Ivory Coast winger/striker Gervinho and PSV’s Jeremain Lens are two players who Newcastle certainly seem to be following, ready for the summer transfer window.
Cheikh M’Bengue – Newcastle interested in 22 year-old Toulouse left back
We watched Gervinho last Sunday play for Lille against Lyon on the TV, and he’s very fast down the wing and has an eye for goal.
Apparently one of his weaknesses is that he misses quite a few chances, but given he’s got 11 goals for Lille in around 25 appearances so far this season, at least the lad is getting into position to take the chances, and he’s just 23 years old and there’s room for improvement too.
Gervinho has just 18 months left on his contract at Lille, and Newcastle should be able to get the player for less than £10M hopefully, and talk of paying £15M for him, which Aston Villa were reported to be interested in doing earlier in the week, would hardly make him a good deal for the Magpies.
We have also been linked with 23 year-old Dutch winger Jeremain Lens, and according to our records the first interest shown in the player was last April.
The Amsterdam-born winger has great pace, which seems to be what Newcastle will be looking for in the summer, and that will add another dimension to the side.
The 23 year-old Dutchman seems like Gervinho, in that he can play as a striker or a winger, and the lad’s already been capped three times by the Netherlands, and currently is at the PSV club.
He’s is on a four year contract, and has scored 7 goals in 25 league appearances for PSV this season, and we’re not sure what the fee would be for Lens, but he does seem a similar player to Gervinho.
And the Sunday Sun is reporting that Newcastle are tracking a number of left-backs in case Enrique leaves the club in the summer, but it could be that Jose has already told Newcastle he will be leaving this summer, as their are persistent reports his agents are negotiating with AC Milan and Liverpool are also interested.
The Sunday Sun is saying this morning that Newcastle are tracking Toulouse left back Cheikh M’Bengue, and the youngster stands 6′ tall and is just 22 years old and has so far played 10 times for the France U21 side.
The Toulouse-born player has been with his hometown club Toulouse since he was just seven years old, and he’s come through the club’s ranks and has so far played 54 times for the Toulouse first team, with one goal.
M’Benque made his debut in September 2007 against Marseilles, at the age of 19, coming on as a substitute in the 2–1 victory.
This is the first time we have been linked with this player and he’s a hard tough tackling full back, and has already had a couple of suspensions because of his very tough tackling.
Sounds good to us.
