Pardew – I’m Keeping An Eye On Jason Puncheon

We had a report out yesterday that Newcastle were interested in Southampton winger Jason Puncheon, who is currently on loan at Blackpool.

Jason Puncheon – doing well at Blackpool

With Jason doing very well at Blackpool,  it’s hardly surprising that Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is keen to sign the lad permanently in the summer, and it could be the Seasiders have a step up on the Tyneside club.

But Alan Pardew signed Jason for Southampton from Plymouth Argyle, while he was on loan at the Milton Keynes Dons a year last January, so it could be that Alan has some persuasive powers with the young winger, especially now that Alan is at a big club like Newcastle.

Jason still has a couple of years to run on his contract at Southampton, and he would of course cost a transfer fee – but exactly how much we don’t know.

Pardew  talked about Jason today to the local Evening Chronicle:

“Jason was somebody I scooped from MK Dons for a really good price. He’s done extremely well and he’s a player I’ll keep an eye on.”

“Jason’s at Blackpool at the moment, and whether there’s an opportunity to come here will be determined by what he does at Blackpool.”

Jason was actually a Plymouth Argyle player when Alan signed him, although he was on loan at the time at MK Dons.

When we’ve watched the lad play for Blackpool this year, he’s looked more than a decent player with a good eye for goal, and in 3 appearances so far for Blackpool, he has a couple of good goals.

Somebody please tell me, Pardew didn’t just say that did he?

To all the people bleating on too, saying we have a small squad, “if we get rid of six, we need to replace those and add another six, to fill out the squad”, we don’t, but I cannot be bothered to prove it. You’re just thick.

The 35m needs to be spent on a replacement for Enrique (if he leaves), a right midfielder/winger with a good cross, creativity and pace/dribbling, two strikers – a Carroll replacement and someone with pace, another center back/versatile defender and finally maybe cover for Tiote.

These signings should be combined with bringing in youth as well.

Erm selling a player who has a England cap and was our leading top scorer for £35 mill and now being linked with playing who COULDNT even cut it at Plymouth and Southampton 🙁 doesnt look promising.

BTW Atletico Madrid are on verge of signing Turan for 12 Mill Euros, heard many people menthion him in players they want us to get.

I feel sorry for our scouts most managers have a clue on who they should buy, but Pardew is just looking in the league below and to clubs he was at or affiliated with like Southampton, MK etc.

Our scouts need to find players quick to stop Pardew from buying some crap.

I believe it was reported we had a bid of £9m for Turan rejected, prior to Euro ’08. He’s exactly the quality of player, that would have Enrique signing up in a jiffy. Worth perhaps double the €12m mentioned, but is in the same contractual boat as Jose.

I read an article about him too, the subject being, how he’s a great role-model, and attends all the Galatasary acadamy matches that don’t coincide with his own.

Call yourselves supporters. This is really P..ing me off. It doesn’t seem to matter what anyone at the club does it’s wrong with you guys. I don’t know why Pardew says anything at all as it’s always twisted around to mean something negative. No one has said that looking at Puncheon means he is not looking further afield and I believe that in a few months time he will prove it. Why don’t you back off for a while. Your negativity isn’t needed as it has a nasty habit of getting back to the players. OK ~I know you say that these blogs are for opinions to be aired but the same tune is really getting boring. What is it about “Empty vessels ……..”?

Completely off topic, but i have a little newcastle quiz question for you:

Stephen Ireland moved from Man C – Villa – Newcastle.
Who is the only person to do this move in reverse order, Newcastle – Villa – Man C?

The positive is that we’re monitoring a player who will only cost 500k and has looked good in the PL so far. And it’s obvious there will be bigger targets in our sights. Lets judge our signings when we’ve got them and they’ve at least played a game.

Guys, do you really think that we’d have Carr travelling all over Europe if this kid was the height of our ambition?

For those of you who think the squad needs 5000 more players, atleast 2500 of them are going to have to be lads on free’s or the cheap.

Chill out.. We’re not Chelski… We can’t afford to have players like Zirkov and The Drog warming our bench…

Im with Ballerfan on this one like! It doesnt say at the top of the article that Newcastle are ONLY interested in Puncheon, this is just one that theyre watching. I personally dont feel he needs to chill out on this. Theres nowt worse than coming on here and seeing that Ed has put a story on and people are just ranting about how shit the manager and MA and DL are….. its boring, irritating and pointless.

We all wanna voice our opinions but when its constant negativity it gets my goat and apparently other sensible like minded individuals.

I think the last few games have Kinda knocked my confidence in the current team but thats because we are threadbare. But I remain positive and hope for a win every game be it against Man U or Stoke….. I breath NUFC and cannot remove my anger for the stupid things it seems that ashley has done, but I ALWAYS remain positive ( apart from straight after hughton getting sacked, but who was then eh? :-))

Maybe other people could chill out rather than letting their blood boil every time a story is printed?

Puncheon is actually quite good and whoever said he couldn’t cut it at Plymouth and Southampton clearly has no idea. Plymouth were a Championship club strapped for cash so they sold him to Southampton who loaned him out because they have Chamberlin, Lallana, Guly and a handful of other wingers who Nigel Adkins has just brought in so he would be sitting on the bench half the time and they felt it wouldn’t be fair. Get your facts right

Have you guys ever heard of a bargain?

If like AP said, come the end of the season he looks like he might be good enough then he might sign him. He wouldnt cost more than £1m I assume.

If he does come good then we’ve got another quality bargain like Tiote, williamson etc and we still have alot of money to strengthen the team further.

Just because we have (hopefully) a big budget this summer doesnt mean we have to sign two £15m-£20m players that are top quality.

I’d much rather see the money going to getting as many good young players in as possible to replace the dead wood.

I’ve got trust in Graham Carr, I reckon he’s going to find a few gems on his scouting trips to france and germany.

Its you who have no idea he was Loaned out (NO BUY OPTION) to MK Plymouth didnt rate him and he didnt feature for them when they were in the championship. they didnt play him thats why he went down a division on loan. (he played for weeks 1 to 5 then was dropped and made a rare start in week 25 then they loaned him out.

They only sold him as they didnt want him back this was before the money started running out at the club

couldnt cut it for southampton? they loaned him out as they had too many players in that position and he was doing excellent for millwall in the division above southampton.
he’s also done excellent for blackpool when i’ve watched him and chipped in with a few goals.
some people are so pessimistic why would ashley be paying for scouts, etc to travel across to europe every other week if he’s not gonna buy anyone

Has Bentdner created a goal ive only usually seen him score goals like Best scores (tap ins) via foot or head.

and for over 10 Million he will cost he is NO WAY worth that, I want lesser known players who will simply work hard and HAVE ENOUGH strenght if they dont have this they will find it hard to adapt.

I have faith in our scouting system but less in Pardew i hope he doesnt give him 2 cents to people we should buy.

Puncheon looks like a decent player, weather I want to see him in a toon top is debatable. I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more of him first, but if Alan Carr’s dad reckons he’s alright, then he’s alright by me. However, if this is AP giving himself an ego massage to try and prove a point from his unfinished business at Southampton, then leave him in Blackpool or Southampton.

    @ Gorksino10

I watch southampton play week in week out and saw Puncheon feature for the majority of last season. He is a quality player but tends to fade towards the end of a game as he gets tired but his pace and crossing is good, I’d say same as Jonas (crossing on his right foot) but pace like Routledge. Would love to see him at the toon

Ok iv read this blog for a long time but never commented…..i feel now i have to add some opinion.

I dont get why we are talking about £35m for players and wages. what happened to money from
Milner, Given, Martins, Bassong, Duff, Owen (wages freed up).

There was talk of Veloso etc before we got relegated where has this money gone as we still received parachute payements so didnt lose out on to much money being relegated and got a lot by way of television rights as we were on the box a lot!

There should be a transfer kitty of £40m-£50m plus a spare £10m for wages……this is ob NEVER gona happen but i fail to see why. we need quality in just to avoid being in a relegation dog fight every year. we have a good spine to our team but are still far from competing for Europe and even if we did are squad would fall apart from being so over played!

We could’ve had Krancjar, Larsson & Elmander in January, which wouldn’t have broke the bank. We needed players, and got an injury crock on loan (astonishing signing that one) and a washed up OAP. Joke.

I suppose the flip side to this coin is that i may actually be relatively pleased with our dealings in the summer, not because we’ll bring in amazing players, but simply because my expectation are so low. I know not one NUFC fan who wants to see £20m signings etc, just some good players.

Those three i mentioned fit the bill for where we are right now, and quite simply we have such little ambition and the owners such little zeal or committment, that we couldn’t/wouldn’t go for them.

I really do worry that we could go down now. I see us getting beat off Stoke & Wolves, they’re the kind of games we lose. We were unbelievably dreadful against Everton, and the atmosphere is turning toxic again. These mysterious long term injurys to Barton and Jose Enrique are suspicious, JB particularly.

We’re paper thin right now. I’d take a 0-0 draw on Saturday right now. What was that about ambition lol.

Is this the level of ambition for new players we are going to show in the summer (was that a yes I heard in reply from the owner?). Just pathetic. Why don’t we troll the non-league teams while we are at it. Get serious in the summer Ashley. Re-sign Jose at a decent wage. Same for Barton. Look for a decent striker. Bring in a decent right winger. Add some depth to the squad. Act like an owner for a change.

    off topic

If Jose and Jonas go we could make round about 25-27 million so that would make roughly 60 million which means we could maybe get one big and good player with other players such as Lens and Gervinho.
Arda Turan is a great player and it could be possible to get him for 15 million.
Also a player to possibly replace Jose if he leaves could be Celtics Emilio Izaguirre who is very much like Jose and if he does not leave he would still be a very good back up and we could swap him for Forster plus a few million
