Nigerian Defender Unlikely To Replace Enrique At Newcastle

It may just be paper talk,  but there seems to be growing reports in the gossip press that it’s now almost certain that Jose Enrique will leave Newcastle in the summer for pastures anew.

Taye Taiwo – 25 year-old Nigerian left-back

If he leaves he will be the second big player to leave Newcastle within just six months, as local lad Andy Carroll decided he’s rather play for Liverpool than wear the famous number 9 shirt on Tyneside, and continue living his dream.

That somehow sounds contradictory now doesn’t it?

Jose said he would only renegotiate a contract on Tyneside when the club was safe, but since Newcastle have collected just one point form the last two home games and our next two games will not complete for another four weeks almost, it could be well into April before Newcastle reach the requisite 42 points or thereabouts,  for safety.

Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo is a free agent playing for Marseilles in the French first division, and was a Newcastle target way back when Bobby Robson was manager on Tyneside, and he will become a free agent in the summer after refusing to sign a new contract for the South of France club.

The 25 year-old 6′ defender, who usually plays left-back, has come out and said if he comes to England he will only sign for one of the big clubs in England, so that would seem to rule out Newcastle.

Taiwo is known for his powerful left-footed strikes, and he’s scored more than one thunderbolt goal in his career.

This is what the Lagos, Nigeria born player said yesterday:

“If I was to depart, then I would not join a small club. It will be Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal,”

“I am not scared by the level in England. I believe I have the right level to defend against Wayne Rooney.”

Liverpool are said to be interested in the player as one thing new manager Kenny Dalglish will need to do is to strengthen his defense, but Kenny has also been reported interested in signing Newcastle’s Enrique, but AC Milan seem to be the most interested club in the French U21 International.

Taiwo has played around 173 times for Marseilles with 16 goals and has represented Nigeria 40 times with 4 goals, and he is already used to European Football since he signed for Marseilles back in 2004.

It seems unlikely he would want to come to Newcastle – but what do you think?

Comments welcome.

I wish people would stop making predictions , they always backfire. Don’t tempt fate !!

As for Carroll going, if anyone offers you twice what you’re earning, you’re going to walk. It’s a no brainer.

Taiwo seems to have a high opinion of himself considering he is a distinctly average player…much better left backs in France we could look at like Benoit Tremoulinas, Cheikh Mbegue and especially Aly Cissokho

I don´t see why not! We are sitting in 9th position in one of the best leagues in the world, and one win can do alot to the standings. If we win against Stoke, not only will that be a good win but we´ll only need 3 points from our last 8 games and with the likes of Birmingham, Wolves, West Brom and Blackpool still to play it looks as though we could be safe with an away win against Stoke.

We were a big club struggling, not 4 short years ago…we are now a small club who can’t compete for proven players…….what a plan, what a man!
Liverpool were a big club struggling, not 4 short months ago…..maybe they have a better plan than ours?

He is playing for a french team, their players are always misquoted. That’s what he will say when a big club does not come calling for him!
Liverpool big club ha ha, not anymore.
