The Newcastle scouts are out in force this weekend as they take in the Internationals, and check on some of Newcastle potential targets in the summer.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 20 year old Feyenoord winger/play-maker
And news today that Newcastle are taking a look at Feyenoord’s Georginio Wijnaldum.
The 20 year-old Netherlands U21 International can play on the right wing or as an attacking midfielder, and he is already highly regarded in the Netherlands.
Wijnaldum was born and raised in Rotterdam in South Holland, but moved to Amsterdam when he was just 6 years old, and joined the Feyenoord club back in 2007.
He has already played 123 times for the Dutch club with 19 goals and has played for all the Dutch Youth sides, including once at U21 level.
In April of 2007, Wijnaldum made his debut for Feyenoord in their Eredivisie home game against FC Groningen, at the young age of 16 and 148 days, and became the youngest player ever to play in the Feyenoord first team.
Interesting enough, he was also chosen as Feyenoord’s man of the match in that game.
As you would expect, some big clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Milan and Liverpool (plus Newcastle) are keeping an eye on the 20-year-old, but news today that Newcastle scouts have watched this player several times already, and may try to get the lad in the summer,
He would be one for the future, but the 5’8″ youngster is already an impressive play-maker for Feyenoord, and also has some terrific speed.
Georginio Wijnaldum looks like the type of young player Newcatsle should be signing in the summer, and it’s clear the Newcastle scouts are looking at lots of good players at the moment.
That’s in preparation for what could be a huge summer transfer season for the Magpies.
