It seems that one of Newcastle’s striker targets in the summer, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, may also be interesting Liverpool.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel – 22 year old has goal every two games for Utrecht
The 22 year-old FC Utrecht striker has been linked with Newcastle since last summer, but it’s not known if he is a real target for Alan Pardew this summer.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew wants to bring in a number of players to reinforce the Newcastle squad this summer, and it seems like top players already at the club, like Joey Barton, Jose Enrique and Jonas Gutierrez want to see whether Newcastle are going to spend the £35M they got from the Andy Carroll sale, before they will commit to long term contracts on Tyneside.
Liverpool and former Newcastle manager Kenny Dalglish is said to have as much as £50M for summer transfer funds from the new American owners, New England Sports Ventures, and could be in for the Dutch striker.
The player’s representative has said this about the Newcastle and Liverpool interest, and the current state of the potential transfer of the Woudenberg-born player:
“I have not spoken to either club in the past three weeks. In the winter break both clubs told me they would follow him and keep an eye on him. In the next coming months we will see, so I will wait for contact.”.
“There is nothing in place yet regarding a transfer for Ricky. At this moment there is no update. He has returned to action and has scored a couple of times, and is coming back well from injury.”
” We are still working towards a move this summer but I have nothing finalized yet”
Van Wolfswinkel has only just returned from injury, and the Dutchman seems in great demand with Tottenham also said to be interested in signing the player, in addition to Newcastle and Liverpool.
The 6’1″ Dutchman is said to be the next Van Basten, and we wonder what transfer fee the youngster will command in the summer.
He started his career back in 2003 with Vitesse before joining Utrecht in 2009, when he signed a three year deal, which runs out a year come June.
Rick played 35 times for Vitesse with 8 goals and has so far played 66 times for Utrecht scoring an amazing 32 goals, and Newcastle were first interested in this player last summer, when Chris Hughton was still managing the Newcastle club.
Van Wolfswinkel was called up for the senior national team for a friendly against the Ukraine last August, and made his debut in that game for the full Dutch side.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1My opinion is, we won’t shell-out more than £10m on a single player, whether that’s enough to capture his signature, who knows?

Comment #2Nothing special from what I’ve seen, certainly lacks the pace that the club is apparently looking for.

Comment #3liverpool have enough strikers so i doubt he will end up there even with the dutch kuyt and dutch talking wannabe goalkeeper guy from uruguay. tottenham would be a big draw for him and i am sure he looks up to van de vart.
dont be surprised if arsenal bid for him but he would be a great signing although i am not sure about the van basten tag.

Comment #6That’s not him and it’s not amazing what so ever his goal scoring feats when you think of players like the guy that Middlesbrough bought alves ho had scored more goals than he had played and that was for heerenveen so not amazing although he is a good player can’t go off him scoring one in two goals in some half bit shot league that none of their teams can even get out of their champs groups and mclaren won a title there just shows how awful it is would still like to see him with us saying that as he is gifted but would need time to settle as he’s tiny and gets knocked off ball easily

Comment #7Not sure if he’s cut out for the prem or not, but a little part of me would like us to sign him, just so I can have a shirt printed with ‘Dicky Dogs C*ck’ and number 9 on it. That ought to upset wor lass and the kids.

Comment #17sorta off topic BUT, I’m sick of people saying that Joey Barton is waiting to see how Newcastle finish or weather Newcastle will spend the money. It’s BULLSHIT Joey said that he will stay but only if he gets 3 years. He got offered 2 years. He replied that he would take a massive pay cut just to stay at Newcastle for 3 years. So if Joey doesn’t get a new contract its all AP’s and MA’s fault not his.
jose on the other hand well thats just a sign of a great player for us who just wants to leave…

Comment #23People who put Gervinho up front on his own make me sick. He’s a winger/poacher not a taget man!! I said this before! Fantasy world people. Also bendtner? Please I’d rather have mike ashley playing upfront. Clearly no one watches champions league football here!

Carroll didn’t even score against Brucey’s Wigan that season. He scored away at Stoke and Man City and home to West Ham. He’s talking absolute rubbish, the sad mackem *******.

Comment #26Snubs, I agree. For all intents and purposes, Gervinho is a right winger, who would chip-in with a clutch of goals.
Crucial for next season, is where to play Ben Arfa, how best to showcase his panache and trickery. There are few players like him in the whole world, players who can run with the ball at speed, but also seemingly keep it stuck to their foot, unplayable!
Does anybody know anything about Wolfswinkel, his style of play? I mean, is he closer to a V.Persie or a Kuyt?

Comment #27Mike ashley would not spend up to 9m for one player
2.how do you get rid of alan smith and xisco when other teams know perfectly that they aint good?
3.ricky rubbish isnt coming here as we all know the bitter truth even grevinhio tooo if the fee is ridiculous.
4.try to be realistic with free transfers bcos that is our highest priority

Comment #31Toon Andy. I watched the Man Utd game aswell and i thought that taiwo looked pretty good, he got his head on everything made some good challenges, looked strong and whipped a few good crosses in. You also have to consider he was playing against one of the best wingers in Europe right now. Im not saying hes better than Enrique but if the bull were to leave i think taiwo would be a good replacement. Especially on a free.

Comment #32I agree myself to play gervinho on the wings ahead of a striking role but i beleive there is better than him to be played on the wings for us.
As for bendnter and champions league… well the last time i checked we werent playing champions league football
To compare his champions league performances and how he will be used for us is completely different

Comment #33Agree didn’t really rate Taiwo but he did alright against Nani so I wouldn’t be disappointed if we signed him.
I expect to sign 4-5 players
A LB is a cert Taiwo, M’Bengue have been mentioned, would be happy if we signed Van Aanholt.
A striker, Gervinho isn’t an out and out striker but would certainly add quality and depth to our squad. So expect there is some truth in the rumours we’re tracking the likes of Sow, Wolfswinkel and Wickham.
Wide men Puncheon is a probable target reasonably priced too add in Gervinho that could be them.
Outs, really have to be realistic we can’t get rid of huge numbers
Enrique not that I want him to would try and offer him one last deal
Campbell
Lovenkrands
Smith

Comment #36AMINI is probably the biggest talent in australia at the moment….i cant say if hes going to be good in the future (hes only 17) cause the a-league is so pathetic slow and full of crab players (even michael bridges is a star palyer here).
but the good news is that we have invited him for a trial so the scouts are doing their job….

Comment #37He’s a decent player but theres no way Ashley would spend money on a player like him, Pardew will have about £10m to spend on players the rest will be loan signings and free transfers.

Comment #38It’s very lazy to suggest that he’s average just because he’s in the Dutch league.
No-one here can claim to have watched him week-in, week-out, whereas I imagine Graham Carr has had him scouted frequently.
I know very little about the lad, but I’m happy to go along with it if Carr recommends him. I trust his judgement.
Plus, and let’s be honest here, he has played at a far higher level (the Europa League) than Connor Whickham, who attracts a ridiculous amount of excitement on this forum in spite of his lack of top flight experience.
I like Whickham, but the guy is just as unproven as Van Wolfswinkel.

Comment #40I’d have to play a 4 2 3 1 (like man city sometimes). Simmo collo taylor/williamson (replacement left back) gosling/nolan tiote as central defense mid.. Lens and gervinho both wings with ben arfa central attacking mid and best upfront! This is alternative if barton enrique and jonas go.
