Craig Bellamy Too Old For Newcastle

There’s a rumor circulating today that Newcastle may want to buy Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy in the summer.

Craig Bellamy – wanted by Newcastle in the summer?

Craig is on loan this season at his home town club Cardiff City, but is very likely to be unloaded in the summer, as the Eastlands club try to reduce their enormous wage bill, before the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules are introduced this summer.

It’s a rumor, and probably a made-up rumor, but why on earth would Newcastle want to spend £7M (estimate) on a player who turns 32 in July, and was hard to handle,  even by Bobby Robson, when he was at Newcastle.

As far as we can tell, his behavior both on and off the field, has hardly improved much since Graeme Souness couldn’t stand his antics any more,  and moved him out on loan in January of 2005 to Celtic, a short four months after Souness took over the Tyneside club.

Alan Pardew has said today that his direction is to bring in young players, so why bring Craig Bellamy back to Tyneside?

Young players of around 26 years old or younger, would be Newcastle targets, unless they are free agents presumably, and can be brought in for nothing, at least as  far as the transfer fee is concerned.

£7M for a 32 year-old cannot be good business, surely.

Although Craig was a handful on Tyneside, he always produced on the field of play, to be fair to him, and as far as Bobby Robson was concerned, he was worth the problems he gave the Newcastle manager.

Bobby said he was one of the most difficult players he ever had to handle in his management career  – and that’s saying something.

Bobby once called Craig – the only player who could start an argument in an empty room – but Craig did have a good playing record on Tyneside, and played well alongside the mercurial Alan Shearer, when Newcastle were in the Champions League, under Bobby Robson.

But Craig Bellamy is part of Newcastle’s past – and hardly part of the future of the Tyneside club, at 32 years of age some July.

But that’s only my opinion on this –  what do you think of this rumor?

    “Bellamyyyyyyyy! It’s iiiiiiin!!!”

But no, him and barton in the same team? No thanks

If we’re going to sign a 32 year-old, Klose for free? Stick £10m in for Sturridge and V.Aanholt from Chelski too!

Far to old now and would rock the boat to much,
The players I would love to see us sign would be Shane long or Nicky maynard (or both)
plus a good big centre forward to replace Carrol

First Post: van Wolfswinkel is a good player but there are better in the Dutch League:

Leonardo from NAC-Breda: Roy Berends from SC-Herenveen: Theo Jansen from FC Twente.
    Peter Wisgerhof from FC Twente.

As for Bellamy, reports here say that FC Feyenoord Rotterdam would like to sign him.

He would probably demand a huge salary which is now not an option is just too old to fit in at Newcastle. I can still remember trying to knock out Kieren Dyer a few years back.

So i say no to Mr Bellamy!

To anybody who thinks Forster could cut it in the EPL – you’re wrong.

    1. He can’t communicate. Remember the season we went down and Harper stepped up? He didn’t talk to the defenders the way Shay did and therefore we were punished by silly goals.
    2. He pulls off some amazing saves now and then, but struggles on the simple ones.
    3. In a 1v1 situation, he almost always loses out.
    4. He can not get down. I can’t stress that enough. A low, mid powered shot is his nemesis and again, will let nearly every one of them in (see Rangers vs. Celtic).

If Celtic want him, they can have him. Good young player but he has a hell of a lot to learn. Krul over Forster any day.

we don’t need taarbat if we get gerviniho or lens, we have jonas and fergie, also Richardson should be given a chance and also lua lua. Don’t waste money on taarbat i don’t think he will fit in our squad with personalities of Barton, Ben Arfa and so on. Team spirit is very good don’t mess it up.

Thump i could not agree more with you regarding Forster. Saying that he still has time on his side as he is a keeper and for whatever reason the take longer to develop. Not too sure whether Krul is up to it yet as he has the communication problem also. It will be very interesting to see who is number 1 next year

I would swap Smith and Xisco for Bellamy but not for that kind of money!! He’s too old anyway but I loved the way he played for us. He always gave his all for us. But I can’t forget that magical goal against Feyernoord and his stupid head butt in the first 5 minutes against Inter leaving us the whole match with 10 men! What a wa*ker but what a great player too. We could really use his pace in the team these days.

Oh and regarding Bellamy I loved him during his time here. My favourite player while he was here, bit too old but for less than 4 million i would love him back. I reckon he’ll probably end up back at Cardiff though as he says he loves it there due to how close his family are

Forster definitely has time to develop, but can we offer him that time?

Krul is definitely the better keeper out of the two as it stands and is rightfully playing at a good level. His communication is a bit off, but still better than Forster’s imo.

I also think that Harper will remain number 1, with him either retiring or playing second fiddle again for his final season.

If we sell Forster, I reckon we should go for Huddersfield’s Alex Smithies. The few times I’ve seen him play he’s been a rock and my mates who live in and around the Huddersfield area swear he’s the dogs dangly bits.

The only problem with that is can he play at the top level, I know FF hasn’t really yet but from watching that young Arsenal keeper, Scezny? he was meant to have been absolute quality last year with Brentford, in the same league and ofcourse FF looked quality in that league last year with Norwich. I agree that Krul is the better allround keeper at the moment and if he could improve his communication he will be a top keeper for us

Only get the Craig to my Bellamy if hes cheap, Taraabt I agree with the earlier bloke he wouldn’t fit in and we have a better version in benny also he never passes just tries to do it all himself and against top defenders he will get shafted.
Elamnder youve got to be kidding, since he scored against us nearly 3 months ago hes scored one
