The Newcastle scouting staff has done well over the last couple of seasons, and we’re hoping they can again spot one or two very good players to bring to Tyneside in the summer at a decent price.
Pardew wouldn’t mind another Cheick Tiote this summer
And it seems the club are concentrating on Europe and not spending too much time in South America as Alan says there are some passport problems with trying to bring those players in.
This is what Alan said about Newcastle’s scouting system today:
“I would say we will have 10 to 12 scouts at games. It is a decent number,” “We’re making a lot of effort but we’re naive if we think we’re going to unearth four or five Cheick Tiotes in the summer.”
“That deal was brilliant for this football club and his first year in the Premier League, if you’d have paid £15million for him you’d have been fairly pleased with him.”
“To pay what we did, you would be ecstatic. To find four of those is impossible. Could we find one more of those? Possibly. Could we find two? Maybe.”
“But we’re not going to be able to fill all of the bases with players like Cheick. They don’t come along often.”
Cheick Tiote has been a huge success on Tyneside since he arrived last August from Dutch club FC Twente for just £3.5M and must be something in the transfer market these days.
Tiote is already part of Geordie folklore with his fantastic equalizing goal against Arsenal a few weeks back, his very first goal for the club and what a goal it was.
In that game, Newcastle United came back from 4-0 down to get to 4-4, and scored all their goals in last 23 minutes of that amazing game.
Pardew talked today about Tiote, who is one of the darlings of the Tyneside fans:
“I’m very, very pleased with him, and Graham Carr must take a lot of the credit because he pushed very hard for him.”
“Cheick Tiote is part of our team now – we’ve got some other names that we hope can be like Cheick. But it’s only hope really.”
And Alan has said why Newcastle are not bothering too much with scouting in South America, at least for this summer:
“There is a problem with passports,” “It is all well and good looking at the Brazilian market and Argentinian market where there is talent.”
“Perhaps more than any other countries – but they just can’t get passports that make them eligible.”
It would be terrific if Newcastle can indeed bring in one or two relatively unknown players, who turn out to be as good as Cheick has turned out, but we also know that’s never easy.
We do expect Newcastle to mix it up this summer in the transfer market, and bring in some youngsters who would be for the future, and we don’t expect just highly priced players coming in over the summer either.
We’d be more than happy with a few bargain buys this summer, in addition to some high priced captures, and there’s nothing wrong with getting a few bargain buys.
And remember the most important thing this summer is getting four or five very good players added to the squad, rather than how much they cost in total.
We’ve been down the road of paying out huge fees for players, who turn out to be mediocre at best, and often are not even good enough to wear the Newcastle shirt, let’s keep remembering that
Comments very welcome.

Comment #46Just watched the Wolves-Tottenham game was a really good fast game but Wolves were robbed. Thank f**k. Liverpool-Manure Hey if Liverpool can do it so can we. Wasn’t to impressed when Judas came on although he laid a nice ball up for Kuyt he just didn’t seem to be able to hold the ball and kept giving it away. Of course I maybe a little biased.

Comment #49solano, Nazi? what makes me a Nazi? Me being born and raised in Newcastle? Me having local (honourable) discharge in Germany after serving 7 years in 1RRF Geordie battalion. Or just me calling Carroll a Judas? He was pushed out. That’s your opinion not mine. But do I call you a Commi because you have a different opinion? Nope, I don’t. But if I was Carroll and I didn’t wan’t to go then I would have forced Ashley’s hand as I wouldn’t want to loose the 10% that Carroll lost when he put in a transfer request.

Comment #51daneevz….I don’t know how old you are, but we’ve been here many times over the years…Waddle, Beardsley and Gascoigne were all called the same name when they left………..they all left because the club didn’t share their wish to progress….I think, in AC’s case, it was slightly different in that he was pressurized to take the deal from Liverpool….Dogleash said he didn’t want to leave and Derek Llambias(Baldrick) almost admitted himself in his radio interview the other day….

I think liverpool probably covered any loss on carroll’s part. They were daft and desperate enough to pay 36m, I’m sure there were a few sweeteners in there to make that immaterial !!

if he’s on 80k a week that’s 4m a year so I’m sure he was also given a good ”signing on” fee.
Remember when Duncan Ferguson tried to get a signing off fee from us as well despite being perpetually injured !!
That’s the trouble I think people like Smith, lovenkrands etc have at least another year on their contracts at the end of this season so thhhhey’ll just sit on them instead of freeing up much needed funds.

Comment #64carlton nufc, about 50p. So well worth keeping him till his price rises. I wish people would stop saying how many games he’s had there his goal ratio looks a bit crappy. Wish people would look at his PL games and starts. That looks bloody decent.

Comment #71As we are reported to have bid £12million for Gameiro I had a look at him on you tube
He plays like a young Micheal Owen ..similar but without a lot of a young MO skills..he’s nearly there though
You can also get a wrong impression on you tube as there is a lot of vid’s made over a long period of time of him mostly being in the right place at the right time ..He does not have great feet Like a Scott Sellers etc ..thats one of the first things i look for in a young player.. Scuffs a lot of shots…He’s not bad but its hard to judge as the teams in the French league are not as hard as in the prem.. to play against..works hard, lots of pace, fairly direct and boring…might turn out slightly above average in the prem.
Not exactly a Nasri but he does some similar things ..

Comment #78@Online Guy:
Well, he is not fast as Owen was. But he got excellent trajectory and good timing when he is calling for the ball.
He is also cold blooder front of the goal. With several technical options. Sorry, i don’t know the words in english for: “balles piquées”, “plats du pied” or “feinte de frappe”.
I just can say he got many ways to put the ball in the net.
However, your right about the fact he have never played at top level, so we got hope about him, but nothing is sure.

There was an alert, but after extended test, nothing is wrong. He have been allowed to play equally for Marseille and the French national Team.
I suppose than in the future, all teams looking after him will ask him test of their own for financial guarantee, but there is nothing to fear.

Thankyou for your educated take on Gameiro
BTW “balles piquées”, equates to =
Stiched Ball’s!
Do You mean he has the balls in front of goal?. We say the nerve… or the bottle ..the bravery
I think he is a good finisher..clinical and direct
He Looks fast from what I see on yt.
You say not as quick as Owen ?
