Maverick Gutierrez Scores And Also Looks After Young Ferguson

It seems that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is a big admirer of Argentine International  Jonas Gutierrez.

Jonas – goes on his run after scoring great goal

Newcastle fans have often questioned his final ball into the box, at the end of a good run, Pardew seems to admire Jonas’ non-stop running and high work-rate, and of course the Argentine scored the goal of the game on Saturday with a beautiful goal in the third minute of injury time.

That put the icing on the cake for Newcastle, and Jonas ran to the touchline  and was hugged by Finnish International Shefki Kuqi, who seemed simply delighted with things.

But give credit to Steven Taylor who had just come on, and ran half the length of the field at high speed,  before giving the ball to Jonas.

Jonas then continued down the left wing, and then cut in and put a beautiful serving shot with his right foot, well past goalkeeper Hennessey.

A great goal indeed.

Pardew spoke to the local Newcastle press this morning and had this to say about Jonas, who has become a big favorite on Tyneside, over the last three seasons:

“He’s a real character, Jonas,” “He’s a maverick.”

“Sometimes he does things that drive me mad on the training ground, but not on match day.”

“He does the right things on a match day, and it was an outstanding performance.”

“He put great cover on Ferguson – looked after him and talked to him – and capped it all off with a great goal.”

Jonas had an excellent game, and apparently gave great support to young Shane Ferguson, in at left-back again for the hamstrung Jose Enrique.

Shane again showed what a great player he could become in a year or two, and he’s already good right now!

It was just a terrific day for Newcastle fans on Saturday, and we need more of those before the end of the season. 😀

Comments welcome.

what a great performance from my favorite player. People have ctizized Jonas final ball in the box but he is vastly improved and easily has been an irreplaceable part of our team. We need to lock him down long term along with jose, king kev, and barton…..

Jonas is still hit and miss alot with his final ball, but he can produce quality….both goals vs Birmingham were from his crosses. He certainly has got better over the past two years with his final ball.

And with Ferguson, he will become a very good footballer. Could tell the difference between him and Perch, when perch has the ball he was either looking to get rid of it or look for the easy offload.

However Ferguson would always look how the team could advance, not just play it safe for him and just make sure he doesnt make an error. Very good signs for a young player.

Jonas is a great player, you don’t get into the Argentina squad if you aint capable of playing a bit. Yes, sometimes his crossing is a bit hit and miss, but even with that flaw, his runs terrify full backs, and when he does become good, he is really, really good. Great to see him on the scoresheet this week, even if he left the mask duties to Shola.

Everything about him is a little quirky, but I love that about him, great character. From the few interviews and when you watch him in the warm-ups, he seems to have a fun sense of humour, fits right in. 😀

i have to give jonas credit you’ll not get another player who runs as much as he does, and i think the reason his end product not great is because he’s playing LW and his left foot not good but we seen what is right like at the weekend. hope he stays

I was wondering who he was hugging after the goal, thought it might of been Enrique but Kuqi? That guy seems to be a nice bloke and even if he hasnt played its been good having him around i think.
And glad to see some credit for Taylor, he went of and celebrated like he’d scored afterwards!
Things look good for Ferguson, i’m more excited by his potential than Ranger, both of them could become great for us the next few years.

Jonas has definately improved we are a much better side with him in it. He also seems a nice guy. He was one of the players who stayed after after the signing session pre-season and didn’t leave till everyone had a photo or autograph.

Jonas is already a legend in my eyes he has put in a great shift for us and has made his price tag worth while unlike the mistakes e.g Owen!!

Ferguson can teach Jonas how to cross and Jonas can teach Ferguson how to be a professional as you never hear in the papers “Jonas caught in a brothel etc etc, unlike the thug that is Rooney”…

I remember reading some people blogging we should sell Jonas! I have 1 question… Are you mad??

    up the toon 🙂

Jonas is a legend and the best winger at NUFC since Bobby Mitchell. I would not swap him for Messi or that little cheat the mancs sold to Madrid. Easily one of the best forwards in the world who puts Gillespie and Ginola to shame. Come on you Argie!!!

With Best and Stroller and Jonas, the Toon is heading in one direction. A few more astute buys by Mr Ashley will see us challenging for the title in a couple of years. We will get into Europe this season with a bit of luck and then the sky is the limit. Come on the Toon, knock those Mancs off their perch.

Routledge scores 2 goals should of got a Hat Trick in QPRS 3-0 win.

He has a big problem, he just loves being a big fish in a small pond mentallity cannot cut it at the big boys but he has already 5 goals and for a winger thats pretty good, shame he has this problem.

Why am I delusional. Wit a bit more luck on the injury front and a few less abysmal referee decisions, we should be 7th right now!!!! We can improve the squad and with all the money Me ashley has saved in the last three years for purchases, why can’t we improve a few more places???? We need a better goale, a better right back, we have got Wor Ben coming back as the creative genius, we have the best holding defender in the world in Tiote, lets not forget the boxer and the so underrated No No. Christ man, we have the makings of a great team. Look at the scoring record of Best. Would you swap him for Rooney??? I will concede that we could do with a better goalscorer than the Walker Stalker, but four shrewd buys would transform us into a top 4 team. I am looking forward to Champions League football in two years and who knows what might develop. I have my concerns about the manager though. He is the problem.

Spot on gorskino10 regarding Routledge…i have a feeling QPR won’t take up the option to buy him because like you say he doesn’t have the mentality to cut it at the highest level….but he is one of the best performers at championship level…Journeyman?

Davybtoon I think you might be right if he was to run at defenders in the box a bit more then we might get some penalties as he is very hard to stop when he gets on one of his runs.

    Totally agree with Routledges mentality.

I know a few fans from other teams and they said he worried them everytime he got the ball when he played them.

But he was either in the team or first sub on to change the game and he leaves to QPR instead of fighting for his place. So just think he likes to be banging in the goals…he’s too good for the championship and he would have definately got a fair few games for us.

I think the reason Enrique improve this last 2 seasons is because Jonas support him both defending and attacking. I know most ppl complain of his lack of end product but he is a hard working player

I agreed with Routledge, even if he join QPR permanently and play at the Premierleague, he will never get past any defenders

I’m fairly new on this blog. No idea if Jimily is being sarcastic or not, BUT…

If its a choice between believing in what he has written, or the alternative opposite view of some posters on here that the sky is falling in, constant doom & gloom, relegation, selling all our stars etc… which is equally as extreme, I know I will be going with his view. Its all perception and some people are only happy when its raining.

A lot of the negative posters on here can’t see that their nightmare toon scenario view is equally as out there as Jimily’s challenging for the title in 2 years. I have a sneaky suspicion that this is exactly what his posts are trying to highlight.

The truth will no doubt be somewhere inbetween the two stand points but where is the harm in a little dreaming eh.. you doom merchants should try it…

I am glad so many here are so close to the team they understand Rouledge’s mentality and that he can cut it only in the Ch. AP, admit your stupid mistake (criticising 1 of your players publicly, totally erroneous assessment) and beg him to come back.

Well said alienhunter i agree and in hindsight we are only 3 wins from being in a European position and this is with a squad everyone seems to slag off. If we get two guaranteed goal scorers
for next season and a little more strength on the subs bench we can easily fit into the top eight and fight for europa league. HBA is going to be huge for us and with Vucic/Lua Lua/Gosling/Kadar/Forster/Ferguson coming through I am very optimistic about the future.

Jonas did play amazing it seems to keep the ball with ease and nobody can get the ball off him and if they do 95% of the time it will end with us getting a free-kick. if he can polish up his final ball. everyone can see how class he could be if he can be a complete footballer. the only other player i have seen that can get past people like he does is Giggs and if he can sort the final ball out then he will be like him
