Newcastle Interested In French International Winger

There is a report today that Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle are interested in Roma’s French International winger, Jeremy Menez.

Jeremy Menez – Roma’s French International winger

There could even be some truth in the report, because Menez seems to fit what Newcastle are looking for, a fast young winger, who can play in a number of forward positions.

Menez has not been playing regularly for Roma for the last month or so, but still has played 23 times  for the club this season,  with 3 goals.

It seems that the arrival of Vincenzo Montella in the January transfer window, has limited the 23 year-old’s chances at the Italian club, and he may want to move on in the summer to get more playing time elsewhere.

This is what the Frenchman told L’Equipe today:

“I am not closed to thinking about leaving. It’s because of certain choices and certain people.”

The Longjumeau-born player, started his career with Sochaux in 2004, before moving  to Monaco in 2006, for an undisclosed fee and on a four year contract.

Then in August of 2008, Menez moved to Roma, on a four year deal for a transfer fee of around £8M, and with further payments of £1.2M possible based on the player achieving certain goals.

He has appeared 97 times with 11 goals so far for the Italian club, played 62 times with 14 goals for Monaco and 62 times for Sochaux with 8 goals.

Jeremy has played for all the French Youth sides and so far has 3 full caps for the French side, and as you may have expected he played with a certain Hatem Ben Arfa for the French Youth sides.

The two Frenchman are around the same age, in fact Ben Arfa is just two months older,  and they came through the French Youth teams at the same time..

So Ben Arfa will know this lad, and may provide some insight to Newcastle as to what his strengths and weaknesses are.  And by the way Arsenal’s Sami Nasri and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema were also in those same French Youth squads.

Menez has a big reputation in France, but has not done well, for whatever reason, at the Roma club, but he was a star at both Sochaux and Monaco.  The player has great pace, and we’re sure that’s an element of play that manager Alan Pardew wants to have in the Newcastle side for next season.

Menez has 221 first class club games in his career with 33 goals and 25 assists, and in addition has about 56 games for the various French Youth sides with 27 goals.

Certainly this player seems to have an excellent pedigree, and would probably cost around £7M in the transfer market, which is certainly affordable to Newcastle.

What do you think?

Is it always spurs and liverpool now starting to hate those 2 teams. Also he is not a starter and he complained saying he was under last manager, he hinted he would leave and is getting fined cause of it, i reckon if they fine him he will push a move and this guy is amazing he and Arfa on the wings 😮

I think you’ll find Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle will always be linked with players in the summer, because they know these 3 clubs have money to spend – probably no other reason.

It must be lazy reporters who make all this roumors! Liverpool, spurs and us are after every single player togather!

He had a slow start in Roma. In the final mounths of last season he started to show what he is all about, but seems to have fallen behind this year again.

For 7M he would be a great buy in my opinion! Hope this is true!

No player is going to think about moving here until we are safe. This is all guff. Wor Ben is crosssing his fingers and so is the fat man gambling again with the club’s future by selling Carroll and replacing him with Koo Koo. Lonny Toons.

Fits all the criteria of our transfer policy, plays in a position we’re definitely going to strengthen and is having trouble at his current club – we’ll put it in the believable pile. 🙂

    What transfer policy is that?
Explain the last three? Ireland, Gosling and Ben. We signed Ben with a double fracture when he was still in plaster.
I get it. They have to be youngish (Ireland?) and crocked.

    Yeah suppose Ed.

True and tbh others would try to get him too like Inter or AC, teams that would beat us for his sig and tbh he is a good player but 7 Million seems alot for our board to spend but if its a choice between waste money on Ireland or invest it wisely in Menez id go for Menez any day, we need a quick winger with an eye for goal.

Forgot to include Koo Koo and the one before that was Big Sol. Old and crocked then?
    The transfer policy is simple.
We sell our best players for the best price we can get and we buy players for the least possible money as replacements and it does not matter if they are young, old or infirm. This policy can only lead in one direction.

More than likely he will want to go to the other teams they can offer more but no harm in trying, sound good. But if we dont buck up and start wining things or at least start building a team and staff ( that are football savvy) the are gonna want more ie Caroll and maybe Jose.

So are you saying you wouldnt have signed Ben Arfa because he was injured?

Yes him and gosling are injured atm, but they’re also both highly tipped midfielders.

I won’t mention Ireland because I’m not a big fan anyway.

Sol was brought in to primarily to give our defenders some of his experience, not to play regularly.

As for Kuqi, he was brought in to be 5th or 6th choice striker, just to make up the numbers incase all our strikers are suddenly injured.

I hate to be totally negative guys, but I think Ben Arfa will not be the same player upon his return.

Leg breaks always change a player – Cisse, Alan Smith, he will not be the same.

As much as I really want him to.

He’s young, pacey and shows a lot of promise. Although, I don’t think anyone will show the same team work as Jose and Jonas do down that left hand side, maybe bring in another Spanish speaker 😛

Out of all the players we’re being linked with, I see us signing none of them. I hate to say it but I can’t see Ashley giving us that £35 mil. Will probably be have to put into the club to “balance the clubs debt” (aka feed Cahleys pie habit)

menez is class wud b great signing.
my hopes for the summer are as follows
    players out:
campbell, kuqi, smith, perch, rtaylor, lovenkrands, routledge, xisco, shola n i think jose will leave

cant guess who will be brought in but they all have to be better than the players leaving,
players like menez, gervinho, marvuex, hooper, whickham, puncheon, jarvis, lens, n 3or 4 more tiote type signings

also wud like to the following get new deals forster, best, simpson, ferguson, airey, lualua, travernier, inman, newton, leadbitter n folan these are the most promising younster id like then like newton, leadbitter, airey, inman n folan n krul all to be sent on season long loans to either spl, cahmpionship or league 1,
forster to be new no 1 and ferguson, vukic, lualua n travernier n kadar to be first team squad members

campbell, kuqi, smith, perch, rtaylor, lovenkrands, routledge, xisco, shola

That list is a damning indictment of our great club. None of them should have got anywhere joining us, but then neither should JFK & Pardwho !!!! We must be cursed. £36m was very good for Carroll, but from Carroll to Kuqi, just about sums us up !!

I think we are at the stage the reality needs to hit home, we are involved in a situation that could worsen and involve us in a relegation fight.
Forget fantasy football transfers and focus on where we can get those very important points to maintain our premiership status.
I’m glad we have a break due to the internationals as that might give us time to have players fit to play.
We need to score a goal and win to stop the potential of a very bad run of form at a time when a slide down will be difficult to stop.
That win would ease pressure, but it is so tight from about 8th down to the bottom 3.
Ameobi, Best, Lovenkrands and Ranger not sure many goals in them, so the goal that could give us that seriously important next win could well come from set play.
So Howay the lads work hard and keep us up, life second time round in the Championship is something that I am not sure we could cope with.
Then my biggest hope is stay up and Mr Ashley make a positive statement either sell or give us a sign your in for the long haul and buy some of these players we hope will shine in the Black and White. So please prove your committed or put us out of our misery and sell.

Latest things from the toon camp ….. Jose will not be sold in the summer as long as at least 4 players come in with enough quality to push the team forward…… James rodriguez left footed winger forward only 19 very good prospect…. Next players followed are daniel carrico also in liga portuguesa centre back seen as another young prospect 22years old and lastly one we wont be suprised at is kevin gameiro big difference from him and carroll heightwise and physicality wise

James is an incredible player watched him alot at Banfield, wouldnt think Porto would sell him YET unless massive money came in for him. but he is versitle could play wing or striker.

I wouldnt be suprised if we look in Portugal i mean if we can turn over a bargain like David Luiz who joined Benfica from Vitoria for less than 800k there may be a bargain or 2 for us to get. but problem buying from the top 3 they buy low and sell HIGH it would cost us quite a big so i wouldnt think we would be looking at them maybe teams lower than Porto etc.

A Walter Mitty that used to come on here and tell us who was and wasn’t going to sign for us, and we would all be apologizing to him as he was correct, and we would be sorry, etc, etc. The way your post read Hainsey, was very reminiscent of him. I fully expected your next post to be a dummy spit, not unlike that kids. No offence mate.

davybtoon i’ve watched FF quite a lot this season (Celtic are my second team) and although this is a glimpse of what he can do he is still far from ready from being number 1 hear. Doesn’t command his box at all and his distribution is pretty poor. Just to show the down side of him search for rangers first goal in that game, ball bobbled along the floor and FF was far too slow to get down to it to save a shot he should’ve done. Got the makings of a good keeper but definitely not ready yet imo.

3 or 4 days after a bad defeat (and 4-0 to give stoke their record victory was a bad defeat) we seem to have calmed down a bit.
on reflection, providing we stay up (my only wish at the start of the season) then it will have been a success. but after a fair run my initial suspicion about pardew is confirmed – he is not up to the job, but how many have been other than KK & SBR?

have we cried for the sack of all the rest? yes
did it do any good? not often, usually made things worse
is there any point in it now?
well, I remember Ardiles, a lovely man, a world cup winner, I hated the calls for his blood. but then there was a dreadful night when I changed my mind. we were 3-0 up at home to southend (don’t remember? I’m not surprised, there were only about 11,000 of us at SJP on a wet & cold night – so much for the 50,000 who claim life-long support) then we went to pieces, disintegrating in front of our eyes 3-1 3-2 3-3 – and I watched Ardiles, he was lost, didn’t have an answer, couldn’t do anything. And we all knew his time was up.
0-4 to an average stoke side and the same signs are there, AP did’t know what was wrong and couldn’t influence his team. am I calling for the sack? no point – but the signs are there (we know it and the team knows it) and I don’t think they will go away
