Sources in Holland are reporting today that Newcastle United are after Dutch winger Jeremain Lens.
Jeremain Lens – now at PSV Eindhoven
This is not the first time Newcastle have been linked with the 23 year-old striker or winger, and the lad’s already been capped three times by the Netherlands, and currently is at the PSV club.
The Amsterdam-born winger has some pace, which is what Newcastle will be looking for in the summer, to add another dimension to the side.
Lens started his career at AZ Alkmaar, and in May of last year he moved to PSV on a four year contract, and the deal also involved Dirk Marcellis going the other way, in part exchange.
Lens has scored seven goals in 25 league appearances for PSV this season, and the Dutch club is currently at the top of the Eredivisie, being 3 points clear of FC Twente, who were last season’s Champions.
Lens is on Newcastle’s radar, but so are a lot of other more than decent players, as Newcastle have some money to spend this summer, to strengthen their squad.
Jeremain made his debut into professional football in the 2005–06 season, when he played two matches for AZ, and he was on loan to NEC in the 2007-2008 season, and scored 9 goals in 31 appearances, so he’s a good player.
PSV are not in good financial shape at the moment and sources say they would listen to a decent offer for the player, from the Newcastle club.
Manchester City and Liverpool are also said to be interested in the player, so Newcastle will face some competition from other PL clubs for the 5’10” tall player.
The Newcastle scouting squad are out in full force at the moment, and it wouldn’t surprise us if Newcastle bring in as many as 5 players during the summer.
The club could also try to unload some fringe players who are on high wages – like Alan Smith, Sol Campbell and Xisco.
