Some surprisingly good news today is that Jose Enrique and Joey Barton are both fit, and start for Newcastle United today against Stoke City.
Newcastle Manager Alan Pardew has made 3 changes to the side which was beaten by Everton 2-1, a long and painful two weeks ago.
Jose Enrique surprisingly passed the fitness test on his hamstring injury today, and Pardew has put out a decent side to try to combat Stoke’s aggressive style of play.
Sol Campbell, whom Pardew said he was considering to combat the Stoke aerial assault, gets a start in a good looking Newcastle side.
Steven Taylor is back on the bench, and the front two are Peter Lovenkrands and Shola Ameobi, and no sign of Leon Best, who unfortunately picked up an injury in training on Thursday, so that’s bad news.
Young striker Nile Ranger is back on the bench along with Shane Ferguson and new striker Shefki Kuqi.
Jonas Gutierrez is also on the bench, and we’re not sure if he would be available to come on in the second half, if needed.
For Stoke City, Begovic returns in goal in place of Sorensen.
Newcastle could play in a 3-5-2 formation today, presumably with Coloccini playing a defensive midfield type of role in the middle 5, as he can play there.
You’ve got to think the lads have been practicing this set-up a lot over the last two weeks, if indeed they do start in that formation.
We need a win today!
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #471-5-3-2 is what venables called his xmas tree, it works fine with good adaptable players but can become a shambles if something goes wrong (which is why he abandoned it) so I hope the lads have had plenty of practice in the last two weeks. did pardwho ever work with venables in some cockney team and pick it up from him?

Comment #58Horrible tactic of Pardew. He give the game away to Stoke FFS. Bring in Ranger, put Lovendkrands on left side and keep that ball going fast along the ground!

its not about being a goal down, its about the manager playing our squad. his tactics suck and it isn’t going to help us further in the game.

Comment #63ameobi and lovens are looking very very poor. if they don’t start showing their quality i just can’t see us scoring this game. and losing 3 points today is going to be disastrous.

i agree. its the wrong sort of game to actually play ferguson. there could just be too much pressure on him. as a loss today will disaster for us.

Comment #71exactly. play a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3. do your usual stuff. play attacking football. no need to act ‘all omg i’m so pro i can change formations and shiz’
coz seriously. we don’t have players for a 3-5-2

it shows how much of a mistake ashley has made by not investing in depth in january. Ferguson is terrible right now. he’s too weak to be playing. and the results around us are not helping. we need atleast 1 point.

Comment #75We have to keep the faith in Ashley and Pardew. We have a great away record and have won 4 games at home. We have to play four rubbish teams at home and with a bit of luck we will be in Europe. I reckon Mike will spend at least 15 million in the summer and we should be challenging for a top 4 spot.
