Good News – Leon Best Returns From Ireland Squad

We had mentioned this morning that we didn’t want Leon Best playing in the European qualifying game on Saturday evening, in case he further damaged his ankle.

Leon Best – after scoring one of his 6 goals this year

And after traveling to Dublin to join the squad, so the Ireland medics could check out the injury – how’s that for trust – they have seen that Leon cannot play on Saturday night, and he has now returned to Newcastle for further treatment.   Let’s hope that the travel did not hamper the ankle.

So Leon has now officially been withdrawn from the Ireland squad, so he now has 10 days to get ready for what’s really important, and that is Newcastle’s next game at home to Wolves.

Ireland play Macedonia on Saturday evening in a European Champions qualifier, and then play Uruguay in a friendly three days later, and how many players after that will return injured to their clubs and not be available for the game the following Saturday is a good question.

It should give Leon some confidence that he is now reckoned to be the best striker at the club, and that he was missed last Saturday, when Newcastle couldn’t even get close to putting the ball into the back of the Stoke net.

Whether he likes it or not, Leon Best is now an important player for Newcastle through the end of this season, and if he can score a few more goals – he has 6 in 11 appearances for Newcastle  already this year  – he could become a hero on Tyneside.

Go for it Leon, you’ve done just great so far!!

Why the hell was he even sent to join the squad in the 1st place?

Just to check if he was actually injured? Pointless

Crazy that our season is relying players like Best just to scrape survival. Unfortunate that if we do stay up(and I really, really hope we do) then Ashley will consider it one of his masterstrokes again and use it as an excuse not to spend too much in the future.

On the plus side WHEN we stay up we’ll be in a great position financially to bring in some quality and in numbers.

I’m really hoping Ashley changes a habit of a lifetime and keeps his word. We’ll see.

I have to think when we stay up Mike Ashley will spend money on the squad. The reason i think this is because i dont believe a human being would be that stupid, could you imagine the up roar if he didnt spend money? It would be the final straw for alot of fans and me, empty stadium

ashley has made mistakes – but in what way has he not kept his word?
he employs “experts” to identify players to sign, some have been great, others rubbish, but I don’t remember him vetoing a signing
if we have failed to sign during transfer windows it would appear down to his expert staff, not him, for a variety of reasons which do not seem to attract much scrutiny because we are too busy blaming ashley
what exactly happened in the january window? did we target players and fail (if so why) – or did he turn down targeted players (no evidence) – or did we not find any players worth going for (if so why not)?
in other words, have we jumped to conclusion not based on facts?

Stuart, what gets me worried about Pardew saying that in his search for players, “no stone will be left unturned”. Does that mean he’s looking in Sunderland?

Im not sure GG, the question you have to ask yourself is does having 12 toes, 3 eyes and an extra arsecheek improve your footballing skills.

If so snap them up haha!

U get the feeling the animals would be smarter, better looking and better footballers than the mackem tw*ats as well.

Wey we’ve already took 3 points off liverpool this season and 1 off chelsea, of course AC scored in both of those though so bugger knows lol.

Doubt we’ll get anything from Man U, when they’re playing well this season they’re unbeatable.

Off topic I know but it’s still about the toon!

Is this true is the singing end really gone???!!!

In February 2011 it was announced by the club that the seating arrangement in SJP was to be changed in such a way that the Level Seven “singing section” at St.James’ Park was to be abolished and replaced with a extended family area. The club cited demand from families but various fan websites including nufc.com have stated this is related to the owner being unhappy that ‘FCB’ chants were emanating from that particular section of the stadium.

Geordie dan > betfred however it isnt that simple if you have bet on any football match with them this season and have the proof then they will more or less add a third on to their original odds….. This is only if your original bet lost though I think its running til the end of the season

As much as I would love to see NUFC sign Gervinho, I don’t think it will happen. Too many other clubs have been linked with the player, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich. I don’t see him choosing Newcastle over them.

i disagree i think weve a great a chance of signing gervinho and the main reason is tiote, what can liverpool offer that we cant they wont have european footie, and like graham carr said the reason were looking at the french n dutch leagues is because were a massive name over there and he said there players on the verge of champions league footie next year and they will giv that up in heartbeat to join newcastle and they can only kno that if theyve been talking already

Perhaps not Liverpool, but Bayern Munich (although atm outside of UCL spot should still get in), Athletico Madrid would also be appealing. Let’s not forget, they will all offer the player more money – you cannot deny that as being a motivator.
