Ireland Fit But Best And Enrique Both Doubtful

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is hoping that Stephen Ireland will make his debut on Saturday in the important game at home to Wolves.

Stephen Ireland – ready to make his debut on Saturday

And as far as we can tell Stephen hasn’t been injured in training this week, so that has to be good news.

With being out for so long with injury, players like Stephen are always prone to have annoying injuries that keep their time away from the game even longer.

But the bad news today is that Leon Best looks very doubtful for the game because of his ankle injury, which we thought had cleared up, but apparently not.

And Pardew will give Jose Enrique’s hamstring a chance to clear up before the game on Saturday, but we’d like to see Jose given a rest, so he can get his hamstring cleared up once and for all  – otherwise the injury will drag on and on.

Ireland came to Newcatsle with a knee injury in late January, but then the day before he was due to make his debut against Everton on March 5th, he picked up a thigh injury in training.

Alan Pardew talked about Leon,  Jose and Stephen today:

“They’ve all got a chance but we’ll see.”

Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi, Nike ranger and Shefki Kuqi are the strikers Newcastle have available, if Leon doesn’t make it,  but he’s still going to be a big miss again.

Newcastle missed Leon at Stoke two weeks ago and it’s really bad luck that it seems he will not be fit for Saturday, in what is shaping up to be a must win game.

We’re starting to wonder who will be able to score the goals to give Newcastle all 3 points on Saturday.

I can’t believe we’re in a situation that we have to rely on Best,Ameobi,Ranger and Lovenkrands to save our season in the EPL.How low can we go!!

If Ameobi and Loven are playing does Pardew looks at the scores they get? Loven has been the weakest player the last few weeks straight yet he still keeps playing upfront with Amoebi (Both) not scoring. I dont see why they dont put Ranger on now, cause once we have more good options by the summer it will be harder for Nile, and tbh even if Nile DOESNT score he does more workrate and is worth his inclusion over Strolla or Loven.

I suspect that our main goal threat will come from midfield with Barton, Nolan and Ireland all (hopefully) being fit.

We could give Ranger a chance, but I suspect he’ll come on as a sub for Ameobi; the main reason being that Ameobi has scored goals this season and Ranger hasn’t. I know he hasn’t had much time on the pitch and he always looks a threat when he comes on, but he generally comes on when everyone else is knackered, so that extra bit of pace counts for a lot more. Using him as an impact sub is, I think, good enough, for the time being.

goskino10 bet you werent saying that last season when he was scoring goals for us. i dont get some of our supporters us we should be behind our players not slagging them off. PL has got a fantastic footballing mind better than most he isnt selfish he can use both feet he knows how to do simple passes he is class and he stayed with us when we went down when other good clubs wanted him but he didnt think about leaving. so come on the toon

If there is no Best, start Shola up front with Nolan behind. Bring Ranger on at 60 minutes if needed. Unless NUFC build up a big lead, Wolves will battle from whistle to whistle. There can be no let down for a minute or two like at Stoke, or everyone will be looking at the scoreboard and wondering what happened..

With the exception of Best and Ranger who both have potential none of the others are Prem class. We desperately need two proven strikers.

I hope he plays Nile, I like him because he is commited to NUFC and he will score. Playing Ireland without even seeing him play in the reserves is a joke. I don’t think he’s fit enough, maybe last year or the year before he would have been able to walk into the team but not now. Send him back to Villa, a year in the Championship will do him all the good in the world.

Injury doubts Leon Best and Jose Enrique were able to take part, which suggests both players have a chance of playing on Saturday, while Cheik Tiote and Ryan Taylor also joined in despite being suspended for the big game.

Carroll gone and Best gets crocked – it’s always sod’s law at NUFC. They should know that’s how the Kuqi crumbles.
We’ve Shola, an injury-prone striker most fans have despaired of ever consistently delivering the goods, a ageing Dane we signed as an afterthought, and a talented kid who can’t haul himself out of the scratcher to train. And Kuqi.

Our best chance may be to get Llambias to streak across the pitch every week.

If players aren’t quite right then I wouldn’t risk them, rather have them fit for 7 games than play in 1 and miss 2 etc etc. Looking forward to seeing Ireland when fully fit, he’s a good player and capable of a goal or two too.

What will happen to all the grand plans for new faces and an attack on a top six spot next season.
Plus holding onto both Joey and Enrique if we dont survive the drop.
Gotta say, feels a lot like two seasons ago, where no one really expected relegation.
It`s scarey, because no one seems to understand what a crap side we are.

As long as Pardew doesn’t play Campbell at the back this week we will have a chance…so it’s a toss up between Saylor and Willo to partner Colo… i have a sneaky feeling Pardew will go with Saylor. As for the lack of decent striking options the solution is to play one up front with either Nolan or Ireland playing off the front man….that front man in my view should be Ranger.

If Ireland could capture the form of which we all know he is capable he will be a great acquisition for next season if we go for him.
He only has a few games to prove himself, however, so he’ll have to get on his bike!
Would also be tempted to give Airey a 15 minute run out near the end if things go well – we’ll not know how good he could be if we don’t give him a chance.
Some players can grasp a first team opportunity just like Shane Ferguson has tried to do this season.

If Jose doesn`t make it and Best does, whilst 3 at the back didn`t work against Stoke most of the problem was lack of mobility (ie: Sol) and awareness. I like the Barca set up as follows:
    ———————Harps
    —-Simps——–Saylor———Wills
    ———————Colo
    ———-Joey————-Ireland
    Jonas———–Nolan—————Ferguson
    ——————-Best
This would give us strengh in midfield which we need against Wolves and fluidity in Jonas/Fergs being able to get up and down as required, and Nolan supporting Best which is where he is most effective!!

It’s not that long ago Best was being slated now he’s our saviour . He has scored a few goals and probably will score a few more but come on he’s not that good. We have strong enough players like Nolan, Barton and Ireland (if he plays) to beat Wolves (they have lost their top scorer). As long as Ranger, Shola etc can cause a bit of a nuisance of themselves our midfield could win it for us. Who knows, Shola could save the day -he has done it before.

One part of the statement made yesterday by Lambias and Ashley was disturbing.

Can you imagine the owner of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea , Man Utd, Spurs even , coming out with this one….

“We want to finish tenth or above that.. each season ” !!!!!!!!!!! Pathetic !

NO Ambition other than that then ?

Like Iv been saying.. We have a wage cap , can’t and will not buy top players..Mediocrity rules.

Buy them cheap or get them free and sell your best players when they are at their best in a black and white shirt…we will never grow and will never win a thing with the current owners .

!10th ! each season and they will be Happy ! They said it ! so know you know .

    Some Ambition eh?

Agreed boonarmy…Fergie has earned the right to start on the left this week with Jonas moving over to the right leaving us with a strong looking central midfield. Agree with Wynsleap that Airey should take up his place on the bench and be given a chance in games between now and the end of the season. Surely it is better for the club and Airey’s development to be ahead of Kuqi and his creaking bones in the pecking order.

If Enrique, Jonas, Ireland & Best are fit wouldn’t mind seeing the following side:

    ————–Harper————
    Simpson—S Taylor—Colo–Enrique
    Barton—-Ireland—Nolan—Jonas
    ——–Best——Ranger

Think that should be good enough to beat Wolves.
