season we have had too many ups and downs and Ben Arfa’s injury killed us.

Comment #119I know it’s not about IFs and BUTS….
BUT IF we won as we should of against the spuds, mackems and probably today with a little more luck we’d be on 42 points, 3 points off Chelsea. We’re not far off, albeit its been an unusual PL season.
Really proud of the lads this seasons, they have really fought hard and given the opposition a game in the majority of cases. I no longer think teams enjoy playing against us, we’re quite hard to breakdown and beat (do we finally have a good defence!!).
I’ve loved the major scalps we’ve taken aswell, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Aston Villa etc
We’re playing thoroughly entertaining football too – how any fan has a reason to be negative is beyond me.
Can not WAIT to see what Arfa, Ireland and Gosling can do.
