Tiote Signs For Newcastle Despite Real Madrid Interest

There is news today in the Sunday Sun,  that Real Madrid were starting to be very interested in Newcastle’s midfield dynamo Cheick Tiote, but Cheick was only too keen to sign on for the Magpies, and that was great news on Friday.

Tiote challenges Bolton’s Davies yeterday

The news is that Cheick’s wages increased four-fold, when he signed his new massive deal, which it reported to be £50K/week over 76 months, and will tie up the 24 year-old at the club until the summer of 2017 – we hope.

Alan Pardew came out last Friday and started to relay some of Mike Ashley’s thoughts on Newcastle’s future, and Alan says he wanted Cheick signed up on  a long term deal as soon as possible.

And it seems that Mike Ashley moved very fast to sign up the Ivory Coast International, and certainly it was a very popular signing for the Newcastle fans, who just love the lad.

But as we all  know with the Andy Carroll affair, it will not stop Chelsea coming in with a massive bid for the player in the summer, and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens – because Chelsea will make a bid for Tiote, that’s almost a certainty.

It’s also being reported in the Sunday Sun that a number of those super agents, like Paul Stretford, who represent some of the big clubs, were interested in meeting with the Ivorian.

This is what Alan Pardew told the Sunday Sun today:

“After the Andy Carroll transfer I sat down with Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias.”

“That transfer had happened over the phone – we needed to look each other in the eye afterwards,”

“I said that I thought Cheick was, in some ways, the most important player at the club. Definitely for the fans, anyway.”

“I told them a statement would be getting his contract sorted out. To be fair to Mike, he’s done that. He moved very quickly.”

And Alan Pardew believes Cheick still has some improvements to make on the field, and he wants him to be even more influential in the middle of the park, and also improve his disciplinary record, as he has 9 yellow cards this season.

Alan continued:

“He has an athleticism and ability with the ball which is difficult to find. You usually get one or the other,”

“You could change his game a bit by making it a bit more offensive, but would that take away from him?”

“Well to be honest I would like to see him influence the game a little bit more.”

“He can definitely improve the number of assists because his passing is so accurate.”

We have to hope Newcastle can hold onto Tiote, Barton and Enrique in the summer.

Because if they can, Alan only needs about four good acquisitions  to significantly improve  the Newcastle squad, and be all set make an effort to get into the top six next season.

Tiote is class. If he rejected Real Madrid even though there are no actual quotes or anything it just shows how determined this lad is to make his Newcastle career a success. What might turn his head though is a Chelsea bid. As he is a self-confessed huge Michael Essien fan. I just hope that Chelsea don’t show up with a huge offer for him in the summer. It’s a smart move by Pardew to make Tiote sign an improved contract now. And credit to Ashely for listening and agreeing to Pardew’s wishes.

what is more, the contract terms will appeal to players & agents around the world – last year’s announcement of no capital investments caused damage & confusion – this is the right message and we will be on the radar of up and coming talent

Well done to Tiote, lets see if Enrique is as commited to the club as he said he was a very few weeks ago now that Barca are supposedly interested in him or will he leave us even if we are guaranteed a place in the PL next season 🙁

If a bid of say 35 mil comes in the club will sell it’s good for Newcastle to be in control like the judas saga Liverpool said name a price so we did he wanted to leave so we hot over inflated price Ashley is a hard business man he will only sell for massive profit we own the player ie tiote for 6 1/2 Years newastle will come a club that runs by itself like arsenal and I wouldn’t mind that on bit and a top 10 finish will be outstanding!

Yes it`s encouraging, if Ireland and Gosling turn out as good as we think they will and Benny is back to his best then who knows.
A quality left back, just in case? and a top striker (although Best for me gets better every game) are the priorities.
But wish sometimes that we stop trying to play it out at the back. Collo should have booted it instead playing a suicidal ball to Tiote who was being pressed, lost a lot of goals and points this season this way!

If the club wanted to sell Tiote in the summer, they wouldn’t have given him a 6 & 1/2 year contract & quadrupled his wages, as he still had almost 4 years left on his old contract which would have most certainly made for a hefty transfer between clubs, as it is, the extra cost & contract length won’t make much of a difference if the club wanted to sell him, all it does is make Tiote want to stay at the club longer than the summer due to the extra wages & commitment the club have given him imo…..

    Sir Alan@8

Andy Carroll had just signed a 5 and a half year deal, if he wanted to stay he could have simply said no, i dont want to go to liverpool End Of. Fact.
Ashley has made many mistakes, and I initially hated him with a vengence, however the club is well on track to being financially sound, 35 mil was excellent business, remember carrol is still out injured. We can get as good in the summer for a fraction of the cost. The football being played at the moment is positive attacking football as is the tyneside way, we have a crop of young talent which bodes well for the future and yes we may sell some for a profit, but we will also invest in promising younger players, we are in a far better position now than we were three years ago, just some people cant seem to see the brutal facts.

I know what you are saying but a huge amount of our good work is built on playing the ball out after breaking down the opposition attack. When it works is superb when it doesn’t it’s suicide it’s all part of the fun and entertainment.

Siralan why don’t you try reading the facts??

carroll got a new 5year contract back end of last year slitherpool are sniffing around and making a lot of noise and three months later carroll is back at the office door trying to force a pay rise on the back of it. Carroll knew the situation at the club better than any of us but he was still asking for an apparent increase to £80,000 a wk.

A interview with Carroll himself in the Chronicle he admits he was asking for a new contract and the club refused and they were spot on to do so.

I did post a link to the carroll article previously but it looks like it may have been moderated out.

By the way siralan how do you propose that we read the facts when the bulk of the stuff printed is either journalistic interpretation, miss-interpretation, deliberate out of context misquoting or downright lies.

    ED seriously-

Are you even English? Even by your standards this is impressively awful English. Have you ANY grasp of grammatical ‘tense’ whatsoever!?!?

@Solaidback – rubbish. The new bumper contract will ensure any buying club will have to pay even more for Tiote to release the inflated sale clause.

Agree with Pardew if he improved offensively he’d be awesome. Though, still a real talent we’re lucky to have.
