Nigerian Defender Desperate For Move To Premier League

It seems that Nigerian left-back Taye Taiwo has been pleading with his club Marseilles to let him move in the summer, but only to a Premier League club.

Taye Taiwo – 25 year-old desperate for move to Premier League

Taiwo has been linked with a potential move to Newcastle United should Spanish U21 International elect to leave Tyneside for pastures anew in the summer.

Reports in the France Football magazine say the Nigerian international has already held talks with Marseilles officials and wants his club to reject offers from clubs in Italy and Spain.

Instead he wants them to only consider offers coming from clubs in the Premier League and those clubs could include Spurs and Newcastle.

We would have said that Spurs would have an advantage because they could offer European Champions League football next season, but that may not happen.

However, they should at least be able to get into the Europa League next season, and of course are now through to the last eight in this season’s European Champions League, after their magnificent wino over AC Milan, and they could go even further in that competition.

It says much of the Premier League strength when a team that finished 4th in the English League last season can get to the last 8 of Europe, but Spurs have played tremendous football in Europe this seaosn..

Come to think of it it’s a pity Harry didn’t sign up at Newcastle after Sam Allardyce was sacked just over three years ago.

Liverpool are also said to be a Premier League club interested in Taiwo, and the Merseyside club seem determined to bring in a new left back in the summer, with Newcastle’s Jose Enrique also said to be a potential target.

Taye Taiwo is a 25 year-old 6 ft tall Nigerian left back, who has now been at Marseilles since 2004, and has played over 180 times for the French club, and also over 40 times for Nigeria.

We think Newcastle will only be interested in a top class left-back in the summer, should Enrique leave the Tyneside club, and we hope that just doesn’t happen, and Jose will pledge his future to Newcastle by signing a new contract soon.

That’s what we are hoping for in any case.

Comments welcome.

Hope Enrique stays too, but he will be on his bike in the summer…Taiwo for me is after a big contract in England and would come for all the wrong reasons..anyway he is distinctly average and would be a poor replacement for The Bull.

Everyone goes on about the Jonas-Enrique partnership

Well if Jose leaves then how about the Ben Arfa-Taiwo partnership?

Turkish Magpie good call! Taiwo is one of the best left-backs in France and knows Ben Arfa from Marseille and that would be good, Alan of Braga will be out of contract in the summer and we should move for him. Kameni is alot better than Harper who I know has been waiting patiently for the no 1 but I´d rather have Kameni.

If Jose Enrique leaves, bring Taiwo. He knows Ben Arfa, and is a good left back.Good cross and powerful shot.

If Taiwo doesn’t come here, bring Van Aanholt. It’s young, could be loaned to us.

Seriously wouldn’t swap Enrique for any left back in the world. I rate him that highly and when you consider his age, who would you actually swap him for. Cole and Evra will be done in a couple of years time. However if he wants to leave then i suppose Taiwo would be a more than suitable replacement. How about that young spanish left back that we were supposed to be interested in?

“And those clubs could include…!?” quality reporting there ed. He may be desperate to come to the PL, but not that desperate to sign for nufc.

He has stated that he will only move from Marsielle if man u, liverpool, chelsea or arsenal come in for him. Now you could probably add city and Spurs to that list, but not Newcastle!

In my opinion, Enrique is at the most one of the best Leftbacks in the world, alongside Evra and A.Cole. For a leftback, Enrique is very tough and quick. I recall earlier in the season, Enrique outran Walcott when we played Arsenal. Enrique is also very good at wiping in crosses from the left flank. The only pity is that Enrique is not able to shoot well with his right foot whenever he cuts in.

The way Enrique is playing, whenever he runs up with the ball, he has the drive to want to create play.
