It seems that Newcastle’s young left-back really enjoyed his first Premier League start for the Newcastle club on Saturday.
Shane Ferguson – another excellent display on Saturday
Shane Ferguson only lasted 52 minutes against Wolves, and we have to hope his calf injury is not too bad, but we’d also expect the rested Jose Enrique to be finally fit again for the tough game at Aston Villa next Saturday.
Alan Pardew seemed to be simply delighted with the 19 year-old’s performance after the game, and said he thought Shane was “brilliant in everything he did”, as the Irishman gave another excellent display, following his Man of the Match display two weeks ago at Stoke City.
Shane was himself delighted with the game, and of course the great result as he said this today:
“It was a brilliant result, and to get my first Premier League start was an extra bonus,”
“I thought before the match, they’d probably target me because of my size, but I thought I handled it all right, and Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini helped me as well.”
“All the lads were so happy. It was just a great atmosphere. There was no one who slacked, and everyone carried each other through. It was a great experience.”
“They came into the game in good form, and we knew they would come out of the blocks fast.” “We handled it really well, and it was a brilliant result in the end.”
Newcastle fans knew all about Shane Ferguson, from his excellent displays in the Carling Cup earlier this season.
And we understand the lad’s been just as impressive in training, so it’s hardly a surprise that he has now done so well since being given his chance.
And maybe some of the other top Newcastle youngsters should be given a run-out before the end of the season, once the side is safe of course.
Shane talked about his own rapid rise to mini-stardom over the last few weeks:
“It’s happened so fast. I’m so thankful for it, as well. I’m thankful to the manager for giving me a chance to show him what I can do.”
“There are no better fans than Newcastle fans, I’ll tell you that now. They’re really nice people too, and they were brilliant. They got behind the lads, and helped us.”
“It’s looking good at the minute,” “We just have to keep our heads, and hopefully keep pushing on now until the end of the season.”
Alan Pardew asked for the support of the Newcastle fans for the critical match on Saturday – and he got the response he asked for from almost 50,000 who were in attendance, and once again the Newcastle faithful roared their team on.
It’s true there is still some unhappiness with fans surrounding owner Mike Ashley, but there also seem to be some very definite signs that Newcastle are becoming financially strong, and the Newcastle club is now on their way back.
Newcastle could also have a much better side next season, with some good buys made this summer, with some of the Andy Carroll windfall, it certainly promises to be an exciting time for Newcastle fans, that’s for sure.
But when you also have youngsters like Shane Ferguson, Nile Ranger and James Tavernier, who was also on the bench on Saturday after returning from his loan at Gateshead, and that’s to name just three of our promising young players at the club, then things at Newcastle are starting to look bright again.
Howay The Lads!!
