Newcastle Reported After Dutch International Winger

Sources in Holland are reporting today that Newcastle United are after Dutch winger Jeremain Lens.

Jeremain Lens – now at PSV Eindhoven

This is not the first time Newcastle have been linked with the 23 year-old striker or winger, and the lad’s already been capped three times by the Netherlands, and currently is at the PSV club.

The Amsterdam-born winger has some pace, which is what Newcastle will be looking for in the summer, to add another dimension to the side.

Lens started his career at AZ Alkmaar, and  in May of last year he moved to PSV on a four year contract, and the deal also involved Dirk Marcellis going the other way,  in part exchange.

Lens has scored seven goals in 25 league appearances for PSV this season, and the Dutch club is currently at the top of the Eredivisie, being 3 points clear of FC Twente, who were last season’s Champions.

Lens is on Newcastle’s radar, but so are a lot of other more than decent players, as Newcastle have some money to spend this summer, to strengthen their squad.

Jeremain made his debut into professional football in the 2005–06 season, when he played two matches for AZ, and he was on loan to NEC in the 2007-2008 season, and scored 9 goals in 31 appearances, so he’s a good player.

PSV are not in good financial shape at the moment and sources say they would listen to a decent offer for the player, from the Newcastle club.

Manchester City and Liverpool are also said to be interested in the player, so Newcastle will face some competition from other PL clubs for the 5’10” tall player.

The Newcastle scouting squad are out in full force at the moment, and it wouldn’t surprise us if Newcastle bring in as many as 5 players during the summer.

The club could also try to unload some fringe players who are on high wages – like Alan Smith, Sol Campbell and Xisco.

Comments welcome.

1 year into a 4 year contract. Out of our price range unless he is deemed surplus to requirments.

My first thought where “typical” after I read “Newcastle Reported After Ditched International Winger”. Then I saw it was Dutch and feel a lot better now.

most of the player’s we are interested in are just paper talk, i would really love for Gervinho to join the toon, he’s young and a good goal scorer i think he would fit in well, especially if he’s anything like tiote 🙂

I was also hoping for Elia when read dutch winger. BUt i feel that these are the players we should be signing as they will cost no more than 5 mill and their wages will be no more than 30k. This also allows us to sign more players. I think that our scouts are rading the Dutch, Belgian, German leagues in my opinion.

Dutch players are always worth looking at as they seem to be very good technically.
Getting sick of seeing Liverpool’s name associated, however, with every player we seem to be interested in. Just how many players do they want?

Good player! I still think we should go for Pablo Piatti AND El Arabi instead . They would both be cheaper and have amazing potential!

despite pardew stating ashleys transfer policy i have been amazed how many players we have been linked with over the age of 30.i do believe that this could be the most important transfer window we have players to get rid of routledge smith r.taylor and perch(xisco wont go till his contract runs out)plus it looks like enrigue will be leaving plus campbell will not have his contract renewed so we will need all the 35 mill plus

I think Balázs Dzsudzsák is better than Lens, and Dzsudzsák cost about 12-14 mill €. He is worldclass player –>

    Just Check It! 😉

    Believe it when it happens!

Good player but there are a lot of good players in Holland! If the scouts are across here looking at talent then Lens is not the only player they should be looking at!

This guy will cost more then 5 mil I’m thinking atleast double.

First of all about 2 seasons ago he was bought for 6mil so PSV will want a profit.

second of all Lens is in his 2nd year of a 4/5 year contract so you have to buy him out of that.

And last but not least he already had a chance to go to newcastle but he chose PSV so newcaste will have to promise him more first team football and more wages ( probaly )

so I think he is more around 10/11 mill with around 35k wages atleast.

Colombus – Totally agree with you on Piatti, he looks awesome and has lots of potential, people have been saying he’s too small for the prem, but just look at modric this season for spurs he’s been one of their best players.
