Leon Best Deserves Great Credit For What He’s Done This Year

You’ve got to give 24 year-old Leon Best credit for doing so well so far this year, after being given his big chance at Newcastle by new manager Alan Pardew.

Leon Best – I’ve just scored another goal!!

Leon has scored 6 goals already this year, and he is quickly becoming a favorite with the Newcastle fans, as he continues to score goals, and is doing more than a decent job of  standing in for local lad Andy Carroll, who departed for pastures anew on 31st January.

The story is that when Alan Pardew first arrived, Leon kept meeting with Alan and asking for his chance, but at that time, last December, he didn’t have one goal or even one assist for the first team.

Now Alan Pardew is probably right to say that Leon can push on at Newcastle and now have a real career on Tyneside, and Leon has rightly been recalled to the full Ireland squad by Italian manager Giovanni Trapattoni.

This is what Alan Pardew told the Evening Chronicle today about Leon:

“When I arrived, I don’t think Leon Best was that highly regarded, and now he’s one of our only internationals.”

“Fair play to him, he’s earned the call with Ireland.” “He’s got six goals, and deserves his call.”

“He’s taken his chance well, and I hope there are more goals to come from him.”

Kevin Nolan stepped up to the plate for Leon in early January, when he explained that Leon was not only a good lad and a good player, but he had also worked his socks off at Newcastle, to try to overcome his many injuries since he arrived on Tyneside from Coventry City.

And we think th captain’s words helped with the Newcastle fans.

And then of course in Leon’s first Premier League start ever, at St. James’ Park,  he exploded with a great hat-trick in the 5-0 win, and  introduced himself in great style to the Newcastle fans.

Since then we’ve been surprised at how good Leon has looked, and he took a great opportunist goal against Arsenal and scored another perfectly good goal in that that was wrongly disallowed for offside. We should have won it 5-4!

And just how well Leon can perform through the end of the season with his goal-scoring exploits, will in large part decide how well Newcastle do in the important 9 game run-in through the end of the season.

Keep it up Leon, you’ve done just great so far this year.

😀

Fair play to him, but i really do think if (when) we stay up, it’s time to move him out and get some real quality up top.

I just see him as lower prem quality. A great player for any newly promoted or championship title hunting club.

A great lad, he’s playing well and has a good spirit. He’s just not good enough for where i’d like to see us going next season.

i’m starting to think – flash harry – has got the cron/journal & the local radio stations on speed dial & calls them everyday without fail! – fat ash will soon put a stop to it when he has a gander at his mobile bills.

tbh – i think he just loves the sound of his own voice.

Not one to jump on the band wagon but to be fair to Best he’s scored my than Albert Luque, Xisco, Andreas Andersson and Stéphane Guivarc’h put together.

If he manages to bag another couple he’ll be able to add Daniel Cordone, Silvo Maric and Jon Dahl Tomasson to that hit list…

God we’ve signed some sh1t3 over the years!
