We started a poll on February 17th asking if fans thought that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley would reinvest back into the squad, the £35M in transfer fee, the club received for Andy Carroll.
Will Mike Ashley Reinvest £35M From Carroll Sale Into Stengthening The Squad?
- Yes (41%, 504 )
- No (39%, 482 )
- Not Sure (20%, 254 )
Total Voters: 1,240
And since Kevin Keegan’s comments yesterday on BBC Radio Newcastle, where he said that he didn’t think manager Alan Pardew would see any of that money, it seems a good time to end the poll and publish the results.
By reinvesting, we meant that the money wouldn’t necessarily all be spent on just transfer fees, but on players’ wages too, and that would count as a valid reinvestment of the money received for big Andy.
We’ve just closed the poll and it couldn’t have been much closer, split right down the middle, as the results above show clearly.
Mike Ashley – Newcastle owner
Each reader is only allowed one vote in all of our polls, and one reason for that is that it doesn’t allow more extreme views to significantly alter the results.
For instance, one person voting a hundred times or more as one example, which we’ve seen is allowed in some other of the polls we’ve seen, and we think that allows extreme views to significantly alter the results one way or the other.
One vote per reader gives a more accurate reflection of what the fans really think.
So the results are the opinions of some 1240 different readers of this web-site, and 504 voted yes that Mike would reinvest the money (41%), 487 voted no (39%) and a rather sizable 254 (20% were not sure.
We have very right to believe the reason that one in five fans just don’t know what Mike will do, is because they hardly know who the guy even is – because he never talks to his customers – the Newcastle fans.
And at the significant risk of sounding like an old broken record the one thing Mike could do to improve his relations with Newcastle fans – is to talk to them – communicate with them – tell them what he’s thinking – and what he’s planning for the club as we move ahead – because quite honestly we have very little idea what Mike really thinks.
If Mike or Managing Director Derek LLambias don’t want to do it, then tell Alan Pardew and have the manger pass it on to the fans, because there’s one thing we are very impressed about Alan – and that’s his excellent communications skills, which are really good, and he’s very comfortable with the press.
After all, close to 50,000 fans spend their hard-earned money every other Saturday to attend the home games, so they deserve some respect and some words from the owner.
One way of expressing the results is to point out that a rather large 59% of readers either think he will not invest the money or are not sure he will invest, and 41% think he will – and we were in that 41%.
The only real conclusion we can draw from these results is the Newcastle fans are truly split right down the middle on whether Ashley will invest that £35M.
The good news is we should know the answer in about six months time, when August 31st rolls around.
On second thoughts, make that when September 1st rolls around.
Comments welcome, but please respect other readers’ views.

Just watched Fox Chelski – Man U. Chelski got a free kick and Cole took it and missed. The commentator said. “I don’t know how he missed that. He’s had enough target practice this week”.
I spat my beer out with laughing.

Comment #82lou9brasil…no I don’t want a medal…but if you if you are offering, it might be the only one coming to these parts for another few years yet….your “facts “are spurious….”he should have stayed until we were safe”???It was September 1st when he was forced out!!! There wasn’t a relegation situation until the Fat Man got JFK in….yes, we need to move on but not by re-writing history and forgetting the facts in favour of blindly following the “club” line…..I just don’t see how we can manage to build on a small but promising nucleus of players if we are willing to cash in everytime the transfer window opens…..
If you want to rant shite and let off steam, why don’t you “jog on ” round to my place and participate in a few rounds of pugilistic art?

No it was just the Wiki edit by someone but tbh its a rather strange combo, we have been linked with Perotti already but adding that Antonio Rodriguez who is hardly a known player means there could be some ounce of truth but atm its just rumour nothing concrete.
“lualua n donaldsons”
Keep Lua Lua a good winger and showed it we will get his contract tied up in summer i reckon but for Ryan im not sure didnt look impresive the times ive seen him.
Perotti scored tonight for Sevilla, Gijon are down to 10 but good to see him playing and scoring (his 2nd goal this season in Liga).

While I was also very disappointed by KK’s second departure, I wouldn’t blame him. Try put ourselves in the situation.
I remember I saw the news around Soho area London the first time he resigned, I was very devastating. Oh, and I did not realise that no single manager could yet copy his achievement as a Toon boss in recent history. Not even Sir Bobby.
When he returned, I was having my holiday in Maldevs and I am sure people who lived in other islands had hear me screaming. Cos, I had realised that no one manager could yet to achieve what he has achieved as our manager. No, not even the great Sir Bobby.
Pay some respects to the man. KK did quit the job twice, but where this club would be without him?
Would I want him come back? No, not again. But he is still the biggest hero to me until someone could actually win something for us.

Comment #87Spent the last half hour reading all this!
A lot of you are all entitled to your opinions about what has happened in the past ten years! But what is more important is the present!
Keegan has gone as have JK and Fat Sam! This is now history and we need to concentrate on the future!
Whether the money from Carrolls transfer will be re-invested? Who knows, some of it may well be.
It was not the fact that Carroll was sold that peeved me the most at the time. It was the fact that Pardew was,nt given the time to get a suitable replacement in ! If Ashley had an ounce of sense he would of negotiated the sale of AC at the beginning of the window and not two mins before it closed!
As for all this debate about Keegan! Been there, said it , done that, and oh yeh! Just reminds me how passionate i am about the club. You all still want to debate events that happened years ago.
I just want us to get on and win something major! In my lifetime, lord knows i,ve been waiting long enough!
Now lets jog on and get three points on Sat!

Comment #88Stuart, my fat maggot loving friend, answer me This? What has Mike Ashley done for this club?
Paid the debt? Nope… So let’s rule that out, in the past 4-5 years…. What has mike the greedy maggot Ashley done for this club! I mean, you are using words like FACT so I presume you are very close to jabba! Are you the salacious crumb?
As for KK, nothing but a bitter old man trying to curry favor with the majority of the fans who know what fatty is all about!!
These polls are irrelevant. Does not matter what fans think, we are a little hump in a big long straight road to mike cashiers savings account!!
The man doesn’t care bout us or the team! If he can achieve a mid table finish from now til the day he goes out with a huge weight causing coronary (fingers crossed) he will reap the rewards of dedicated fans hard earned, tv money , EPL placement money and marketing revenue!!

Comment #89I’ve posted before that saying we are a selling club under MA is just pure nonsense.
We sold Milner, N’Zogbia and Given before relegation. Of the three only Milner (possibly) hadn’t demanded a move and at the time £12M was a great price.
After relegation the likes of Owen, Martins, Duff, Bassong etc., wouldn’t play in the Fizzy and we and the rest of the players didn’t want most of them to stay anyway.
And then AC … I’ll tell you why we didn’t have anyone lined up. Because MA never thought any club would pay £35M for a CF with just 16 Premier games. He turned down £15M and £20M bids from Spurs before the window – is that what selling clubs do? NO! MA then turned down £25M and £30M on deadline day – is that what selling clubs do? NO! He then said ‘pay £35M with a 25% sell on clause’ – is that what selling clubs do? NO! It’s called FN GOOD BUSINESS because EVERY player has his price – even Ronaldo.
Every club sells players – you can’t just keep adding to the squad. MA has sold only TWO players – Milner and Carroll – who arguably we could have kept IF we were prepared to have unhappy Harry’s in the squad.
The neggers on here need to get a reality check.
NUFC are in a better position both squad wise, financially and managerially than we have been for years. Thats a fact.
MA will spend c£20M in the summer – I have absolutely no doubt about that. Unless he gets a knockout offer for the club he is now here for the long term.
I for one am more than happy to have him in charge.

Comment #91Angryman the Angry fan – What’s mike Ashley done for our football club! I suggest you think long and hard before answering!!
Well pal – you obviously didn’t think for vey long did you?
Let’s take your shi%%y tinted glasses off and look at it clearly.
When MA bought the club we were deep in the financial crap – deeper than any fan ever imagined. It was also deeper than MA could have believe and – although that was his fault – he has bailed us out to the tune of £287M in unsecured personal loans.
He bo%%oxed up with Keegan and Wise. We all know that, including MA, that got us relegated. BUT its how you react to your mistakes that defines the man – and MA didn’t hide or run away.
He could have sold last year to Barry Moat and cut his losses but he didn’t because he knew Moat didn’t have enough dosh to run the club properly. He appointed Hoots against the fans wishes and that decision got us promoted.
So – having got us relegated and in the finnacial crap – he got us promoted and financially stable. Ask Boro and Leeds fans what they would give for THAT bonny lad.
So – the likes of you blame him for the relegation but don’t give him credit for the promtion? How pathetic is that.
He screwed £35M out of LFC for an unproven CF, had the bravery to appoint AP (the RIGHT decision IMO) and is handing out long term contracts to secure our best players. Not all will sign – Enrique for example – but thats life pal.
Now – you tell me what MA has done wrong since we got relegated. And give facts pal not nonsensical rants about him being a fat cocknt bstad.
Over to you.

Comment #93I personally think that Ashley will reinvest around 60% of the AC transfer fee. Love him or hate him, the man is shrewd and is alining the club financially to comply with FIFA rules for 2014 which should put us already 2 or 3 seasons ahead of the other mid-table clubs. There is a plan, have faith folks

Comment #96We should have no complaints provided Ashley spends most of the AC money which is £35m plus whatever AC was earning. I also don’t want any last minute sales of top players (because we get a good price) but with time to find replacements, which is then swiftly followed by a promise to reinvest in the next transfer window. This seems to have been the preferred way of doing business over the past few years so that there is always money to theoretically reinvest but as soon as it is reinvested other players then get sold and so it never always gets reinvested.

… 7th if we hadn’t let in two last minute goals – we did!! we’re not!!
… almosr certain Premier security by February – I hope we are secure now, but been supporting this team for over thirty years and learned to take nowt for granted!!
… outside chance of qualifying for Europe – See last answer!!
… 4 points off the Mackems – last time i looked it was 1 point…(Oh dear is this debate falling to bits)
… Pardew keeping the squad spirit going – It certainly looks like that, its rumoured that Bartoon aint happy though 🙁
… Tiote signing 6.5 year deal – Same sort of deal as Carrolls 5 year…not worth the paper its written, it just makes Ashley richer when he sells him!!
… £35M in the bank – should really have been sepct on a replacement, just like Liverpool did for torres!!
… the best squad of players for years – This i actually agree with !! Not down to Ashley!!!
… some excellent young prospects – Again i agree, is this down to Mike Ashley?? Most definitely NOT.
… money to spend this summer – hahahah and what evidence do you have that this is actually a fact – look at the history of Ashleys Regime!!
Angryman – is it a dream??? 90% of it is a dream!!!!!

While I can’t disagree with you on the fact that every club sell players at some point, but we do act like a selling club.
Top clubs like Man U, Arsenal and co don’t sell their first team players without a good replacement lined up, but our board couldn’t careless about how we might be affected on field once a decent offer comes. We paid the price for Milner sale and it seems we are lucky this time with Carrol sale.

Plus, newcastle tried to sign N’Zogbia, Crouch and a few other players if I remember correctly. I’m not saying they would’ve been good buys. My point was money is obviously available.
As for your point about having the best squad in years and the best youth for years. Who do you think its down to?
Where would our squad come from if he didnt buy them?
Plus MA has put alot of focus on our youth academy since he bought the club as its part of his ‘model’.
Playsers like Krul, Vuckic, Moyo etc were all brought in under MA and are all tipped for the future.

Comment #107The new fifa fair play rules are not intended to affect the likes of man city or Chelsea, or man u, its only to stop a Leeds or Portsmouth situation, and an owner will be able to invest as much into the club as they like, what they will not be able to do is build up massive debts, with the hope of champions league football to finance it. and even if one of the famous “G” clubs are in massive debt they will still be allowed into European football, as it was brilliantly surmised by someone on hear, they will just start up the talk of a European super league again. & on the subject of the £35m its foolish to talk in money terms we need to be strengthened in the summer and need 4-5 new players, if we get the right players in we are a force in the premier league, if we don’t get the right players in, simply we will have missed a great opportunity to move forward. and on Pardew his clock starts ticking in august, to build him up too soon could be counterproductive, as once they reach such heights the only way is then down. I will keep an open mind on Pardew and give him every chance to succeed or fail, I have positives & negatives on Pardew, but I will make a judgment on how he does next season, by firstly the entertainment & secondly how successful we are. On Ashley I don’t care if he spends £5m or £50m+ I just care he brings in the right players.

Comment #116The club’s being run well at the moment. Better than it has been for years. Sure, the new owner had a few bumps and there are those who will continue to slag him off because they aren’t prepared to believe he is learning from his mistakes, but we’re in a better position than I, or any other supporter with a grain of intelligence would have dreamed at the beginning of this season.
I’m with Stuart on just about all of his posts. Angryman and I have argued before and there is no getting through to him. It would appear he has a crystal ball which tells him what is going to happen, otherwise it’s just blind hatred from an imbecile who thinks his opinion is fact.
The turning point in the relegation season was when Keegan left, and I blame both him and Ashley for that (I’m sorry, but for £3m a year I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t just bend over. The word “untenable” should not even be in Keegan’s dictionary under those circumstances). Many will disagree, but we were on that road before Mike Ashley ever arrived. It was bound to happen sooner or later, but without the investment the club received, it would have been a lot worse.
We’re back where we belong and look to be improving by the week and, thankfully, large sections of the support are beginning to be won over by the current manager, who seems to know what he’s doing.
Somebody posted somewhere above that people should read the article properly, claiming that Pardew said the money would be reinvested in the club. In actual fact, this person clearly didn’t read the article properly, as Pardew said that the money would be reinvested in the SQUAD, not the club.
You guys know that the money from player sales belong to the club, right?
The only way Ashley can claim a penny is through dividends, which he says he isn’t taking, or through recovering the money the club owes him, which he says he isn’t going to do until the club can afford it.
I think we’ll buy in the summer. I really do. I just hope we don’t sell players and not replace them. If we’re challenging for bigger things, we’ll need a bigger squad, not just a better one.
On a related note, it’s good to see that Pardew is also talking about bringing through Ferguson and Tavernier next year. Cracking young players, the pair of them.

Comment #117Angryman – You don’t hand over your hard earned cash to have it kept in safe hands, you hand it over to watch a match, same sa anyone else.
What happens to it after that is beyond your control and, probably, undersatnding. Football clubs aren’t run on simply buying the players you want and selling the ones you don’t fancy.
Honestly, I couldn’t give two sh1ts if you hate Ashley, or you don’t trust him. Nobody cares, least of all Ashley, who will continue to run the club his way, with or without your blessing.
You got that? Your ignorant opinion counts for Jack 5hit, my old son!
I’ve already figured out that my opinion doesn’t count, so I will put faith in the manner in which our club appears to be going forward.
Not a lot of substance in your posts, or fact, just opinion, (needless) anger, and abuse. If you’re not a teenager, you should be a little embarassed, because you sound like one.

MA is only a custodian of the club….it is nothing without the fans who support it
Everyone wants to see us going forward and progressing but UNTIL we start to think a bit bigger than looking to develop players just so they can be sold on for a profit there are going to be us so-called “neggers” questioning your faith in successful business = successsful team.

Didn’t anyone ever teach you that when you resort to petty name calling, the argument is as good as lost?
Therefore this makes me the victor in such debates. As I was with Stuart who thinks I’m a ‘prick’ because my opinion doesn’t match his?
I mean honestly? Who do you think looks a little silly now!
Anyway back to business, what has Fat cash maggot done good for this football club?

Spot on! Can safely say that the so called neggers are not the blinkered ones, they don’t just see Nufc as A business proposition, we see it as a football club with the main body of that being the TEAM!!
