Newcastle Reported After Top French Midfielder

There is news today that both Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in Saint-Etienne defensive midfielder, 23 year-old  Blaise Matuidi.

Blaise Matuidi – an excellent defensive midfield player

With Alan Smith having suffered another injury to his ankle, which he first broke when at Manchester United, there must a a chance that the Tyneside club will try to offload Alan in the summer, and get his massive £3M a year wages off the books.

Alan’s five year contract runs out in 16 months time, so he would be available at a cut price deal, and his former club Leeds United may even take him back if they get promoted back to the Premier League.

So it’s not surprising to hear that Newcastle may be looking at some young defensive midfielder, and one player they have been linked with today is Blaise Matuidi.who has played 25 times for the France U21 side, and made his debut for the full France side last year.

Matuidi made his international debut in France’s 2–0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, when he came on as a substitute, and he also appeared in the game against Belarus.

Matuidi seems to have good leadership abilities, as he had been the captain of his club since 2009, and after reviewing this player’s career it seems he would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle, so we have to hope this report is true. 😀

It is also the first time Newcastle have been linked with the French International.

The Toulouse-born Matuidi  turns 24 next month  and is described as a very strong and ferocious tackler, and she tarted his career with Troys back in 2004. The 5’9″ tall player played 68 times for his first club with 4 goals, before moving to Saint-Etienne in 2007.

He has so far played a total of 141 times for the Saint Etienne club with 3 goals, and from what we can tell he looks a very good player indeed.

What do you think?

if nolan ends up at liverpool and we end up with this cdm then i would play a 4213 with barton the cam and jonas/possible signing and ben arfa on the wings, with a hopefully a strong striker who can score good headers and volleys in the middle.
then we would never fail to be an exciting team.

He looks good and would be available for a reasonable amount, Callejon also looks good but it´s Gervinho I want.

Don’t think we need two defensive midfield players in the same team and there’s only one Tiote.
We are crying out for a creative midfielder – Arteta anyone?
Fine if we can get him as backup but some guile in our team is drastically required, with, of course, a cracking striker. Just those two purchases would make one helluva difference.
One question off topic why am I getting a 403 Forbidden notice when I try to acess the blog via Newsnow?

    Creative midfielders ?
Ireland & ben Arfa not do it for you ?
But agree we need depth in defence, coupla fullbacks and a CB.
There`s the present Honduran “Izaguerre”, making waves at Celtic.
The hard tackling youngster at Toulouse “M`Bengue” and “Taiwo”, all LB`s, who would easily plug any hole left by Enrique.
So that leaves a CB and a striker , as far as strikers go, appears this weeks flavor is the youngster at the Barcelona club Espanol, “Callejon”.
Dont know much about him, but there are quite a few good young strikers available and our own Best is doing a decent job of it !

I seem to have a big problem with Internet Explorer 8 – it will not load the site – it’s fine with Firefox and Chrome – am trying to get it fixed but no luck so far.
Doesn’t look too good at the moment.

he is one of the top Defensive mid field players round the world…i am sure if we buy him for 7 we can sell him for 27 for man city ..lol…but we still need a CB …why dont they bring Italian defenders they are way way way way way way better than English or Spanish defenders

People say ‘we’ve got Tiote’ etc, what happens if he’s injured? This season when he’s been out we have struggled. Buying someone like this makes our SQUAD stronger, so excellent buy imo if we get him.

Regard Ben Arfa as a winger and Ireland as a box to box scoring midfielder (well at least he used to be) but still feel we need a Wilshire/Elano/Nasri type of visionary player – somebody who can thread a pass through a packed defence and pull defenders around. Oh for another Pedro!

    wynsleap – totally agree!!

We have been missing that since, geez – can’t even remember. Even a Kranjcar or Modric type player would be perfect. Speaking of Kranjcar, class player who can’t get a look in at Spurs. He would definitely be on my radar

I doubt we’d go after a French International Defensive Midfielder to stick him on the bench so either Tiotes leaving or this ain’t true.

Not a footy thing but check out this funny video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL8uOqYo_00&feature=youtube_gdata_player
