Copenhagen left-back Oscar Wendt will be in a free agent this summer, and both Liverpool and Newcastle are said to be in talks with the player.
Oscar Wendt – Swedish International left back
Alan Pardew said that he was in talks with two free agents just last week, so perhaps this 25 year-old Swedish International left-back is one of them.
There are lots of rumors going around at the moment that Jose Enrique is going to leave Newcastle in the summer, and if that’s true, the Magpies will need to bring in an experienced left-back, to replace the Spanish U21 player.
The news is that while other clubs are after the Copenhagen left-back, Newcastle and Liverpool are said to be the clubs that have already talked with the player. QPR and Sporting Club of Lisbon are also said to be interested in the player.
Wendt has talked to the Swedish paper Sportbladet:
“Sporting Lisbon are one of the clubs we are talking to, then we have decided to not name the others”.
“But my agent has serious talks with them. Nothing is decided, but I am not stressed about it. I want to find a club which feels right”.
Since Liverpool are one of the clubs said to be interested in signing Newcastle’s Jose Enrique, then if that deal happened in the summer, that would seem to leave the way open for Newcastle to sign Wendt as a replacement.
Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Taye Taiwo of Marseilles, and the 25 year-old Nigerian International left-back is also available as a free transfer in the summer.
The 25 year-old Wendt started his career back in 2003 at IFK Göteborg and played there 91 times with 4 goals, before moving to Copenhagen in 2006.
Oscar, who stands just under 6′ tall, has played 80 times for FC Copenhagen, and has represented Sweden 14 times so far, and also played for the Swedish U21 14 times.
